Disney Magic Renovations CONFIRMED

Gosh - I'm just so tickled I could cry!!!

When we figured we'd bite the bullet and pay the $$$ to bring a family of 8 on a cruise I ordered the video and we watched it with glee. Of course the planning DVD emphasizes the Dream & Fantasy.

Then - pricing it out for when we could go - a four night cruise on an "old ship" was $50 more expensive than 3 nights on a "new ship." We would get more bang for our buck on the "old ship" and reserved accordingly. After getting psyched over the video I had to tell the kids we'd have no magic portholes (we can only afford inside state rooms) and no AquaDuck.

While the refurb doesn't include magic portholes it DOES include the Andy's bedroom, Mickey Mouse Club and that cool Aqua Lab.

My oldest will just have aged out of Oceaneer stuff though. He's bummed. I'll talk up Edge to him.

Me - I'm so happy to be on a smaller ship with some new bling at the price we booked at. ♥
Don't worry, you're not missing much with the Aqua Duck.

I'm so excited to hear about the changes. The older ships have been cheaper than the new ones but I couldn't go back to the old style mostly the staterooms. With the remodel I can go on the Magic, sail to a place other than the Bahamas, & get one extra night for same price as the Dream.

I've been on the Wonder twice & didn't care for Parrot Cay. I do hope the new restaurant comes with a new menu. However the one thing I always look forward to is the Grand Manier Soufflé. I'm booking the Magic for 2014 now. AquaDunk looks so fun. My DD will turn 18 in December so can enjoy the adult area with us finally.

I also think it is great the Disney is adding Marvel to the ship. One day we were walking through the atrium on the Dream & saw all the little girls waiting for the Disney Princesses; nothing for little boys to do. Glad they are adding it even though I don't have a son. I think little boys should have something.

The more I read this thread, the more excited I become. Thanks DCL for being amazing!!! :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Yes, I love DCL. :)

I'm thrilled about the changes! My husband wants to book our next cruise on one of the classic ships, but I'm pushing for the new ships for the following reasons: 1) the kids love the Nemo's reef area and could spend hours there, the water play areas on the older ships are just pathetic. 2) the Oceaneers Club on the classic ships seemed too dark and cluttered. 3) the staterooms on the newer ships look much more attractive and up to date. 4) we love the Midship Detective Agency.

Well, three out of four is good enough for me! I think our next cruise may be on the Magic!

Who let the troll in?? Booo!!!

In OTHER news... Wow! I am SOoooOo excited! The changes look totally bodacious. The Aqua lab and Dunk look amazing, I am already in line for my wedgie!
We are already booked for the first post-dry dock cruise, I love the idea of being the first one to sleep in new sheets!
I am also really happy that the teaser photos of the new restaurant were inaccurate, I did NOT like those cheesy flags, the lanterns look great! I think Parrot Cay was great for character breakfast, but that was about it. So long, you crazy birds, you will long live in our hearts!
I am on team double-staircase for the atrium, this is my one and only disappointment. I just don't think it makes sense to make it so closely mirror the bigger ships, where the effect is bound to be more grand. Oh well, I really can't complain!

I can't wait to see what they do with that closet they used to hide the babies in... What was it called again? Ah yes, Flounder's Follies! I know they'll give it the makeover deserving of it's littlest passengers!
All the youth areas make me want to be a kid again, I hope they have open house times so I can bring in my toddler and have an excuse to run wild! ... I mean supervise my child in a totally mature and appropriate way.
I have a feeling there is even more to come!

See you soon, Disney Magic! Xoxo

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Lucky you...I don't have a small child to be able to explore the kid areas. :worried:

As someone who is fairly new to DCL and has only sailed on the new ships, I'm really excited about the changes. We're not looking for a million bells and whistles -- if we were we'd be sailing on RCI's newest ships. We're looking for Disney service, Disney attention to detail and -- dare I say -- Disney magic, in a ship that is modern and has lots of things to do onboard to keep our family busy. I booked a Med cruise on the Magic for next summer knowing that she would be undergoing an extensive dry dock this fall. I would have seriously considered another cruise line otherwise.

Disney is smart. They know that diehard DCL fans would continue to sail on the Magic and Wonder no matter what. To attract new customers, though, the classic ships need some modernizing and some shiny new features. No, they will not compete with the new ships that RCI and Princess have in the works, but they will be very appealing for people who want the Disney experience but demand an up-to-date looking ship with at least a few "wow" features.

Very well said. And my feelings too.

Our first was the Dream, and next is Fantasy this summer. I really want to try one of the classic ships because of the smaller size - but my young teen wants at least something similar to the Aquaduck. And I want something just a bit fresher looking than 1998. This seems to fit the bill! :)

I'm so jealous! I'm too tall. :( I'm sneaking one in, I just need to slouch and slither.

Whoever said the Mickey pool is still there, I hate to say it, but you're wrong. There is a pool there, but it most certainly is not the Mickey pool anymore. I like all the new ideas, but I will miss the Mickey pool.

Don't worry, you're not missing much with the Aqua Duck.
Actually, a lot of people like the Aqua Duck, myself and my family included.

When I went on the Wonder in '06 (wayy too long...), I was not impressed with the Mickey pool. It was always loud and crowded. And it, um, had a special color to it.

Hmmm, i hope they don't change too much on the suites. Looks like they are giving them the same carpet as the Dream/Fantasy.

Why did you link to gratuities?

To remind everyone to tip?
If you read between the lines it says it's for families. :rotfl: Just kidding.
It lists the slide attendant in the tips now. :rotfl2: Kidding again.

Come on, give the old man a break. ;)

I fixed link. Thanks for alerting me to the bad link.

:goodvibes

The new slide, not the Aqua Dunk is for everyone. All sizes, all ages. :cool1:

'Almost' all sizes:

The Twist n' Spout water slide is for guests between 38 and 64 inches tall.

The AquaDunk has a minimum height requirement of 48".

In the video he said it was a "family slide, not just for kids."
Where does it mention height restrictions?
TIA
