hi all,

hope everyone have a fantastic Christmas.

a while to go baby arrives but got some questions, any help/advice would be great.

  • can you take a child seat on magical express and Disney transport travelling around Disney parks/resorts?
  • how do you sterilise baby bottles in a hotel?
  • what do you think of baby carriers instead of a strollers?
  • can you use you own car seat in an uber?
thanks.

My kids are 18 and 15 now, so it has been awhile, but:

There are no seat belts on Disney transport buses to the parks/resorts. I'm not sure about Magical Express.
I never sterilized a bottle for either of my kids. Just bring dish soap and wash with hot water in the sink in the hotel room.
I used a carrier briefly for DS2, and it was fine. However, I would want a stroller with an infant to have a place to put the diaper bag.

If you plan to use a carseat on the plane, make sure it has the sticker that says it is approved for airline use.

I never sterilized bottles with my 3 children. They don't allow car seats on Disney buses, ME or resort buses.

The Minnie vans have car seats don’t they? I liked my Ergo but honestly I can’t imagine replacing a stroller with a carrier for full days at the parks.
Medela makes bags you can sanitize pacifiers and bottles with if you really need to but like others said hot water and soap are fine.

I sterilized my son’s bottles until he was 6 months, but you’re going to have a hard time doing so in a hotel room that doesn’t have a microwave. The best you’ll probably be able to do is hot water.

Child seats are not permitted on Disney transport. You can store your child seat under the bus for the ride from the airport to the hotel.

I’d want a stroller in addition to a carrier, particularly if traveling between April-October. You’ll both likely get too hot otherwise, and it’s nice to have a place to put your stuff.

Personally I'd bring a stroller to use as backup to the ergo, especially if you end up with a tank of a kid (like mine).

IF nursing is in the cards, remember to stay hydrated, if it's possible to nurse that would reduce the amount of bottles you'd need with you, if it's not possible I'd actually have the bottles shipped locally if possible. The parks do have baby care centers that offer:

  • Private nursing room with rocking chairs
  • Changing room with tables and a unisex bathroom
  • Feeding area with highchairs
  • Kitchen with microwave, oven and sink
  • Main room with television, table, chairs and sofa
  • On-site shop offering formula, baby food, juice, diapers, wipes, sunscreen, over-the-counter medications and clothing for purchase?

Look into Amazon prime delivering diapers/wipes/formula (if you're using formula) and other items so you don't have to fly with those essentially taking up one suitcase.

At that age my daughter was still using her travel system car seat that locked right into the stroller and a lot of the Disney restaurants don't have the style of highchair that a carseat will fit into.

Hi Sponica

So we where thinking of getting a travel system stroller which has the wheeled part which then car seat, basket etc etc click into. But I'm told no car seats on any Disney transport, so that idea is a bust, except minne van, but I'm not that rich.

Amazon is a great idea. So we live in the UK and have a UK Amazon account. But you can still buy from Amazon USA and still have items delived to resort, which is very helpful. What's the rules of having things delived to resort. One assumes you need to call the resort and give them advance warning?

Hi

We have a company called Milton in the UK and UK hospitals use there products which is reassuring. They have tablets that you dissolve in water put in the bottle, dummies, etc. 15mins later everything is good to go and is good for 24hours. So I was thinking of getting these. Rather than microwave angle?

I think as long as it's labeled with the resort name and stay dates you should be ok. They'll hold the packages for you at the front desk, but anything that gets processed through the mail system costs 5 dollars a box. If you have PrimeNow you can even set up the delivery the moment you land and it goes to bell services, and it seems to be luck of the draw as to whether you get charged a delivery fee that way.

I know on the magical express you would have to stow the stroller/infant seat under the bus. I know I've read posts about people using infant seats, but maybe they used cars. With an infant, I can totally see the advantage to having a car accessible in order to use the travel system easily. A good stroller will recline fully to allow infants to use it without the infant seat attachment.

I agree with this. We only ever used a stroller without the carseat attachment.

OP - maybe rent a stroller from an offsite vendor rather than bringing or buying one? And unless you will need a carseat for transportation, I'd leave that at home as well. Baby could get overheated in a carseat whereas a stroller isn't quite as snugly-tight allowing for more air movement. As for transportation options, it sounds like you plan to use WDW buses, so you'll want something that collapses easily. Minnie Vans provide a carseat, so if you need a different mode of transportation once or twice that will work.

I'm not at all familiar with such tablets, but if they are manufactured and sold for you at home it sounds simple enough to buy a supply for traveling. You'll have to bring them as I don't know that anything similar is available in the U.S. Speak with your baby's doctor about it if you are unsure.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you for your advice. Happy New year.

Hi

Generally the vibe is don't go with the baby carrier. Especially if it's super hot. We only just got back from our November 2018 trip and it was in the upper 80s so very warm unusually hot for November but I didn't complain.

1. No child seats allowed on buses. However since buses are high up from the ground seat belts and child car seats aren't required for safety. You could always rent a car if you really want to use a car seat. We did that twice. It's a real pain bringing the car seat through the airport and then installing it into the rental car, but it is possible. I've never used an uber so not sure about that.
2. Sterilizing isn't necessary for a healthy child, but if you want to sterilize you could buy a sterilizing device and have it shipped to your resort. This would be expensive though. I would just bring dish soap and wash in the sink.
3.No way would I bring a baby carrier instead of stroller. My kids and I hated the carrier. Even if you like carriers you probably won't want to wear the baby all day long. I would definitely bring a stroller. And since the baby is so young I'd bring the infant car seat, assuming it's one that snaps into the stroller. I think I would bring the car seat, stroller, and get a rental car. And I would get the baby its own seat on the plane and strap the car seat into the plane seat.

Around 2 -3 months
Sorry if this is unwanted advice, but my advice would be to postpone the trip until the baby is a little older. Is the mom going on the trip? If so I'd imagine she'd have a difficult time walking around Disney World all day and being comfortable at 2-3 months. With each of my pregnancies it took me 3 months to feel like myself again. Before that I was mostly stuck at home recovering and taking care of the baby, plus I had many doctor's appointments due to frequent infections post childbirth. The baby would also have to be healthy and fit to travel. It seems like a risky time to schedule a trip. You will also be exposing newborn baby to a lot of germs, and you will be spending most of the day feeding the baby, which can take a long time depending on the baby. Sorry to be a downer. I don't know if you have other kids, or how far away you would be coming from, but it just seems like a risky and difficult time to plan a Disney trip.

I’m a baby wearer and have worn all three of mine year-round, on the gulf coast in Texas. I take both a stroller and a couple of carriers to Disney. You do need to watch that the baby doesn’t get overheated, but I use the carrier a ton. I would never go without a stroller too, though.
