"Last night I was invited to attend a focus group, and I assumed it was Disney related because they asked a bunch of Disney questions on the phone. So I arrived and find out it is a focus group for Disney Mobile, the new service Disney is going to offer with Sprint PCS in 2006. We got a sneak peak at a lot of the content and features of the service. Here is some of the content they showed us:

Location Finder – Allows parents to track location of child or others with Disney Mobile phone by internet or with the cell phone through the use of a GPS locator included in the handset. The service will also include directions to location.

Minute Manager – Parents will be able to allot individual phones with a certain amount of minutes. When an account reached the limit, the parent is notified.

Disney Themes, Wallpapers, Ring tones, Animated Character Greetings, personalized Called ID.

Radio Disney Streaming Audio – Self explanatory

Disney Park Pal – This was the coolest for me. It is basically Pal Mickey on your phone. You will get alerts to show times, character meet and greets, and other park content while at Disney World or Disneyland.

Disney Trivial Pursuit

Movies, songs, and TV show clips sent directly to the phone

Disney Vault – Here is where they get the real fans. It is an added service that will allow you access to exclusive park destination content, unreleased info such as animation cells, attraction and movie posters, and blueprints to your favorite rides and more. Very awesome stuff."

....Sounds pretty cool!

Pretty cool, except for the deal-breaker: The carrier is Sprint!!! Yuck!

Boy that Disney sure keeps coming up with more and more ways to part me from my money! LOL

Tim, I know, I agree. I have nextel, I wonder if that under the sprint umbrella that will make it available for nextel customers as well.

I am really hoping the Sprint will improve with teh aquisition of Nextel. I see a new phone in dh's future if that happens! (Mine is supplied by work)

I agree they need to come up with something for Nextel users as well. Nextel is used by all the park workers now and in my business everyone uses it.

Can't be that hard to do it on both networks.

Nextel and Sprint are currently using two different technologies though. Sprint PCS runs on CDMA and then nextel is iDEN. Until they both use the same technologies - their toys, options, ect will not be interchangable. I beleive iDEN will start to be phased out though.

I have a feeling it's going to be expensive. And Sprint? PU! :crazy2:

Last I looked at Sprint they only covered corridors around the major highways. Too far off of that and there was nothing.

I have my Sprint phone where it will go into Analog roam when needed and I go in some off the beaten path places.

Never really had a problem.

Every time I've gone comparing local cell providers, Sprint wasn't even serving my local area. A little over a year ago I moved from Verizon to T-Mobile, and Sprint wasn't even an option.

I went to their website and plugged in my zip code. It looks like they are now servicing this area, but that's just within the past year. Unfortunately, I bet they're going to charge premium prices for this new service.

My company was one of the first with Nextel so we have been with them for a while Yea Iden is being fazed out (I think 2008 is the time frame). However even though the technology is different most of the content can be intergrated into both I get some of the sprint stuff on my nextel now.

This all has to do with the agreement with Disney going with Nextel for all of it's park communications (buses ,Cms' ,maint.and so forth) I have this with Nascar and would love it with Disney .

I already have so many wallpapers and ringtones and downloaded podcast I would love some content as well

How in the world did you download a podcast to your nextel? Is that even possible?

Thanks

I just convert to MP3 and download away .

I have the New I870 and a 512mb micro SSD card so it holds a good bit.

I just wish they would offer this for Verizon. I used to have Sprint until the one time I really needed it in Tonawanda NY and there was no service in that area. The very next day I dumped Sprinrt and went with Verizon. Never had a problem since. I even love the fact when we travel we still use the service without having to special program the phones.
