Disney Gift Card Deals

I'm the only one with an AP for my group although I could have gotten one for DD- I just didn't plan that well.
However my one AP has gotten me in 2016 3 memory makers, 3 trip park admissions, $500 AP discount on my CR stay - there were no other discounts available, and the park discounts not to mention fun stuff like the AP food & wine and flower & garden gifts which I love. After paying the $680 renewal I got back roughly $1770 in product so the one is way worth it.

What I figured was I will renew my AP at $680 with the 10% off target discount cards for oop $612. I'd love to use one of those tix for upgrade however won't be there In person for the renewal period. but it's more lucrative to renew the AP at that rate using discounted gc for about 25% off the rack AP rate.

I will buy 3 of these discounted tix for a savings of $250ish with cash from my vacay fund with plans to use them next fall as we are only planning one trip as a family. If an impromptu trip comes up I can upgrade these ticket for APs for the rest of my family when there utilizing discounted gc's for the difference and getting that face value savings.

This way im maintaining that great renewal discount which is superior to upgrading To a new AP as I've found one AP discounts for a group can be very lucrative. But still have a chance to get additional annual passes for the rest of my family if our vacation plans change.

That sounds great, you have really thought it through! Planning really is key with Disney. We are DVC members - so maybe the renewal discount isn't as much. We did renew last year, but for us with trying to think waaaay ahead if I buy new AP's to activate 3/2/17 I will be able to use them the following March 2018 since I am getting the extra month. That is the key factor for me as far as buying new vs. renewing. I don't use the AP hotel discounts since we are staying on points. But, do love the shopping and dining discounts especially since they are now increased. For us its only $88 cheaper to renew vs buy a new AP. Two of our kids currently have AP's but I am not renewing our buying new for them after theirs expire in the next few months. I only bought for them because I knew we would be going twice with them within 12 months - which doesn't always happen( they aren't going with us in March - that is our adult only trip ;)
. I still have MYW tickets that I bought back when there was a 20% discount from Orbitz that I will use for them on their next visit after this one.

Target announced its holiday plans today.
First - they will be selling Target gift cards for 10% off on Dec. 4...

I apologize if this known information, but can a Target gift card be used to purchase a Disney gift card? And, can I use my red card to buy the Target gift cards for a total of 15% off?

Sorry @MinMou, I didn't mean to quote my own message!

A Target gc currently can be used to purchase a Disney gift card in store only. Their system allows it, although you may run into a cashier or manager that seems to think this isn't allowed. If your store has it, going through self-checkout eliminates this possibility. There is no longer any way to piggyback your Red card discount when purchasing Disney cards with Target GCs.

You do not receive a 5% discount with your Red card when purchasing Target GCs, so no, you couldn't get 15%.

DVC APs are def cheaper but I think you're right that the renewal discount isn't as good. I'm trying to cut back our trips in favor of doing other vacations so encouraging more for us via APs is probably not a great idea!!!! Regular renewal is $121 off for the platinum pass. There is an alternate fiscal scenario I came up with that would save me about $80 more but it isn't worth the risk if it doesn't happen that way - highly unlikely it will- which is a $121 loss so I'm sticking with buying 3 tix for the fam and renewing that AP although I think it's a scam they won't let you upgrade tickets purchased through third parties over the phone.

I know what you mean. Two years ago I upgraded MYW ticket for my son to an AP and we ended up needing to change our trip by a month - so that wasted the extra $100 or so I paid to upgrade it. That's one of the reasons I am only buying AP's for my DH and I. We don't have any other vacation plans other than disney for now - so for us its worth while. I didn't even find out until recently that I could use a MYW ticket towards a renewal in person. I never would have thought of that if I hadn't read it on the board. I don't know why it is different in person vs. over the phone. But, since I have a "few" tickets I am just happy that it works out for us to be able to buy in person.

I am SO glad you posted this, because you reminded me that we will be away that day too. :faint: Wondering if I can buy these online this year?
I remember a deal from last year where you could buy discounted Target gift cards from Target online. The details are fuzzy but I do remember it was 10% off, during the Holiday season, limit of $300, we purchased it online and the code was only good once. We sent it to an email address that Target couldn't deliver to so we had to resubmit and Target said we already used the offer, we resubmitted under another family member's name and then we could use it. If this is that deal it was usable online but be careful to use an email address from a major provider. Their egift card delivery system is crap.
ETA: limit last year was $300 per other posters

I recall being able to order 3 of the discounted $100 cards online, if my memory serves me correctly. I'm fairly certain I used my Target account to order 3 and created a new account for my husband for another 3. We were each able to purchase 3 in store also.

It took a week, but my AMEX Home Depot offer finally credited! They also credited me for a second time on the same cell phone bill charge (10% offer)...

Not a deal, but I got a Target gift card as a birthday gift a few weeks ago and I'm tempted to go turn it into a Disney gift card...

Has anyone bought gift cards from Sam's Club with a Discover Card? On their website it says gift cards are an exception but I'm curious if anyone has gotten the 5% back.
Would like to know too - I just bought a Sams membership on Groupon specifically for this deal.

Are you talking about going through Discover Deals? If so, I think gift cards are excluded. However, Sams is one of the 5% categories for the current quarter, so you can get 5% back on any purchase at Sams this quarter, including online. There is no exclusion for gift cards mentioned. The only exclusion mentioned is for gas, so I would fully expect to receive the 5% for gift card purchases. Chase Freedom also has warehouses (Sams included) again this quarter in their 5% deal and I know theirs includes gift cards (bought a bunch last quarter for a late September trip).

Can anyone comment on using GC to purchase convention rate tickets? We are attending a convention (not DD) at DL and the convention ticket site only looks like it accepts disney rewards cards and cc. Can I just call and they'll issue the tickets?

We bought convention tickets for WDW using GC's in 2015. Did it all over the phone.

Thank you so much! I'm sitting on a $1000 GC to pay for tickets and almost died when there was no way to enter it. And of course I did it at night when I couldn't call and figure it out :)

I hope it works out for you! We just called the group reservations line. They did our hotel and tickets both and were able to accept GC's as payment.
