Disney Kicks Out Some Pop Warner Teams After Fight

Curfew??

Chaparones??

Rules & Boundaries??

Where were these??

IMHO, this is a failure of the team's parents and supervisor to set forth their expectations and consequences.

Hey, life's tough. It sucks they were shown the door in the middle of the night, but those concerned should have issues with the kids that fought & the parents that tacitly allowed it through their failure to supervise the kids properly.

I have to say that I am glad that Disney is enforcing the rules for inappropriate behavior and am glad that no one else who might have been in the arcade was hurt.

Where were the chaperones for these kids while all of the fighting was taken place?

I say good for disney

and its always team policy what goes for one goes for them all…

To cant help but say
if the kids can be up and out of their hotel room in the "middle of the night" then they sure can be kicked out then....maybe if those kids were in bed then they wouldn’t have been fighting....What kind of team has an 10 or 11pm curfew??

I agree - the individual kids involved in the fight are not the only ones to blame - major blame falls to the adults who were supposed to be responsible for these kids!!!! If they weren't doing their job with a few - they weren't doing their job for the group!!! Bottom line here is irresponsible adults!!!

Good rules and appropriate enforcement!!!!

I agree.

I was with a group of choirs from a local school. One person was caught shoplifting. She was sent home. The others could stay.

But for violent acts, I am glad everyone went home. What if your five year old and ten year old were in the arcade when it happened. (ok not probable due to the time, in this case) People in a fight do not care what or who they knock over.... Other guests could have been injured and WDW would be responsible.

I don't think they should have been kicked out at 1 am, just called at 1am and told they must leave by 9am. Park passes canceled etc.

I also hope the fighting kids and their parents have to pay all the added expenses of finding instant flights home etc...

This is what I refer to as "natural consequences".. Break the rules, pay the price..

Many people who have been to WDW during Pop Warner/Cheerleading weeks are well aware of the atrocious behavior of some of the kids who are there during those time periods - and chaperones who "look the other way" or give the old "they're just kids having fun" speech.. Complaints from other guests are numerous and it appears that Disney is finally listening..

Getting kicked out at 1 a.m. is extreme - which leads me to believe that this was a particularly dangerous situation, which in turn prompted Disney to take immediate action.. Knocking on the doors of 100 rooms in the middle of the night to evict people is a clear indication that this was much more than a fist fight between a couple of teenagers and Disney felt the need to protect other guests staying on-site..

I feel bad for the parents and children who weren't involved, but that's the chance you take when you travel with large groups..

I applaud Disney for considering the safety of their other guests and taking immediate action..:thumbsup2

I doubt very much that a lawsuit will result in any compensation for the families that were evicted.. Disney had an obligation to protect their other guests and keep them out of harms way and that's exactly what they did..

Ok, let's say that Disney waited until the morning to kick folks out. How would they have kept the 'warring parties' separated all night? Post armed guards at people's rooms? The chaperones had already proven that the adults in the group were not IN control. Throw them off-property and it's not Disney's problem, it's the law enforcement agencies these incipient hoodlums will encounter on their merry way HOME.

Yea, it's sad that the little cherubs who are blameless in this situation, were rousted out of their cribs in the middle of the night. But hey...how many kids did that one woman have in her room anyway? The way she was going on, sounded like she has three kids, a 1, 2 and 3 year old...was she over the limit :rolleyes1 ?!?

Assuming that Pop Warner has their Super Bowl at WDW next year, I am sure that ALL the teams will be complete angels and actually will be chaperoned. Bad news travels fast. It's like when the IRS goes after a celebrity...everyone hears about it and the IRS gets a lot of bang for their enforcement buck.

agnes!

I say, Kudos to Disney for enforcing their policy!

The point of having such a policy is that it requires the group to police its own. As well they should, but sadly, sometimes it doesn't happen. The group as a whole is the guest of Disney, they should behave properly.

I feel a little bad for the parents who had to leave in the middle of the night, but I still think Disney did the right thing. I'm betting it's a lesson those athletes won't soon forget.

I knew this was going to happen, because some of those "Pop Warner" kids look like they could beat up Hulk Hogan! Some of the cheerleaders too!:rolleyes1 KUDOS to DISNEY, hope they are never invited back either.

I say good for Disney. The families all agreed with the policy so Disney have every right to enforce the rules. Plus, this type of rule makes EVERYONE in the group aware that all will be held accountable for the actions of a few which one would think would make EVERYONE in the group on the lookout for bad behaviour.

My reaction to all the families getting kicked out? Tough.

Just imagine... if people could just behave, life would be some much better for all of us.

:thumbsup2

I'm glad Disney kicked them out, and in the middle of the night. Let that be a lesson to the others who go there and cause trouble.

I must be the only one that disagrees. I think only the people involved should be kicked out. Why hold good people accountable for the bad few out there. I would be so mad if i was minding my business and because someone on my DD or DS team got in a fight and we were woking up in the middle of the night and kicked out.

I agree, particularly if you are a parent who knows where their team member is.

i suspect that most of the families would have been flying out on sunday anyway-the tournie was from the 1st thru the 8th, and if someone's kid was already taken out of school for an entire week it would be logical to be flying home on sunday (and lord, i can't imagine how early you'de need to get a flight from orlando to hawaii on a sunday if you wanted your kids to be in any way functioning to go to school the next day-we always come home at least 2 days before the kids have to go back to school and we're one less time zone change than hawaii:rolleyes: ).

btw-i just noticed that someone posted on the trip planning forum what a bad experience they had with some of the pop warner kids at one of the all star resorts-and it appears that they posted it without any knowledge of this event.

I agree, particularly if you are a parent who knows where their team member is.

Even if the agreement was if one breaks the rules, the entire team will pay the consequences?

From what I and others have experienced with these type of trips, it's made very clear before anyone sets foot on property that everyone is responsible even for the actions of a few or even one. Our choir director told us if even ONE person shoplifted, was out after curfew or did anything else against the rules the whole choir and chaperones would be sent home.

I think it if had not been a violent act, the response would not have been as harsh. What if these kids injuried another guest? Who would be stuck with the lawsuit from the uninvolved injured party? DISNEY-which is why they have that clause in the group agreements.

When traveling with a team the parents are chaperones to all the kids ...
Its not enough to say mine didn’t do it….because as a team member they are all "theirs"

Disney is known to ban entire schools from Gradnight if there are fights.

It's also smart of Disney to lay down such rules... It helps generate positive peer pressure when one kid tries to do something stupid around teammates.

And in all honesty, if an entire family was under threat of being evicted from the property immediately, how many of them would admit that their child was not in their presence when this incident broke out?

Disney did what they had to do to protect the other guests on site who had no connection to these two teams and I think it was a very smart move on their part.. It sends out a very strong message - one that has been long overdue..
