Disney in October

I am planning a trip to Disney for this year. I would like to go the middle of October. Of course, I would be taking my son out of school for 4 days. I would like to know how the weather is and if the crowds are less during this time. Also, would Disney be offering the free Dining Plan during October?

October is a pretty good time to go. It can still be pretty hot in October, but not sweltering like June through September. If you are taking him out the week of Columbus Day then the crowds tend to be higher that week - I'd say medium high averages. Disney has offered some select free dining dates in October the last couple of years, but nothing has been released yet for this October. I believe Columbus Day week was blocked out last year for free dining. New FD discounts should be coming out in the next couple of weeks. The best thing to do is subscribe to one of the many free dining watch threads over on the Codes and Rates boards. The new fd code will come out there probably before it even appears on the Disney website.

Disney is not crowded in October. A lot of people in Europe take time off during that month, so you will see a lot of soccer jerseys. If you are used to a dry climate, you will find it very humid in October. The humidity is worse than the heat, but I found two showers a day helps. If time and your budget permits, take him to the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and a waterpark. October does usually have free dining, but no past promotions are guarantees of a future one. Hopefully, there will be one that fits into your dates. Good luck and have fun.
