Disney Kicks Out Some Pop Warner Teams After Fight

We just returned from POR where there were cheerleaders EVERYWHERE.

To be honest... I didn't see any problems all week. We arrived on the 1st and left on the 9th. The families of the girls were all really nice and the cheerleaders we met or saw were behaving themselves as well. We had NO noise issues and the only reason I knew it was Pop Warner week is because someone told me here... you couldn't tell much at the resort.

The buses were a little crowded coming back from late EMH parks but otherwise everything was smooth sailing!

In reference to the groups being kicked off property...it was probably a good decision. Technically I'm never allowed back to the Canadian side of Niagra Falls.... back in 1985 two members of the youth group I was in at the time walked out of a restaurant w/o paying and we were all banned for life.

The fights happened at 1am according to this article:

Disney kicks out youth teams for fighting

Three teams competing in the Pop Warner Super Bowl Competition were evicted from Walt Disney World’s All-Star Resort over the weekend because of a fighting incident at the hotel.

“This was unfortunate, but with thousands of guests staying at the resort we have to maintain a safe environment for everyone,” Jacob DiPietre, a spokesman for Walt Disney World, said Monday.

“All participants were made aware of our strict zero-tolerance policy regarding any physical disturbances. Any teams involved in fighting are subject to disqualification and eviction. We were in direct consultation with both Pop Warner officials and law enforcement throughout the course of the event.”

The fight occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, according to DiPietre. At that time, members of the midget league teams, their families and others traveling with the teams, were told to leave the hotel.

The midget league is in the age range of 14 to 16 years old.

The teams involved were the Westport Patriots of Baltimore; the Kahalu’u Hei’eia Broncos of Kailua, Hawaii; and the Waianae Tigers of Waianae, Hawaii

If the time of the incident is correct - and the kids involved were 14 to 16 years old - it clearly shows a lack of supervision by chaperones and/or parents.. Wonder how the kids involved feel - knowing they caused the eviction of so many families in the middle of the night? :sad2:

Absolutely! Those families should be upset with the kids that were involved in the fight. Funny, no one mentioned being angry at them; just Disney. Give me a break! Go Disney! Go Disney! Go Disney!

Disney did what they had to do to protect the other guests on site who had no connection to these two teams and I think it was a very smart move on their part.. It sends out a very strong message - one that has been long overdue..

ITA. If I were there on a family trip and this was happening I would certainly expect and appreciate it. From what I understand the rules are laid down when the groups make the arrangements, correct? If so then they came knowing the consequences.

Now, if I were a kid and in that situation we'd be policing all the other kids to make sure nobody got us kicked out! ;)

I'm sure they feel like victims in all this, don't you think? :sad2:

I never even thought of that.. Can you imagine what those flights home must have been like????

Disney had no choice but to toos the entire teams out on their ears immediately. Leaving even parts of the teams in the resorts until morning would have been a recipe for a riot, as teens went after each other in retaliation for retribution for revenge for payback for the evictions caused by the fights that probably started from some kid "dissing" some other kid in an arcade.

Good riddence - the remainder of my stay here at All-Star Movies will be more enjoyable knowing that these disruptive kids are gone.

I'll be interested in seeing the reaction when I get home to Baltimore. Personally, I'm ashamed of the Baltimore team.

I agree with what Disney did. They had these teams sign an agreement. If you break it, this is what happens.

I support Disney's decision. If the chaperones had done their jobs then they wouldn't have been tossed out.

What if something had happened to the children while they were out at that time of the night? What is one was seriously injured or ran off? Who's fault would that have been?

I am tired of the lack of personal responsibility. Instead of admitting to making a mistake, the chaperones have to blame Disney.

I wonder if the Pop Warner league will issue any sanctions to those teams?

The families did have something to do with it...it was their team...and if the kids are awake and roaming the halls none of the "Chaperones" should be tucked into bed...

Plus it’s not like they'd have to drive more then a min off Disney property to find another hotel...
I agree with this. The cheerleaders could NOT have been doing what they were doing that caused the problem if the chaperones were watching them or making sure they were in their rooms. I have known folks who went down for this and the cheerleaders stayed on site and the chaperones stayed off site to save $. The parents and families have no one to blame but themselves if there is a problem and they are not properly keeping an eye on the kids.

I must also agree that Disney did the right thing. As a parent of three kids that were in band, when we went on band trips and chaperoned we were not in bed until all the students were in their rooms and we did room checks periodically. So yes, I blame the chaperones for not doing their jobs. If you volunteer as a chaperone then you better know what you are getting yourself into. Hopefully this will be a lessoned learned for all other events with chaperoned children. Kudos to Disney.......:thumbsup2

You've got to be kidding! These kids are 14-16 years old and they were fighting at 1 am? The chaperones and parents were clearly neglectful. Sorry, but kids that age should be in the rooms by 11 if they are not with adults. They have no business being out on their own, especially in large groups, at that time of night. Goodness, my DS, almost 18 is home before 11:30 here at home, I sure as heck wouldn't allow him free reign at WDW after midnight~

Well I have to just say Great fro Disney and what they did.

We just had 9 13-14 year olds pull a lady (26) off a MTA bus and beat her near to death . they also beat her companion ,another rider on the bus and the bus driver for pulling over.

So these could be the same type of students and who knows how they would esculate the problem in their Pack mentality.

Toss them all and you protect all others .If your concerned and don't want to be with the group then book on your own and don't get the discounts .I did this one year as I thought the Team I was playing for ( PaintBall at WwoS) were a few trouble makers but I was just a late pickup and just wanted to play and enjoy the parks.

It's sad because I think our Other Team won the SuperBowl in their division and this just throws a blackeye on what they did. I then have to wonder if they are team involved and didn't report that part when they arrived home here on the local news.

Eother way it's sad that kids can't behave but thats how they are taught to settle things by fighting . I wondeer where they get it from.

I'm at Allstar Music now--big check out day today--very relaxing--no more crank phone calls--thank God

My DS 13 is on a travel hockey team.....we travel as families and I would be VERY upset if my family was in our room and got kicked out because others on the team misbehaved!!!!!

We have never been given notice that we would be kicked out if anyone else did something wrong.....

I will be asking our team manager about this next time I see him....I would not want to have to wake up my 5 year old in the middle of the night!!!

Of course as a guest at disney I would not want to be around any trouble.....
although when I read about the HS groups throwing Mickey in the lake .....it made me kind of smile...:confused3 I don't know why...I guess because it sounds like a scene from a bad comedy......:3dglasses

To those who say theese two teams could have checked into another hotel which was not on WDW property, wouldn't they still have been banned from the Pop Warner events? Or were they kicked out just as all the events were over and they would have needed the rooms for that night only and gone later that day?

The event was over so they needed to just spend the night and most going home that morning I would think.

But I know of a Paintball Team that got banned for shooting their Markers at one of the All-Star resorts about 4 years ago. They were not allowed back to the event either

I am sure that they feel just as their parents have raised them to feel -- that Disney had no right to treat them like this and that they are victims of draconian policies which should not apply to THEM. Because they are the most special people in the world, you know.

I dunno... the idea of throwing Mickey in the lake gave me a very bad feeling. Those costumes are heavy. What if the cast member got caught in his costume and couldn't swim? Or what if he just didn't know how to swim in the first place? I think it would be terrifying for the poor cast member.

I'd be appalled if either of my children were that cruel toward another human being, just because he happened to be working in a costume. No one deserves to be pushed around and thrown, into a lake or not.

Not to mention, if the costume was ruined, that's a lot of $$ out of Disney's pocket.

FWIW, I'd be upset too if my family was kicked out in the middle of the night due to the actions of others, BUT I'd be upset at the team leaders who let these 14 to 16 year olds hang out in an arcade at 1am. I'd be upset at the kids who got into the brawl. I wouldn't be upset at Disney!
