Okay... I have read through many threads regarding trip insurance and I am still torn on the whole trip insurance issue.

We are headed down this September and are staying at ASMu for 7 nights. It is just DH and myself. When we booked our package, I added the trip insurance, but DH wants me to cancel the insurance. Tomorrow is the last day I have to cancel the insurance and I don't know what to do... any insight from fellow disers?

We have never purchased trip insurance ever. BUT ... if I was going in September I might due to the very slight chance of a disruption from a hurricane.

I've never purchased the insurance. The cost of the insurance for us is about the same as the cost of the partial deposit/deposit penalty I would receive if I canceled.

This is our thinking as well.....what we would lose by cancelling would be about what the insurance would cost us, so we never buy the insurance....and we've gone the last 2 years for free dining in September. Alot of people say buy the insurance for the month of September due to hurricane season, but nobody ever suggests it for the summer months (which I find kinda strange) since hurricane season actually starts June 1 and goes through Oct or Nov :confused3.

I should have clarified my original post (the OP was asking about September) ... I MIGHT buy it if I was going in the months of July - October. That's my opinion after having lived in Florida through 2 hurricane seasons.

But right, you have to figure out what you have invested and whether it's worth the money to you vs. what the risk is (IMO, minimal to non-existent from a hurricane).

And hurricane season is June 1 - Nov 30, I believe.

Oh no.....I wasn't directing anything toward you, I'm sorry if it sounded like that :upsidedow. I was just saying how strange I thought it was that nobody (that I've seen) mentions the summer months when it comes to hurricane season and insurance.....it always seems to be just September .

No offense - I just wanted to clarify that it's not just September after you mentioned it. :goodvibes I lived in Florida through the wonderful 2004-2005 seasons (bad timing). It does though seem like when things happen, it's in the August-September time frame based on that, but I think historically, that's not really true. Just like people say hurricanes never hit near Kennedy Space Center, that's why they put it there - totally not why they put it there - there's no magic safety zone over there!

Sorry to the OP - I've hijacked now.

Howdy all... thanks for all your input so far. Just to clarify, I did mention that I am going in Sept, but that is not my main reason for wondering about insurance - I was just wondering overall if anyone thinks it is truly vital. I am more apt to say no... but I was just looking for more input before I cancelled the insurance from our package. ;)

Well for the amount of money that goes into a Disney trip etc. I buy the trip insurance. I add it at the end before I make my final payment if I can't go etc. I feel more comfortable with the insurance in case I have to fly back home for an emergency. But everyone has their views on this. So it is really up to each person. Last year they did have a hurricane but didn't hit land. So weather is wacky anymore now days.:goodvibes

I had a client recently who booked an air inclusive package. The night before his 7:00 am flight he had a mild stroke. Without insurance he would have been out a lot of money. A lot of people think nothing is going to happen to them or their family members and they say they're going on vacation no matter what. But you never know what disaster might strike. I always recommend travel insurance.

I get trip insurance because we go in September. Never have used it but you never know.

Well, with my airfare that is non-refundable, non everything else, plus the cost of the trip coupled with the fact that I am going in Jan (flu season), I am very leaning towards getting insurance: Question....where do you get travel insurance?

Steve

We are going to Disney for the first time in August and we are getting the travel insurance. It is highly likely that one of us or the kids will get sick, lose luggage or get hurt, at least with our family, LOL! So I just feel more safe with the insurance. We are purchasing ours through Disney.
