The part that makes this a non-starter for me is how they charge more than Sprint prices and don't offer the full package.
With a "Sprint" plan, you have the ability to call anyone within the sprint network without using your plan minutes. With the "Disney mobile" plan, all calls not made to phones on your account will cost you minutes from your plan.
I called Disney mobile and confirmed this. The CM told me that they're only targeting families at this time, so they chose not to offer free calling to other network customers.

Oh and by the way, they do not show they have the same coverage as Sprint either. How is that possible? Not to mention that I cannot transfer my existing Sprint/Nextel numbers.
I think I will stick with my Nextel service until they iron out all of the bugs and details of this new service.
I have to say I do like the Call Management feature. But I won't convert just my daughter as that would raise my Cell Phone costs by about $60.
I had Spring and had no problem with it. Nextell on the other hand people have had problem with reception in my area. My brother got rid of it for that reason. So I guess it depends on where you live which service is better I am assuming. I am definatly thinking of getting the Disney mobile.
I don't know if anyone else can confirm this - but it appears that they are actually using the Nextel network, instead of the Sprint network.
I haven't looked into what technology the phones use or anything along those lines - but from the coverage map they have - it's exactly the same as Nextel's for my area.
It does all of the big city, and then ONLY near the main highways everywhere else - like a spider-web with a bunch of empty spots
My DBF has Sprint I had Tmobile he was getting signals where I had none. And when him and I did have signals he signals are always stronger then mine.
He did have problems once he called sprint up and told them what the problem was and they did a tower update. (They added more cell towers and the new ones werent registering on his phone they did an update for him and he had no problems was tld to call back every 6 months for updates on his phone for new towers that maybe be added) Sorry dont know tech term for what he didi but for all of you having problems with Sprint with reception may want to call and ask about this.
To answer an earlier question, Disney Mobile operates on the Sprint CDMA network, not Nextel's iDEN network. Interesting note about the Sprint network is that Virgin Mobile is consistently rated as one of the best networks over all other carriers. And like Disney Mobile, it to rides solely on the Sprint network. (As does ESPN Mobile.)
Re: coverage, part of the issue may be that Disney Mobile isn't allowed to access Sprint's affiliate networks. (i.e., Sprint doesn't own all of its network, some is supplied by other smaller --- affiliate --- carriers.) Just a guess.
And re: Sprint coverage, I have found that Sprint frequently makes tower adjustments. And it usually requires that you go to a Sprint store and get a software upgrade on your phone (no charge) for your phone to recognize the change.
