Disney Hotel Experiences

I am sorry that you had a bad trip.

We stayed at Poly Concierge LV back in September and the room was not in the best shape and to me was dirty. Also, I felt the Concierge lounge was dirty. (That said, it was just before rehab)

In fact, one night we ate spring rolls in the Concierge Lounge and we had to check out the next day I was so sick from them.

It can happen in any of the resorts. We had read nothing but good things about the Concierge and we were terribly disappointed.

We stayed in a tent at Ft. Wilderness years ago and heard what we thought was a racoon scratching around our tent. We thought that was really neat until we saw a rat while we walked to the comfort station the next morning! yuck!

okay...i'm a little (well a lot) freaked out now. :earseek: I'm staying the the All-Star Movies in January and I'm hoping you can tell me that this is not mold, bug, or odor infested. If anyone has stayed in the All-Star Movies Resort lately and can let me know what is going on there it will (hopefully) ease my mind. :guilty:

Anything (good or bad) will help. I just want to know what I will be walking (and sleeping) into.

Thanks,
kclyn

i've stayed at all star movies before...a couple years ago. i never noticed any bugs, mold or smells in my room. it does have the disney smell though...kinda beachy...hint of magic...lol...i've seen bugs OUTSIDE of the rooms but never inside, knock on wood! and also, i don't think bugs are a major problem there in january...i don't think it gets too buggy till late feb/early march

Tiffany- Thanks for replying... Actually, we did not notify them. Our housekeepers did not really clean our room. The room we stayed in was never cleaned in fact. The only thing they did would be to make the beds daily. Practically everyday our dirty towels would be left. We had to wait 2 1/2 hours for new towels to be brought to our room one night. So, we figured not to bother them right away with the mold. Thanks again.

Wendi- Thank you for replying! No, it was not the French Quarter...

Thanks,
Brittney

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Did you contact housekeeping regarding any of these issues??? How about when you checked out? Usually the CM checking you out would ask how your stay was. :confused3

Hi,
I would reconmend that when you arrive at your room just check it out. If it is not up to the standards you expect then contact the front desk and ask them to either move you to a room that has been cleaned. It can happen that a room will get marked off in the computer system as being cleaned but for various reason has not been cleaned yet. If you bring it to management attention you should be all set.

Thanks so much for your replies. It helps to know that you've been there and had a good experience. I am definatly NOT a bug person and that really freaks me out. This is my first trip to Disney and I don't want anything to ruin it. :sunny:

Stitchlover07- which hotel was it??

Last september we stayed at POFQ for one night for dd's bday. We got there around 10 am and were thrilled they had our room ready. We simply dropped our things off and headed over to MK. Came back late afternoon to lounge at the pool prior to ADR's at Chef Mickey. I have long hair that takes a long time to dry so I left the kids & dh at the pool and went to the room to shower and get ready. Behind the towel hanging in the shower was soap scum with razor stubble stuck to the shower wall. I found that out because I removed the towel to wrap my hair in. EWWww. We only had 1 1/2 hours to get ready before the ADR so there was no time to have mousekeeping come clean the shower so I used a disposable razor to scrap it off and wiped everything down with lysol wipes(I always have them just in case.) I did call to let mousekeeping know that the room needed a thorough cleaning (there were fruit loops under the table) and I felt that I got a bit of an attitude. We were leaving early am for Universal so I didn't have time to make a big fuss- but it turned me off this hotel.

I also found mold on the hotel emergency disclosure on the back of the door in CSR. I didn't notice it until the morning we were leaving, but I did have several asthma attacks when I was there. I called mousekeeping to advise them that they should clean it for the next people. They seemed appreciative that I didn't make a fuss that time.

kclyn- thanks for replying... My friend stayed there last week and she said that it was clean. I have never personally stayed there. Hope you have a nice trip! Thanks again!

angbatiato- thanks for the comment!

JennSaint- we let them know about the towels, but not about the bug. I figured it just crawled in. Thanks for the reply.

leight- Thanks for the comment. I would rather not disclose the name of the resort so, I do not sway others opinions. I am sorry to hear of your experience. There was mold on the back of our emergency thing on the back of the door also. Thanks agian

THANKS all!!!

I am not sure what the point is to let us know about the hotel, if you will not mention which one it is......

I agree, especially if this is a common occurance at that particular resort. If it is, people should know in advance before booking and spending their money for a room they might not be happy with. Also, if it is a problem that several people are experiencing with the same resort it will be helpful for all of them to contact Disney and let them know its not an isolated incident.

I understand the OPs intention of not to sway, but if a resort has a bad problem with mold/housekeeping, I know I'd want to know about it before I spent my money there!

Sometimes the point is simply to express feelings about what happened. From an internal perspective, it makes sense: Many posters understand that their personal experiences may or may not be indicative. In the case of something as outrageous as the experience the OP described, it is clear that something like that is very rare at WDW, given how many people rave about every single resort. So I would interpret reticence to reveal which resort as a reasonable position a poster would take when they realize that they're relating an experience that is remarkably atypical, and therefore shouldn't influence anyone's decision about which resort to stay at.

It is very unlikely the rat you saw the next morning was the same as was scratching around your tent the night before. Most likely it was an Armadillo scratching around your tent the night before. They are everywhere. One night coming out of the comfort station an armadillo was right outside the door. We startled each other!! :p I don't know who moved quicker!!!

I arrive at Ft. Wilderness tent camping tomorrow night!! Can't wait!!

Hope you have a great time. The rat won't keep us from camping again there. It is a very nice campground but outside in Florida after all.

I vote for "palmetto bug" also. Otherwise known as an American cockroach. They are "peri-domesticated" which means they will come in if the outdoors is uncomfortable for them. They look very similar to the German cockroaches found in northern climes but they are significantly larger. The German ones like living indoors but I believe the palmettos are primarily vegetarian...and thus prefer to dine outdoors. If you saw just one big roach odds are it was a palmetto. With the others you'd probably see more than one...including teeny tiney ones. Palmettos are really big and can glide (people think they are flying) which is how it probably wound up on you while showering.

Word of caution for those traveling through the south... Check your bathroom out thoroughly before showering...check the curtains and look up high on the walls...especially in first floor units. You may find you have company that came in from outside. Spraying is pretty pointless for one bug...it probably won't kill it and you will be dealing with inhaling/ingesting the insecticide for the remainder of your stay. Use hairspray instead...it'll immobolize/slow down the insect when it dries then you can just whack with a shoe or newspaper.

The last few times that we stayed in Disney, the rooms havn't been very clean. In ASM it was mild on shower curtain ( which they changed) and mold in the ice bucket (also changed). Next in PoP it was infested with bugs and huge black spiders (which nothing was done).

The mattress was very bad with springs coming through and had hard time sleeping. Have noticed in the last few years things have been getting worse. I could tell more but don't have the room.

Wow. I didn't realize there was such a difference between the budget resorts and the moderate and deluxe resorts.
