Who we are:
Mom (46) - gets crazy ideas to sew insane dresses before Disney trips.
Dad (48) - Working hard to get under the weight limit for Wild Africa Trek.
Oldest (12) - Irish stepper extraordinaire! Probably last year to do BB and wear costumes in the parks!
Youngest (10) - Sassy with a shellfish allergy.
Last time we went we opted for September for the lower crowds but found that the crowds were INSANE and also the heat was trying to kill us, so haha, why July?
My oldest is going to compete in the Irish Step Nationals taking place in Orlando over July 4th. We've never been to Disney in the summer so we're already dreading the heat and possible crazy crowds on the 4th. I know NOTHING about this month in Disney and have been scouring the board. Is it likely we'd be shut out of fireworks on the 4th if we aren't at the park all day? Do they also do the same fireworks show on the 3rd? Will we even be allowed to go to the parks since they won't want her legs to be tired for the days we dance??
It's gonna be a real interesting trip. So far we're scheduled for leaving on June 30th and coming back on July 7th, staying at Old Key West since it's the closest resort to where the dancing will happen and as DVC members we've never stayed there so thought, why not?
We plan to surprise them later with the December trip, which is longer and during a time we're more used to the temps--it's hot for us but not too bad! So far staying a week in a 1 bedroom at the Grand Floridian, and hoping to snag a couple of days beforehand at the Beach Club, where they've never stayed. Of course, the only days we're looking at are the ones that are totally booked so far so, here's hoping a waitlist comes through!
Normally we are pretty free with eating/buying things/special events, but with college tuition eventually looming we're actually trying to stick to a budget. But why then, are you going to Disney twice in one year? You ask.
We had already planned on our usual trip in December (we tend to go every two years due to DVC points) and then Nationals this year happened, my daughter qualifies, and it's in Orlando. At first we fooled ourselves to be like 'well we can use some DVC points and stay at a hotel but we just won't go to the parks, it's fine' but came to the realization that's never going to happen since we are RIGHT THERE.
So we're trying to treat the July visit as kind of low key. Maybe one character meal at the Crystal Palace (the place that got my husband to fall in love with Disney), but otherwise breakfasts/lunches in the room and Disney Spring for dinner (we assume that a lot of the dancers are going to want to go out together and we're not getting out of there without Raglan Road).
Does that back load all the spending for the December trip right before Christmas? Welllllll....yes. But at least it gives us time to save!
On the list is BBB, wild Africa trek, Cinderella's Royal Table, Garden View Tea Room, and if we end up staying at BC, a breakfast at Cape May (too seafoody for lunch/dinner).
