Disney Gift Card Deals

Hi all! I tried to be a good board-er and go back and read as many recent pages in this topic as I could but frankly I'm getting a headache! Basically, I received a coupon in the mail for an extra 5% off an order, no limits other than the usual disclaimer about gift cards. Has anyone successfully stacked this coupon with their redcard? Thanks for indulging me - BFF booked a spontaneous first-time trip for her little girls today and I'm trying to help her in any way I can but I've been away from the boards for a while!

I have not had Target coupons work on GC's in years. But easy to try it so might as well!

I know there has been a lot of new faces to this thread (myself included), but its never been a secret, and I think savers on many other types of sites have been doing this for years too. I doubt if the actual uptick (from just the last few months, I'm sure it is from 5 years ago) is that big. I've always known about this (RC discount on Disney), but 5% just didn't seem like that much if I was spending just my own vacation funds for a one-time discount. It wasn't until I connected the whole churning aspect and realized that I could get 5% over and over again + $500 in ebucks a couple times a year (which I also never realized) with basically no extra money, that I decided it was worth it. I remember people saving with the pharmacy coupon, but we never had a reason to get prescriptions back then.

That is EXACTLY what I am saying. The 5% is well known and has been for years. But many felt that was a pretty puny discount and didn't bother. Then came the reseller sites and then to Target saving about 10-15%, also well known but buying from those reseller sites scared many off. The deal involving the 'churning' is what I am saying is pretty new to most. Many are so amazed by the savings, they are sharing it all over the internet as well as anybody who will listen IRL. I absolutely believe there has been an uptick in the numbers of people who are churning. And b/c we are running the same money through Target over and over, it maybe raised some eyebrows.

How do you know they were losing money?
Well, that's what I'm wondering. If so many more people are ordering them then there were before, that's a lot of sales they may not get otherwise. As I, and others have said, people may not get their cards at target anymore without the discount. So taking away the 5% disc seems like they'd end up losing many sales they could have made, doesn't make sense that if they take the disc away, they won't be losing money anymore. Plus, really, how could they not have known about the 5% disc with target gc's people were buying? The evidence is all in your online account all spelled out, so how could the accounting people not be aware when balancing all the books?

Plus the retail cost of selling physical gift cards will eat a lot of that 5%. The store, the employees, etc may be covered by the other items in the store, but distribution, stocking, and inventory costs are going to be much higher than online sales of an electronic gift card with no physical inventory or distribution costs.

ETA - but we will never know. Time will tell if this is permanent or a 'glitch'. Until the T&C for the red card change to exclude non-Target gift cards, I am calling this a 'glitch'.

@StuckInKS Long story short, if the identifiers on the RC are the same as a Target GC, it would be very difficult to turn off the discounts on just the GC's.

I think what has people here confused is that you are trying to solve a mystery that doesn't exist. We have never been able to get a discount on a Target GC at Target. The 5% we are referring to are discounts on entertainment or specialty cards, such as Disney, eBay, or Southwest. The RC numbers and Target GC numbers have absolutely nothing to do with the discounts.

I need some advice, especially since I've had some family crises over the weekend and my thinking isn't very clear for this right now. :worried: I have $900 in Target right now and $1200 that hasn't shipped yet. That is all my churning funds, I currently don't have any in ebay. I need $650 in Disney by May 18. What would you do? My plan is to go to Target tomorrow and buy the $650 I need. Is there any reason I shouldn't convert the remaining $250(and any of the other target cards that may be delivered) into ebay incase another extra bucks promo happens? I realize I won't get the 5% off target.com for buying ebay but is there ant other reason I shouldn't? ? Thanks for any help. Its been a rough few days.

Sorry to hear about your family crises

Anyway, that is what I would do. Get your $650 and convert the rest for an ebucks promo.

I too need to get my funds converted by the 18th (all $4K+ I still have left in Target/Ebay), but am thinking about holding out until the first week of May to see if I can jump on an ebucks promo. As long as the Target GC to GC thing holds, I'll be OK.

Sorry about the family crisis.... I think you should convert what you need now and wait on the rest until you have time to think it through.

I think what she is saying is if the first 4 digits is the same on the Target red card and the Target gift cards, Target wouldn't be able to distinguish whether you're paying with the Target red card or the gift card, thus still giving you the 5% red card discount even though you're buying the Disney gift card with a Target gift card. I could be totally wrong but I think that's what she's getting at. Kind of how websites know you used an Amex based on the first 4 digits of your card or a MasterCard or Visa. The first 4 digits distinguishes what type of card it is. So I think what she's saying is that if it can't distinguish between the Target red card or a Target gift card, it would be difficult to take the 5% discount away from one and not the other. Not sure if that's how it really works but I believe that is what she's saying. :)

Oh, I apologize!

Anyone ever try to use a Michaels gc to buy a gc at their store? Mine carries Disney and I saw that PPDG has 20% off Michaels.

Well that would certainly explain why you still get the discount when paying with a GC online, but from what I can tell they have different numbers.

I asked my husband this the other day. He works at Michael's and said that in no way will they allow it. They are very strict about it.

Still no ebucks promo, but I did get a note to say that there are some gc on ebay being discounted, some as much as 20%. Not Target, DIsney, Staples or GS, of course, but you might find something that interests you. Some of them are PPGC and some are SVM, so you don't have to worry about a seller not coming thru.

Ignore the following line - I was not signed into my account
I did notice on thing - I see NO mention of ebucks. http://www.ebay.com/rpp/gift-cards/Gift-Card-Promotions?rmvSB=true&_pgn=2
