Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Well, we survived the slumber party.

Awwww, sounds like a very successful party! (Hopefully you can sneak in a nap today - LOL).

We opted to go bowling! The kids had a blast - 17 kids ages from 5 to 9. The best part is that the alley gives you a hostess that waits on you hand and foot! Its not as good as Disney hospitality, but close!
How many of you are on Facebook? I'll be posting pictures later tomorrow - way tooo tired tonight.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Bowling sounds like a great party too. I love that there are so many options out there for kids parties now.

As to Facebook, I'm fairly new to Facebook, but I do have an account. For our last cruise, we actually set up a Facebook account for the cruise and many DISers also joined that group as well and we chatted in both places. It was cool!

As to us, we went and saw Avatar yesterday, and it was as incredible as everyone reports. I'm still blown away by the filming and some of the scenes. I can definitely see why there was so much hype about the film - - it was great! I hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend! :goodvibes

Hello everyone!!

It rained most of the morning, which left me with 8 muddy paws this afternoon! LOL Sometimes I wish they were just outside dogs, but then why have a dog? I bought a new Shark Steam Mop and LOVE IT! I can see I'll be using it a lot until we dry out! The local weather blog I follow says that by next weekend, we should see an active weather pattern that brings winter back to us for a while. I think that simply means, MORE SNOW! How many more days until we cruise?

I am on Facebook!! Feel free to seek me out! Michele Marie Vassar Cunningham Just send a note that you are on this cruise! I am horrible with names, so please be patient with me! I like the idea of a fan page for our cruise too! My boys are also on FB if the kids want to join in as well. Might be a good way for them to meet!

Connor lost his Blackberry at school the other day. We are just sick about it. Someone found it and used it. We got the numbers off of our phone bill, even sent text messages to it, offered $50 for it's return. No luck. I'd think that $50 woud be worth it to some kids. I guess getting in trouble is more scary. We did say, no trouble, no questions, we just want the phone. No luck. We will get him a new one by the end of the week. Maybe, just maybe, it will show up in the school office this week...but I'm not holding my breath!

I have been called to build a fire in the fireplace. Colton's girl, Maria, is over and they are watching a Pirates in the Caribbean marathon! I think I might like her! LOL

I hope this finds you all happy and healthy!

Hello everyone. I set up a Facebook Event page for our cruise. The name of it is June 12, 2011 Disney Dream 5 Night Cruise. Feel free to join and lets get to talking on Facebook also! :)

Scott :)

I can't find the Facebook Events page - whats wrong with me? I am listed as Krista Abbott Byrd - just put a message in the request that you are on the DISBoards - maybe I can get to our Events page that way.

Ok, Krista. I added you as a friend. If anyone has trouble finding the Events page, just add me as a friend (Scott W Houston) and I will invite you to join!

Thanks,

Scott

Hey! I sent you a friend request, too. Can you "friend" me then lead me to the event page for the cruise? I can't find it. Thanks!!!

The next activity is the one to avoid: blindfold makeovers (like on Sonny with a Chance). I spent alot of time helping to clean off faces.

Wow! The things I miss out on by having all boys. Sounds like the slumber party was a lot of fun. Glad you all survived.

I also sent you a friend request. I couldn't find the page under events, so I looked under groups (just in case) but couldn't find it there either. Although I did see that the June 7th Dream Cruisers have a group page going.

I think this will be another great way to get to know each other better. I do not use my Facebook page a lot on a regular basis, but when I do have the chance to log on it will be fun to be able to see pictures and learn a little more about our fellow cruisers. I was much more active as my 20 year HS reunion approached -- so maybe I will log on more frequently as the cruise gets closer. (Aren't we somewhere around 500 days to go now?)

Hmmmmm, I found the group on Facebook and joined, but there are only 2 other members. Are there two groups?

I created a group so that others could find it. Anyone can join this group and the event can be attached too.

We're booked for June 12th. Me, DH, and DS (who will be 11 at sailing). Did a 7 day in August on the Magic and now we're hooked!! Worried that a five night will seem too short b/c 7 night was too short for us!! Best vacation we EVER had!

I will look to join the facebook event too. I have to admit I am a Facebook addict. You will hear from me more often on facebook than on here. My husband wants to have an intevention for me and my friends. He says you see them almost every other day and then you have to facebook them when you get home. He doesn't get it...

Anyway I have been researching infants and disney world. We are going to Disney with my sister in March and have found pros and cons to taking an infant to Disney. Someone actually had the nerve to tell me to stay home and keep infants away from there. He also said they won't remember anything so why waste your time and get in his way with my stroller. So how do I respond to that?? I didn't and just let it go. If anyone has any POSTIVE things to say about traveling to Magic Kingdom please comment. ;)

Well I hope everyone is having a good week. I am so happy it is Wednesday and I only have two days left.

Talk to you soon,

Nicole

I love facebook. I can keep up with all my friends and families. No intervention needed. You are normal.

Infants are free, so why not take them. Just because you have an infant, that is no reason to stay away from Disney. My love for Mickey started when I was 1. I don't remember it, but I hear stories and see pictures and know my Disney fascination started from those first character interactions. Just because they won't remember doesn't stop parents from taking their infant to see Santa their first Christmas. It is starting a tradition. It is capitalizing on the time when kids believe in the "magic."

As for my life: another No School day for the kids and probably one tomorrow. We had an ice storm yesterday that is expected to continue tonight. Today is the 5th no school day. I just hope next winter is better: get it out of its system this year. June 12th seemed like a safe date because we normally end by Memorial Day. If next winter causes as many snow days, then my kids may need to miss the end of school because I'm not missing the cruise.

The kids might not remember but you will and that makes it totally worth it. Plus with pictures and videos the kids will love to look back on it eventually...prob not until there much older, but they'll get there. I agree with you on staying positive, and I prob would have turned the other cheek too, but I may have also let my temper get the better of me and smart off and say something.

We're locals and are always in the park with our one year old so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I agree that babies won't remember Disney, but I think that *your* memories are going to be priceless. Of course, you'll have to take it easy and not tour the parks commando, but that really isn't such a bad thing either. We started taking our DD to Disney when she was 3, and I so wish that we had taken her sooner - - she truly loves Disney as much as I do, and it's been amazing to watch her grow from trip to trip. I say go for it!! :goodvibes

Crystal: Did you ever get the card Belated Disney Magic Christmas Card?

Nicole: I'm sorry...but call me selfish. Going to Disney with a child under the age of 13 is not about them, it's about me. I went on so many amazing vacations including Disney several times as a child and many other vacations with you. And I barely remember any of them. Age 13 on is what I remember the most; like probably when we went to Hawaii. But ask our parents how much they remember, and they'll talk for 20 minutes about one single vacation. I think when the kids are this little, 8 months or even 5 years old like Corbin, it is DEFINITELY not about them remembering. It's about the feeling you get as a parent at giving your child such amazing joy in that moment. IT'S ABOUT WHAT YOU REMEMBER. Ella is going to be with her cousins, grandfather (and spouse), aunt, uncle, etc. She is not going to remember...but you'd better believe the rest of us will and will enjoy having her there so much. So no, it's not a waste of time or money taking an 8 month old. It's how you look at it. So unless you plan on keeping Ella home until she's 13 and will remember vacations, then tell that annoying person to...

Well, we survived the slumber party. It was alot of fun, but I'm tired. There were a couple girls that just wouldn't give up and go to sleep. We had pizza, then did hair and nails, played musical pillows, balloon volleyball over a homemade streamer net, and made rings. I had a friend doing pedicures while I did fun hairdos. The girls did each others finger nails. They were doing madlibs while the nails dried. The next activity is the one to avoid: blindfold makeovers (like on Sonny with a Chance). I spent alot of time helping to clean off faces. Then we decorated cookies and cupcakes. The final activity was popcorn and movies while everyone tried to wind down and go to sleep. The morning was just breakfast and dancing around. Good luck.

Glad you survived your slumber party and thanks for the tips! We are still trying to decide what to do for DD's bday. We are definitely making a quick trip to ATL to the American Girl store but just might do one night and then have a small celebration with some friends here at home. The new Miley Cyrus movie comes out right around DD's birthday so I was thinking about a movie party. Our local theater does one and it's not too expensive. Anyone else ever done one of these? I figure the timing is perfect on that movie, and all of DD's friends like Miley, so it should be a popular choice....only problem is that it opens on Good Friday, so I'm not sure if there will be kids who are going out of town...
