Disney eliminates outside vendor drop off/pickup services. Must meet vendor for drop off/pickup (mobility devices only so far it seems)

I am curious to see how many people are booking rentals this weekend and Monday to be grandfathered in.

Technically if you think about it, people can make up reservations and change dates with the company at a later date. Reservation was made prior to Oct 1 just a change was made.

So, I am not 100% sold yet on this being a storage problem. With tons of reservations and possibly "fake" reservations being made this weekend, I would imagine bell services will be taking care of this WELL into next year.

Liability issue? Maybe I can see that.

Disney making a partnership deal with one company so they have exclusive rights? I see that more as the real reason.

Does anyone have a definitve answer on who will be the single ECV provider that can utilize bell services?
Rumor is scooterbug, they currently handle Disneys rentals in the parks and Disney Springs.

Buena Vista is the other possibility. They are the concessionaire handling bike rentals at Boardwalk.
They could be running it under Disneys name.

Scooterbug has been providing ECV's to the Disney parks for a while now.

This is why I am thinking this is more of a "financial deal" made between Disney and scooterbug than any other reason.

I mean bell services has been storing scooters and strollers for years and years and years and NOW all of a sudden NO we cant do that anymore? Smells fishy to me.

I stand by everything I said in my big long rant. I'm sorry if it upset some people. None of what I said was meant in any way as a personal attack towards anyone on these boards. If you love WDW and plan on continuing to go, that's great! I hope that you and your family have a truly wonderful time. I do.

But if Disney wants to know why their park attendance is dropping? Adding in policy changes like this certainly doesn't help. Is this policy change going to make a major dent in crowd levels? Probably not. But maybe if you were planning on maybe going on that one epic multi-generational trip with your kids & the grandparents, maybe this on top of all of the other logistics might send you looking at non-Disney vacation destinations instead.

What one might not realize is that this might not make any difference to the Disney super-fan like us. The super-fan who's drunk the Kool-aid, who will continue going back year after year regardless.

What Disney is going to lose is the non-super fan. The average tourist. Which, honestly, constitutes far more of the available travel/vacation market than Disney super fans. Bob Chapek and Bob Iger just haven't realized it yet. Wall Street knows it, but the Disney board of directors hasn't pulled their heads up for air on it yet.

In last week's DIS Unplugged podcast, Pete Werner was spot on. Enough is enough.

If you make scooterbug the exclusive provider-Disney will in effect own scooterbug.

I promise you that the average Disney guest isn’t utilizing bell services to hold their scooter, stroller and groceries. They probably don’t even know those things are even possible.

I doubt if this is a blip on the radar or the average fan. Having to coordinate a scooter pick up? Not a big deal. The average guest probably doesn't realize they would hold them for you.

But if you travel periodically and need a wheelchair or ECV or if you travel with someone who does, then this WOULD be a factor for you. You WOULD have encountered hotels/motels who will hold them for you. This isn't exclusively a Disney thing.

If you've never needed one and never traveled with someone who needs one, then of course it wouldn't even be a blip on your radar.

since i have to do it for the wife-it is a big deal. She has trouble walking even short distances. and i bet just about all scooter renters use the bell service to hold their scooter and drop off when leaving.

I booked our stroller for next spring earlier today! Hoping for being grandfathered in, we had to order it eventually anyways so why not today.

Sure, but flights get delayed, traffic happens, the magical express waits longer than you anticipated, etc. I always get my stroller delivered on our arrival day, and if I'm staying at a spread out resort I like to have it waiting at bell services so I can pick it up on the way to the room instead of having to haul my kid and my luggage all the way to my room then come all the way back to get it at a designated time. That way we're all set and ready to go the moment we arrive.

I started travelling with my kids solo when they were 2 & 3 years old. This was before they had ME and I had to get a private towncar. I somehow managed to travel with 2 toddlers, luggage and stroller and was able to get the the resort, go to the parks, feed them, bathe them, etc, etc, etc. I can't imagine what has changed so much on the planet that doing so is impossible for parents now without everyone catering to them. Kids are hard, life is hard. You do what you need to do and if you can't then you stay home. Simple. Sorry if this comes off as rude but it is a bit insulting to other parents that some people act as if having a child is some kind of disability that others have to make all of these accommodations for you. People should be meeting the vendors when they drop off their ECV or stroller. You should make sure that it is working properly and that they can show you how to use the items. No one should expect a business to be a go between for you and another company. Do you go into Target to buy a few things and expect them to accept and hold a delivery from Walmart for you because you don't want to make 2 stops?

I’ve been going to Disney so long that we predate the stroller rental places. We somehow managed to get our own stroller to Disney and use it for our boys. Yes, picking one up from bell services would’ve been much easier, but we managed just fine.

Same with a scooter. I remember when you might see 1 or 2 scooters on your whole trip. There were still disabled and elderly people there. I guess they either rented a mobility device from Disney, brought their own or maybe just used a wheelchair.

There are other options. Maybe not as convenient as utilizing bell services for all your rentals, but people did travel to Disney before stroller and scooter rental places were so popular.

Most people will adjust just fine. I’m fresh outta medals for all the people who didn’t utilize this service in the past and thrived. Sorry ;).

It’s human nature to be annoyed with negative change even if it doesn’t make things impossible.

We brought our own stroller our first trip and always carry our own luggage. No one said it’s impossible to do so. But seriously, the argument, “ I didn’t need the help so no one should” is pretty self-centered, never mind “if you can’t do it stay home”. Seriously? Who are you to tell people with different abilities that they should stay home?

WOW! I am going to see if I can still book what I need for December before 10/1. This is craziness. Taking yet another thing away from onsite guests. I would have gladly paid for this added convenience rather than it being completely stripped away. I will be voicing my displeasure to guest relations!
This also brings up an ADA issue as well. Especially if someone needs a wheelchair or ECV.

I do not think it is an ADA violation. ADA requires Disney to provide equal access for people with disabilities not ECVs. If Disney denied you access to the hotel when using your own ECV that would be a violation of ADA.
All Disney is doing is requiring the person renting the ECV or stroller from a private company to take responsibility for it when it is delivered and returned.
