Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Just read the following in my AllEars Weekly Newsletter and thought maybe some of you would like to know:

"from Deb Wills aboard the Disney Dream: There is a new minimum height requirement for single riders on the AquaDuck -- if riding solo, you must be at least 54 inches tall. Also, it's worth noting that the cabin doors for concierge staterooms are not magnetic."

Hope everyone stays safe and warm!

Home today from school again due to snow/ice. On the news last night I heard these are the coldest temps we have had in the DFW metroplex in 15 years. We are expecting to be in the single digits again tonight -- that will be the first time in 22 years we have had two days in a row of single digit temps. I am a life-long Texan and I do NOT like the cold.

It has been really interesting to watch the Super Bowl coverage. We live about 20 minutes from Cowboys Stadium. (Tracy51 -- how close are you?) It was funny to watch the "Breaking News" on tv yesterday as the Packers and Steelers charter buses were being escorted to the stadium by their own sand trucks for a media event. Apparently one of the pre-Super Bowl special event parties also had to be canceled because the featured performers (The Village People!) were not able to make it into the metroplex.

June can't get here fast enough!

The kids had snow day #1 here. We can only have 5 before they will start missing school to go on our trip. Last year, we had 5, but most were in Dec and Jan last year. Everyone stay warm and safe.

We live in South Arlington, down by I-20 & the lake so 15-20 minutes depending on which route and traffic. Like a fool I went into work yesterday - and today - so I missed seeing the buses being escorted to the stadium. I'm wondering how the "rolling blackouts" are effecting things for the Super Bowl. Although I'm sure the stadium & hotels aren't getting their power turned off for 15-45 minutes;) I've been wondering how the weather is affecting their practices. I work in Ft Worth, not far from TCU which is where I heard the Steelers would be practicing and the roads are horrible still.

I am so ready for this COLD to be over with. My husband teases me that I'm solar powered. This single digit temp nonesense is driving me crazy. I feel like I'm never going to get warm!

I heard that they had requested an exemption from the rolling blackouts for the Dallas Convention Center since that is where the "NFL Experience" is supposed to take place today. Hadn't heard about the hotels & stadiums -- but I would imagine that they do rank a little higher up than the rest of us. My parents are in Denton and have already had two outages this morning. So far we haven't lost power in the mid-cities.

I know this must sound so strange to all of you have who have been (literally) buried in snow for the last month -- but us Texans are just not prepared to stay below freezing for 4 days in a row. (They predict we will hit 34 by Friday afternoon.) The biggest problem is that we don't really get snow or sleet. We get rain that is suddenly followed by freezing temps and then we end up with solid sheets of ice.

I hope everyone is staying safe and warm no matter what elements you may be battling.

We had our first snow day today, think we'll be safe for making up, since its already Feb. Our school builds some into the school calendar.

This will be our 5th Disney Cruise. Did the 12 night Northern Capitals w/ Estonia last June, 7 night Western in Aug 2009 and a few weekend Wonders.

DD asked Santa for the Dream cruise Christmas 2009-that way it would be "free"..Santa delivered!

There are three of us DH , DD (10) and me. We live in the DFW area. DD would love to meet some friends to hang with.

Great to have you aboard!! Where in DFW are you? I'm in Sachse!

Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers! I'm halfway through the strongest chemo infusions, with two more to go. I go every other week. Then I'll have two weeks off and then 12 weeks in a row of something not as bad. For now, I'm just trying to hang in there and live each day one at a time. This is much harder than I thought it would be but it could be much worse as I'm lucky to have a good prognosis.[/QUOTE]

good to see you again! lots of hugs and :goodvibes headed your way!

I'm in the same boat ladies! It's day number 2 with no school, I really cannot remember the last time school was cancelled 2 days in a row for weather!! hopefully the kids will go back tomorrow! they are starting to get squirrelly!!:rotfl:
I did clear off my driveway and my sidewalk and most of the neighbor's driveway(they have triplets!) so at least when dh gets home and parks the truck tonight, it won't slide back down!!
my dh works in Allen, he said the power was going off like clockwork every 2 hours since 6:30am, but the last outage at 12:30 still hasn't ended!:scared1: all the servers are beeping and the owner decided it was a good time to call it a day!
Oh I love the new Logo!! Great job!:thumbsup2
Stay warm everyone!!

:wave2:
Hi everyone,
Just checking in real quickly.

We got lucky with the storm here and escaped with only about 4-5 inches!:thumbsup2
And Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow today!:yay:

Spring is on the way and the cruise too! Yay!:beach:

Hoping all the snow folks have power and can just enjoy a couple of snow days. I do hope that ya'll are not stuck/stranded for a whole week like we Atlantans were a couple of weeks ago!:scared1:
Don't forget that as you enjoy your snow day, this would be a great time to send in your info for our FE(see page 1). We currently have 14 families participating and would love to include more. Don't forget that we will be keeping our FE groups to a minimum of 10 families and a maximum of 20 families per group. It should be fun! We will have to set a cut off date for sign-ups so that everyone will know who is on their list and can plan accordingly. We will probably have to cut off FE sign up at the beginning of May. So avoid the spring fever rush and sign up now!;)
Stay warm and safe!
Is it June yet?!:beach:

Hope you guys that are buried in snow are staying warm. What a crazy winter, right?!? I keep hoping that Spring is on the way, but Old Man Winter just keeps at it. Oh well, it will be Spring (and SUMMER) before we know it. Have a great rest of the week! :goodvibes

Just wanted to introduce ourselves and say we are so happy to be joining you in a few months! We booked way back on the first day that Dream reservations opened and it felt so far, far away. Lol. We just finalized our pre and post cruise plans and booked our flights so now we are all set!

We are a family of 5 from Pittsburgh PA. Go Steelers!! :) My name is Joyce and my hubby Chris and we have 3 girls. Lauren 15, Sarah 13 and Kelsey 9. I saw the teen thread as well and will have my girls post there soon as well as they would love to chat before we cruise I'm sure.

Also joining us will be my sister Melissa and nephew Keegan (8). I'll have to make her pop by to say hi as well!

Well it looks like I have quite a long meet thread to read to start catching up so I'm going to get reading!!

Welcome Joyce and family!! Glad you and your family can join us! My name is Tammy. I will be cruising with my daughter Rachel (22) who will be celebrating her Graduation from high school special education classes. We are very excited about meeting everyone and, of course, about sailing on the "Dream". This will be our second Disney cruise. Looking forward to "talking" with you more as we await June.

Welcome Joyce and family!

We are a family of 5 from the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas -- so your Steelers are currently down here with us. (Why did you send all this snow and ice along with the team?)

We have three boys: Justin will be almost 12 when we cruise and then we also have twins Aaron & Brandon who will be almost 10. (June birthdays for everyone.) Although my birthday is not until July, we are actually taking this cruise in celebration of my 40th. My parents are also joining us for the trip.

Looking forward to getting to know you, as well as your sister and nephew.

Day #4 home with no school. The boys are amused that they got a "six day weekend." We have NEVER had four days off in a row -- and I don't believe in all my years (as a student or a teacher) that we have ever even had four days off in the same year. Texas schools generally only build in 2 bad weather days, so I think TEA is going to be inundated with waiver requests when we get back to school next week.

We actually got a couple of inches of snow overnight, so it just makes it that much harder to see the patches of ice that are still all over the roads. A lot of the news coverage is still focusing on how this is impacting the Super Bowl. This is just unheard of here in Texas.

I second that. We are in Southeast Texas and we are home today because of ice on the roads. And we hear that we could have more of the same next week.

Hi everyone. Happy Friday!

Does anyone know the scoop on passports? Are they a requirment for our cruise? Rob and I have current ones, but my kids' passports have expired. I have birth certificates for all of them and they all have military ID's, too.

Thanks for any help.:goodvibes

I thought I read on Dreams Unlimited that passports are required.

Welcome Joyce and family!!
We had school cancelled here too. We are in San Antonio so very rare occurence here.
I think the temp just went above freezing for the 1st time since Tuesday!!!

We are me, Nancy sons Aaron 21 and Nathan 18 (celebrating Nathan's high school graduation) and Nathan's girlfriend Melissa 20

We did a Carnival cruise for Aaron's HS graduation. Although it was amazing, they still missed going to Disney (we have gone to WDW every other year or so since they were very young)

So now everyone is very excited to be going on a Disney cruise this time!! We are all "disney fanatics" But this will be our 1st Disney cruise!!:dance3:
Come on June!!:yay:
