Wow....I would never have guessed that Disney would have a hotel room that was so dirty. Just returned home today and I am extremely disappointed with the room that we had at a Disney resort. (I will not say the name, so I do not sway anyone's opinion of this hotel)
(Normally we love this hotel... and have never had problems before... Disney is extremely clean normally)
Our room had mold EVERYWHERE.... In the shower, on the door, in the sink, on the ceiling. I know your thinking that I'M JUST COMPLAINING.... but I'm serious. I mean, I know its Florida and what can you expect perfection? But, still you would hope that the housekeeping would have done something about it.
The worst experience (with the room) was probably the one I had yesterday. I was going to go take a shower when the nastiest insect ever crawled on me. I was picking up something when all of the sudden I had a huge COCKROACH crawl on my hand. I tried to stomp on it, but I missed and we never found it. :sad2: GROSS!!!!

I hate bugs sooooooo much. I screamed my lungs out when I saw what it was. ick

So, everyone else tell me their gross Disney hotel EXPERIENCES. I am looking forward to reading them and am quite sure there are worse stories.

Thanks for reading,
Stitchluver07

 eeewwww! I don't blame you for being upset. Maybe it's just luck but I've always had a clean room. Did housekeeping do anything about the mold?

Thanks for your reply and for reading! Housekeeping never did anything. Oh well, we had a nice trip regardless.

Thanks agian!

If it was the bad, surely you called Housekeeping and complained. I would have also called about the roach and had them spray the room.

Why would you want to read anyone's gross hotel experiences? It's bad enough your room was this way, but I certainly would not want to hear about others.

There is no way I could have had a nice trip and continued to use a bathroom in that shape on a daily basis.

That big roach was probably a palmetto bug which is really an outside bug so they couldn't have done anything about that. The mold problem would bother me though.

I'm surprised that you're not mentioning the name of the resort. At least complain to Disney about this.

Sammie- Thanks for your reply. I am just curious if anyone has ever had other experiences such as this. Anyhow have a nice day! Thanks agian for the comment.

Planogirl- I am 100% sure it was a cockroach. Thanks for your comment I appreciate it.

2 years ago we stayed at POR Bayou whatever. The campy places. It was not a good experience= something sprayed on the wall, dusty, safe broken, blinds broken, paint peeling. We were shocked. Called housekeeping. They came right away. Replaced the blind that night, fixed the safe that night and moved us the next morning.
If my room had mold all over the place I would have requested a move also. I think Disney is very accomodating.

They are very accomodating when you let them know something is wrong. I just can not believe that management would not been very upset about that much mold and moved the OP or cleaned the room.

I've stayed in many hotels around the country this year traveling for work and almost every one had some mold in the shower. Not that it's excusable but it's common.

Can you say if the hotel was value, moderate or deluxe? Just curious which one it was...

I don't have any dirty hotel stories at a WDW resort....except one room SMELLED really bad. It was at the Boardwalk Inn and I called the front desk and housekeeping and was told that all the rooms over Flying Fish smelled like that and the hotel was full so we couldn't be moved (it was during spring break 2003). They put in some kind of purifier but it didn't clear the smell, at least in the few days that we were there. The room was beautiful, and our location fabulous, but I woke up with headaches because the room smelled so badly and ended up pretty much staying out of it as much as possible, which made it kind of a waste of money to stay there. I have ressies to stay at the Boardwalk Villas again soon, and the only request I have is to have a clean smelling room :rotfl2: Otherwise, I think the resort is fabulous

On these boards, I've since heard of plenty of posters who've stayed over the Flying Fish area without any bad smell problems. Personally, I think we had some smokers in the room before us (there was a full ashtray out on the balcony) and it smelled kind of like cigar mixed with left out old fish, like someone had thrown their leftovers in the garbage...but it was deep in the walls so I really have no idea what it was.

BTW, did you say anything to anyone about the conditions? I think they will remedy things for you the best they can, in most cases.

Aug 2004 we stayed at POFQ- We got there at 1pm our room was not ready which was fine, we left our luggage in storage and headed to the parks and did not return until 10pm. As soon as we got to the room I had to potty, I closed the door, behind it was a toliet paper wrapper and pubic hair b/w the wall and tub where you could step in it. My 1st thought was I should get another room, but we were so sleepy and i thought hk just missed it and will get it tomorrow....no dice! So that afternoon I called hk, they said they would take care of it, did not, I actually made 3 calls including to the front desk and on the day before our last was at the front desk for another question and I told the cm that I had been very nice about this situation and had made 3 calls it had not been cleaned andif I went back to my room that night and it was still there I was going to get crazy on someone! Needless to say it was cleaned. But upon further inspection the sink area had pubic looking hairs behind the sink, too. How gross!!!! I did complain to disney once we got home and they called to apologize and credited me one room night. I was happy then.

ewww...lol do you mind me asking where you stay? j/k

I have never encountered this, I have encountered the bug thing, that's for sure and I thought I was going to DIE! :earseek: Made management come up and spray and I wanted to make sure I saw carcus or I was NOT sleeping in that room that night! Oh I have also found underwear under the bed before, lol I made sure I mentioned it to my dh immediately! lol As far as Disney Resorts, I have had my share of bad mousekeeping, but not mold or anything bad. I should hush up so I don't jinx myself!!

We walked through the GF a couple of weeks ago and swore we'd never spend the money to stay there. It smelled like mildew. I think there are several hotels that are overdue for renovations.

The GF had renovations done in 2000, that's not too long ago.

Everytime we walk through the GF we smell the beautiful flower arrangements that are everywhere.

On the mold issue, however, we have experienced moldy bathrooms at:

The Polynesian
The Grand Floridian
The Wilderness Lodge

Each time we called mousekeeping and they either fixed the problem (ie - cleaned the best they could) or offered to move us. The worst was our room at the Polynesian in 2001. We were in Tahiti and the mold was on the ceiling in the bathroom, plus in the grout in the tub. Mousekeeping did a thorough scrub daily - and they offered to move us, but I was satisfied with the cleaning. At the GF and the WL, mousekeeping cleaned the mold very thoroughly.

In my opinion, mold cannot be completely obliterated in hotel rooms in general. They are moist environments used daily - sometimes 3-4 times daily. Mold is bound to grow. Just inform mousekeeping and they should come in and clean it and if you're not satisfied then the front desk staff should offer you a room change if one is available.

As for the "cockroach" - palmetto bugs and cockroaches look very similar. But you are more likely to come across a palmetto bug in a Florida hotel room - especially if you're on the first floor. JMHO.

To be fair: A Palmetto Bug is a species of cockroach. The distinction is that while cockroaches are often associated with unsanitary conditions, up here in the Northeast, they're part of the natural scenery in Florida. I'd be more concerned about NOT seeing Palmetto Bugs than by seeing them, because anything deadly enough to kill the natural population of Palmetto Bugs is going to be pretty darned harmful to humans. And coincidently, that's pretty-much the case with mold in Florida.

I've stayed in many different chains. Hilton, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Clarion. Almost all had some mold in the grout along the edge of the tub. A couple of weeks ago the Clarion in New York City was pretty bad. I'm there for work, in the room very little and jump in and out of the shower pretty quick. I don't take baths so I don't go near it. The other housekeeping was OK.

Buckalew11- Thanks very much for your reply! Yes, Disney is very accomodating most of the time. It was a busy time to visit, due to Thanksgiving. Thanks again!

DebbieB- Thank you for commenting. I am sure there is a lot of mold in showers.... it doesn't suprise me in Florida, but still. Thanks again!

Ladyhawke10- Thanks for the reply! The hotel we stayed at was a moderate. I know its not expected to be perfect but it is disney. I am very sorry that you had such an experience. We did not alert them on the fact of the bug due to the fact that we checked out shortly after. However, we are going to let them know. Thanks again!

allisonswonderland- Thanks for commenting! Oh dear, that was very gross. I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. Thanks again!

LoriZH- Thanks for commenting. The bug thing was very disgusting, right?... lol at least someone knows how I felt. Thanks!

bdcp- Thanks for replying. Thats not a good smell to smell. lol.

scanne-Thank you for the pictures of the bugs and the reply. I asked my family and they are most definately sure that it was a cockroach. The bugs do look extremely alike however. Sorry about your experience. Thanks

bicker- THANKS for replying!

Once agian thank you all for reading and commenting!

Hi STitchluver07,

You never really answered the question of did you contact housekeeping about the mold issue. I can understand how a resort can put a guest in a room that they are told is clean. But for housekeeping management to be notified of an excess mold problem and not do anything about it or have you moved to another room is totally unacceptable. So, did you contact housekeeping to report the problem?

We just returned from a 7 night stay at POR and there was slight mold in the grout (sp?) but nothing that I have not seen in other places and not enough to upset me. If it was I would have called housekeeping to have it taken care of.

I am getting ready to book our vacation and was just wondering if it was
French Quarter by any chance.

Thanks, Wendi

Tiffany- Thanks for replying... Actually, we did not notify them. Our housekeepers did not really clean our room. The room we stayed in was never cleaned in fact. The only thing they did would be to make the beds daily. Practically everyday our dirty towels would be left. We had to wait 2 1/2 hours for new towels to be brought to our room one night. So, we figured not to bother them right away with the mold. Thanks again.

Wendi- Thank you for replying! No, it was not the French Quarter...

Thanks,
Brittney

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:
