Disney Magic Renovations CONFIRMED

I hope they bring her back to NYC in the not too distant future.

Better talk to a lot of people up their and get a lot of fees and extra cost removed. It's very expensive to bring ship into NYNY.

Thier are two ports right now are wining and dinning to get a DCL ship and will give anything to get it. New Orleans is one they are building another new cruise ship terminal. The Fantasy and Dream are locked into PC for several more years and next year except for Med cruises Magic will be working out of PC .

Their will be a DCL ship departing 5 days a week starting around Jan 2014 from PC until May 16 when Magic goes to Med for Summer.

Watch occ. close this will tell a lot. Two new ships also strat sailing from Fla. East Coast at same time. First thing to watch for is KSF.

Let's just go ahead and call it the Aqua Wedgie... Cripes. There will be some firmly lodged bikini bottoms!! I still think it looks like great fun.

I wonder what will become of the old chandelier... Any thoughts?

Another Dis person said several months ago it was going to be hung in PC Termainal.

Pesonnally I though it was ugly. But that is my opinion, and we all know that and 40 cent may get you a cup of coffee somewere.

Have idea on other stair case in atiurm, they are taking it out to offset the AQUADUCK weight up top!!!! Sounds good to me.

look at what Disney has done at parks, both Disneyland and WDW magic Kingdom, and Disney Studio with the coming of Cars Land.

Magic Reno. is peanuts.

Living of their past glory, in today world may not work anymore.

They did not fill the ship in Galveston!!!! I sailed on Magic from Galveston not the port. Very easy to get on and off. Very close to cheap sirport that has Southwest as main tennent.

Maybe the Magic has worn off.

I am stock holder and long time Disney person. But I look at what is happening in the Cruise industry and Disney to me is trying to live a dream and for the most part in the world today that dose not work.

Peanuts, really! Sounds like it will cost a lot and it's a ship for heaven's sake, there is only so much that can be done.

And again, each to his own. I see the things being advertised from other lines and frankly I like DCL because they about the cruise experience, the story of ocean voyages of the past rather than a mall and theme park that happens to float.

Fortunately there is something for everyone's taste.

The DCL facebook video does give a little better sense of the changes. I think a deck 9 facelift, atrium, restaurant and kids clubs changes will make the ship feel very new. I'm very thankful that the bottom of the new pool is NOT black or dark. I hope they redo Goofy pool - it's rather odd high walls and strict dark rectangle shape are very outdated. I don't suppose they could do a zero entry?

How in the world are they going to get all this done in 6 weeks?

When do you all anticipate the Wonder will get it's facelift?

Did Disney say how much. Judging against what Carnival is doing to Destny to make into Sunshine $155 Million, plus another 30 million in new safty equipment I would love to see what DCL puts out a price tag. Both ships will be worked on st the same ship yard in Italy. The same one that built the Magic.

May have to go to P & L statement to find out.

Do you think there will be more details released later? The videos seemed to imply it.

I know it is silly, but we really want the mid-detective agency and curious if that is still a possibility or no chance now that all those other great things are being added?

General obesrvation that this thread reminds me of from DIS world. There are a lot of people in this world.
One group of people act like they would rather everything that Disney did stay like it was when it originally was released. They are resistant to changes of any kind.
One group of people complains that Disney never does anything new, but typically they are the same people to complain if something they liked goes away in the progress of moving forward with something new.
One group wants something new and different everytime they go even if they are the type to go to something Disney ever week or every month.
Then there are the majority who fally in the middle of all the other groups.

I find the dynamics humerous.

I love the Magic, but I am very excited about these changes. I think these changes are a wonderful compromise between keeping things classic and keeping things fresh. From the artists renderings the AquaDunk looks like it will add a fun thrill element for the young adults/teens that people always complain are ignored on the Classic ships without adding much if any impact to the aesthetics of the ship. No the AquaDunk is not for everyone, but neither is the spa, the kids clubs, the fitness center, the adult areas etc.

The changes to the atrium I think are going to be welcome changes to open the atrium up, allow for more useful space and more light. As for the decor changes and the new light fixture, The old chandlier was a piece of art, but most places need to change up the look of the decor at least every 10 years and the Magic atrium has pretty much looked exactly the same since it was entered service in 1998. It is probably past time for some updating/change.

It appears that they are adding to Animators Pallate not taking away from it. I will say from experience that the effects of AP are very different in its current state depending on where you are seated. The first time we went I was in awe at the show and the effects. The second time I was seated by the door and couldn't really see the walls change or the animation so it was anticlamatic. I am excited about a chance for enhancement to the experience.

The changes to the kids club look great. One thing that stood out to me in the video is something I noticed when we were on the Magic. The kids clubs in their current configuration are very dark. Not dark like evil but dark like not enough light. THe artist renderings at least seem to brighten up the space a lot. I love that they are adding a Superheros section. I feel like there will be activities to appeal to girls and boys.

I wish I could figure out a way to get back on the Magic sooner rather than later. As it stands right now we are on the Wonder in 2014 and not plans until 2015 for another cruise.

I think the changes look good!!! I bet (and hope) they film the whole drydock process like other cruise lines have and televise it at some point in the future. I forget which ship it was but they had the whole revamp on film and it was pretty cool with the time lapse photography and stuff.

I remember that. It was cool to see. And I would love it if they filmed this one too.

They plan on doing this. From the DCL blog...
"Over the next several months we’ll be sharing tons of videos so you can have all the details on the ship’s transformation. We’ll also be giving exclusive sneak peeks to Disney Cruise Line fans on Facebook, including a Disney Magic Re-Imagined video series with global architecture expert Danny Forster. Be sure to check out the first video posted today at www.facebook.com/disneycruiseline!"

Well I for one am split right down the middle. Overall I like what they are doing and I hope the Wonder will get the same treatment. As someone who loves waterslides I love the addition of the Aquadunk. I am hoping twist and spout is not restricted to just kid, but I have a bad feeling it will be. Oh well. I am one of the few on here that hate AP. I wish that was the restaurant they got rid of. When I eat, I like to eat, not be entertained. That's my personal preference. It is what it is. I am torn on the atrium as well. I think what DCL is trying to do is streamline as much as they can over the four ships. This I do not like. When I am on the Magic, I don't want to feel like I am on the Dream, Fantasy, or Wonder. I think you see my point there. In the long run I think the changes will be welcome, and I look forward to seeing them. I just wish DCL would not try to copy itself and keep each ship different. Oh and yes I know, each look different, I am talking about overall feel.

Twist and Spout will have a maximum height restriction of 64 inches. I just make it, and you better believe I will be attempting to go down it!

Me too! I'm 62" tall!!!! They never let me ride the Mickey slide (there's an age restriction) :(

Gosh - I'm just so tickled I could cry!!!

When we figured we'd bite the bullet and pay the $$$ to bring a family of 8 on a cruise I ordered the video and we watched it with glee. Of course the planning DVD emphasizes the Dream & Fantasy.

Then - pricing it out for when we could go - a four night cruise on an "old ship" was $50 more expensive than 3 nights on a "new ship." We would get more bang for our buck on the "old ship" and reserved accordingly. After getting psyched over the video I had to tell the kids we'd have no magic portholes (we can only afford inside state rooms) and no AquaDuck.

While the refurb doesn't include magic portholes it DOES include the Andy's bedroom, Mickey Mouse Club and that cool Aqua Lab.

My oldest will just have aged out of Oceaneer stuff though. He's bummed. I'll talk up Edge to him.

Me - I'm so happy to be on a smaller ship with some new bling at the price we booked at. ♥
