Thanks...I kinda figured that was the case...I would love to have gone on the monorail but we will be staying offsite when we go in May. Thanks for the quick response.
In fact, if you are staying offsite, I believe the only way to get to MK is to ride the monorail, which you take after parking your car and taking the tram.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
From my recollection you would not need a ticket to ride the monorail. You could catch the monorail to MK from the Transportation and Ticket Center. Get off at the MK entrance and either ride the monorail to the resorts or catch the monorail to Epcot. You only need the ticket if you are entering a park.
If you are going at a "Peak Time" and not staying on Property and you are going to Magic Kingdom, you may want to park at Epcot and take the monorail to Magic Kingdom. It's much better than trying park and the huge transportation center
During our "Universal" vacation Christmas 2008, we spent Christmas Eve day at Downtown Disney, left the car there and hopped a Disney bus to the Grand Floridian. We ate dinner at the GF Cafe, then took the Monorail for a loop around the other resorts to see the Christmas decorations. We still had time to burn before watching the MK fireworks from the dock, so we took a quick ride on one of the boats that travel between the parks and resorts. Anyone can use Disney transportation, no problem at all.
Have a great trip!
No park ticket required for the monorail. Depending on where you park, you may have to pay parking, but otherwise it's free. Some people like to ride the monorail as a free thing they can do to get a WDW "fix".

They don't even check park tickets. The monorail stations arrive outside the parks. You theoretically could take the monorail from MK to Epcot without ever entering either park.
So, just to clarify, you can park at Disney Village and get a Disney Bus to the Theme Parks, I thought you would need resort ID? We stayed at Coronado a couple of years ago and I honestly can't remember if we just got straight on the buses no probs, just remember the driver slamming the breaks on for a laugh and people got hurt - idiot staying offsite in Kissimmee this time!
DTD buses only go to Resorts, not to the Parks. This is because parking is free at DTD and everyone would do it. It takes hours, but you could take a bus to a resort and then a bus from the resort to the parks.

If you catch a monorail from the TTC to EPCOT the monorail station is outside the park, but the monorail will actually enter EPCOT where you can look down and see the attractions in Future World and see World Showcase in the distance.
