Disney for plus size?????

For the flight, will you be sitting with a family member? If so...you'll be fine as you can simply put the armrest up between you. I often have my dd sit next to me since she is so tiny- thus giving me a bit more space. When I travel with just my husband, we squish against each other....but it's just against my husband so I don't really worry about it. BTW- I will often discretly ask for a seatbelt extension from the flight attendant standing at the back of the plane. They are very discrete, but I have also observed that noone much seems to care or be paying attention to my request (except the flight attendant to passes it to me). As for the tray, I will often just not use it or put a drink on my husbands/dd's tray (or use the middle seat's tray if it is empty) to avoid that "tight" feeling in front of me.

When you go online to choose your seats, look for seats towards the back of the plane and if it isn't too full (you can choose your tickets on some flights within 24 hours) choose a window and an aisle with the middle seat empty. If it get's filled at the last minute, you can always offer to hve one of you move over from the window to the middle, giving the stranger the window seat (They'll jump at it!). I suppose you could do the same thing on SWA, when you board...just choose the window/aisle combo...if the flight isn't full- noone else will choose the "tight" seats.

You are absolutley right about the exstension to teh seat belt. I took a trip and on the the first flight forced myself in without it. Then on the next leg asked for one and it was heaven! I wish I could say I won;t need it this time but alas I do.

I am so glad to hear that so many 'pooh' sized people have had little to no issues with the rides. I have been anxious and my skinny husband has been anxious for me too because he wants me to be able to ride with him! It won;t be long now :yay:

We're leaving in 2 days... Oh my god it's so exciting, I think I'm more excited than my kids... YIKES!!! So I've got the tickets to the parks, clothes, money, a mister for the hot weather and a hat. I'm set right... OH MY GOD!!! SO EXCITING... Any new reports for plus size???

This year I'm a bit concerned about EE, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm Pooh sized, size 22W to be exact. I had no problems riding EE.

I've already lost some weight and hoping to lose a lot more before our next trip. I am glad, even when I was heavier, I could go to WDW and not have problems fitting into things.

You're going to have a great trip Violets by da Marina! :cheer2:

2 days?!! Yeah!!

To follow up, we did not have any problems on EE or anything else for that matter. I love Disney for that and so many other reasons! Our tightest fit was definitely the plane ride there.

Have a GREAT time!

How was the plane ride? That's what i'm scared of most. Not that i'm afraid of flying, but that they'd ask me to buy another seat. I want to spend my money at disney, not anther 5-600$ on the flight... Yikes... So that's what's on my mind most... I have two kids that are small and will sit next to me so I can move the arm wrest up, but it's just the uncertainty of it... Any info on that???
:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I'm 5'6", about 250, and never even had the suggestion of having to buy another seat on a plane- and most of my weight is in my hips and rear. My DH was over 350 at his heaviest and never had to get a second seat.As long as the armrest can stay down you will be fine.

I've never had problems fitting on rides either- not even E:E.

Please do not worry! Everything is going to be great and you won't have any problems on the plane. We had all three seats, put the arm rests up and got cozy with each other. My DH was very paranoid about the whole thing and it was no problem at all. :)

DH and I were Pooh sized in '01 and are even more so now. We did not have any problems during that trip and had a great time! This year I'm a bit concerned about EE, but we'll just have to wait and see.

There has been much discussion about larger-sized adults "fitting" into Expedition Everest seats.

Back in late January of this year, EE previewed to the public for the first time (limited to AP holders and DVC guests).

At that time, the lap-bar restraints had only "one click" to lock into position, and that one position was very low and VERY SNUG into the lap.

Many Pooh-sizers had trouble getting the bar to lock into position and some had to try to lock the bar first, then attempt to "slither" down into the seat with that bar pressing hard into their mid-sections.

I was THERE at that time (late Jan. '06), rode EE several times, and personally witnessed how the lap-bars worked and how the guests had to maneuver themselves to fit in the cars.

Since that preview there have been lots of questions as to whether Disney had made further adjustments to the restraint system.
But nobody seemed to be able to say FOR SURE that there had actually been any physical changes made.

WELL, GOOD NEWS:

I just returned on May 24, 2006 from 8 days at WDW and can say without question that:

YES, they DID change the restraint system!
There are now MANY lock-position "clicks" on that lap-bar and it can be considered LOCKED at a much "wider and roomier" position than the first timers experienced.

So, EE is now VERY FRIENDLY to Pooh-sized guests... even quite large and tall.

I wanted everyone to know that from someone who experienced the "before" and "after" of the EE restraints.

This means EE joins the other attractions at WDW that are accommodating to adults of virtually any size!

(Except I wouldn't want to try to fit more than ONE big guy at a time in one of those darn TEACUPS!) :goodvibes

Hey Violets by da marina: Pooh sized is no problem at WDW. I am pretty Pooh sized myself and have never had a problem riding a ride there...getting OUT of the ride is sometimes another thing! I'm not exactly limber! :rotfl2: Anyhow, if you don't feel comfortable with the plane ride just remember you can ask for a seat belt extender from the attendent when you board the plane. I didn't know that last time and it was a tight squeeze getting that bugger closed I tell you! :rotfl: I am hoping to lose a few pounds by October but I haven't had much luck. Anyway, HAVE A GREAT TIME! Helen

I am an ex-plus size woman. I have never had a problem in Disney on any ride but this past June I did Space Mountain. I could not believe how tight a fit that ride was!! I know I would not have fitted into that seat before and wondered how I did it before. As we were leaving the ride I was talking to may family and they reminded me that I was always placed in the front seat. So relax and enjoy yourself. You will fit! If you do space Mountain, they will place you in the front seat.

Thank you all for your words. You have set my mind at ease. It's very comforting to hear all what you've said regarding plus size. I'm off tomorrow and will be enjoying disney world finally!!! Again, thank you for all your words, i'll let you guys know how it went and what I fit my big xxxx into and what didn't fit. ha ha ha :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl:
Wish me well, and sincerely thanks!!! ;)

As another pooh sized gal, I know you will have a wonderful time! ::yes::
Be sure to let us know how your trip goes! : :thumbsup2

One more wish for a great trip from a Pooh-sized gal and her Baloo sized DH. I'm 5' 9" and amply padded, size 22W. He's 6'3" and weighs in right at 300lbs. Occaisionally he feels a little short on leg room, but we've never had a problem fitting on a single ride at WDW.

I use to be pooh sized and the only one I had a bit of trouble with is getting into the teacups and that was a matter of just lifting and squeezing sideways..lol The walking was hard on me too but I have lost 70 pounds with 12 more to go!! So this year all the walking wont be so hard on me..

Have fun!! I'm looking forward to hearing all about your trip! My biggest concern is the plane also...although I was okay last year and this year I am 36 pounds lighter. I have nightmares about being asked to buy another seat!! It's that reality show on A&E "Airline" about SWA. I saw an episode where they asked a lady to buy another!!! And here I am flying SWA!

I am very Pooh-sized (5'10, 270 lbs) and have never had any problems at all with any rides at Disney. We rode everything and the only rides we encountered any problems whatsoever were Primevil Whirl and Kali River Rapids. On Primevil Whirl, me and my dfriend (also Pooh-sized) were placed on the same side of the ride vehicle and were very much squished. This was fixed the next time by asking the CM to place us in a vehicle by ourselves... no problem. On Kali River Rapids, we had the same basic problem, sitting together the belt would not fasten but we moved to separate seats and it was great! Have a magic time!! :sunny:

i'm formerly plus-sized now, but in 2003 i was well over 300 lbs, and had little trouble at wdw-i even managed to squeeze into the seat at space mountain. the only ride i remember having trouble with was the haunted mansion. the bar came down, but wouldn't lock b/c of my tummy.

A big congratulations - 200lbs lost, that must take real will power. I need to lose only 10lbs but I'm having trouble with that. Well done you, you must be so proud of yourself.

OK, we're ready to hear all about your trip now!!!

OH MY GOD!!! It is so wonderfull there... We had so much fun... The parks are so amazing, the rides are awsome! They go way out for everything it's amazing!!! The rides were all ok for me, the only one I had a problem with was at universal studios the jimmy neutron one. That one, nope, not for my size. But the rest were all ok. Some a little snug, but ok. The plane ride was ok, I sat with my 5 year old and they didn't tell me or ask any questions. The seat belt worked on the way over, but I think it shrank or I got on a smaller plane on the way back ha ha ha :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: but not a problem, just asked for the extension and I was ready to fly... Words realy can't describe our trip, it was just so amazing... The princesses and characters are so pretty and it just fills you up with excitement to see them. And then you see Mickey... WOW... I was like that kid in the commercials, "i've been waiting my whole life to see you..." I think I was more excited than my kids... I loved it. And all the tips I got from this website are so true and very helpful. Though one more from me is don't pack too much clothes. With all the stuff we bought, I winded up buying an extra bag a wal mart for my stuff. If you know your gonna buy t shirts there, don't pack that many then... I can say I didn't use half the clothes I packed.
I'm still in awe and it's been 5 days since I was there... AMAZING!!!
:thumbsup2 :sunny: :thumbsup2 :sunny: :thumbsup2
