Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

We are expecting a dusting of snow here in coastal SC tonight (Thursday) We are already on a 2 hour delay for Friday and DH is on call for the Highway Patrol. The boys are uberexcited about the possibility of snow and have their pj's on backward and have requested spoons to put under thieir pillows - they think this will help the snow possibilities! We are also going to be doing some updating around the house soon - painters will be coming by the first of the week to talk. Hope everyone survives this cold weather! TTFN

How funny. I thought this was a New Jersey thing. My girlfriend who lives there with two young kids told me about this. Their teacher tells them to do it for a guaranteed snow day. LOL.

I have never heard of backwards jammies and a spoon under the pillow! That's a new one for me! Boys didn't go to school again today. We were suppose to get up to 3" through today, but only got about an inch. I think we are suppose to get another 3" through tomorrow, but it's going to be so cold! Teens during the day and single digits or below at night. That is wicked cold for this area.

The kitchen is complete! Yay! The contractors have cleaned up and cleared out. Here are the before and afters. New paint, new lights, new floor. Not sure what of my decor I will put back up, but some of it will go back up, I am sure. Maybe this weekend!

I have a few more touchups to do in the bathroom, so I'll probably do that this weekend too. Then, hopefully. the boys will go back to school on Monday!!!

Hi! I took advantage of our "snow day" to finally research and switched my dummy date cruise to this one! It will be myself and my DD who will be 15 at the time of the cruise. It will be our 4th Disney Cruise and we can't wait to see the new ship! I am a special needs teacher and switched this year from an elementary position I held for 22 year to our special needs preschool program. I had to wait until our calendar was announced and the teacher's last day will be about a week and a half before our sail date, so I will be ready to relax. We have already done 2 double dips. Can't get enough of Castaway Cay!:woohoo:

My stepson is a special needs student and all of his teachers have been awesome. You guys are great people and very patient. It takes a lot of patience to deal with all of the different types of needs. My mother also teaches special ed and she wouldn't have it any other way.

Welcome bairdbeth! My college roommate grew up in Marietta and now lives in Powder Springs! The chances of you knowing her are probably slim since about a million poeple live down there now! It looks like more and more educators are booking this trip! My classroom is the one that preschoolers with disabilities are mainstreamed into when that is the case. I really LOVE these kidds - they are awesome! Thank you for what you do within a self contained classroom.
Our snow was MIA and my boys were so dissapointed! We still had the 2 hour delay - just for nothing! We were originally scheduled to have an early dismissal due to exams at the high school and the teachers would have a 1/2 day workday Friday afternoon, but the possibility of winter weather ruined that - the kids came in at 10 and stayed all day, so I lost my workday and didn't get any snow!:confused3
Floors look great! Really brightened up the place!

I AM FROM MARIETTA!!!! And spent a lot of time in Powder Springs when I dated a guy from there. I miss it terribly. Although they are at 13 degrees today. Colder than our 25 degrees

Our wind chill this morning was 0. I actually had to shovel the top of my driveway as it doesn't get any sun. (Yes, I own a snow shovel as I grew up in Libertville, Il and Dayton, Ohio so I know to be prepared!). I was tired of being iced in! My water heater is having pressure issues and drained water to the outside and that pipe froze so now I have a huge bucket in the garage for the water to drip into. I keep going out to check it. They can't come until Tuesday to replace it due to all the burst pipe calls they have! I am Dreamin of the warmer weather and Castaway Cay!

Hey! We have been booked on the Dream since November, but I just found these forums! I must have been under a rock for the past 2 months. :lmao: Anyway, this will be our first Disney cruise and we cannot wait! We have been to WDW many times and have sailed on Carnival many times, but never cruised Disney. It will be myself, DH, DD (who likes to remind us that she will be 21 at the time of sailing!) and DS, who will be turning 11 the day after we return to port. I would love to get to know other DIS members and meet on the ship! I know I have a lot to learn....the gifts sound so neat. :lovestruc What is the info I am reading about magnetic paper and putting stuff on your door? Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. I also need to figure out how to add a family picture. It's all good, though. I have 17 months to figure this board out!:surfweb:

Yikes - - hope that they were able to get this fixed for you!! This "great blizzard" of 2010 has not been fun for us either. My DD's school was closed Friday and yesterday, so, with the flooding that happened in September, who knows how the school is going to compensate for all these missing days. Can't wait for tomorrow's high of 50!!

Welcome!! Glad you found us! The doors to the Magic and Wonder (and we hope the Dream) are megnetic so you can buy the magnetic inkjet paper and run it through the printer to make cool magnets for your door. To post a picture, you have to have it uploaded through Photobucket or another like-site. Then, just click the icon above that looks like a mountain and sun and paste the direct link from Photobucket. When you hit "Post Reply" your picture will pop up. It's as easy as that. I'll get you added to the first page too. :thumbsup2

Welcome aboard all the new folks. It's fun to day dream about this cruise when it's freezing cold and I am at work. Thought I would check in and see what was new! I think I'll listen to Jimmy Buffet on my mp3 player and think warm thoughts.

Yeah! New water heater is in and working! We did get an email today that our school system has up to 4 days it can forgive students without having to make up. We missed 1 due to the flooding and staff was allowed to make it up with hours outside of work( I went to a Saturday conference), but Fridays snow day will be held and not made up in case we have to have a furlough day. It looks like we probably will (and can have up to 5) so our snow day was a paycut :( I forgot to post that we will be in cabin 7582. My daughter, Taylor would love to "meet" other kids going with us before the cruise.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I forgot to post earlier that we do not have a cabin number yet....we are doing that guaranteed room thing and hoping for an upgrade! I tried adding our picture, but I must have 10 posts before I can add an image. I guess I'll just have to chat a little more before eyeryone can see what we look like!:cool1:

Count us in as part of the crowd! Clearly this is where we belong as I am another educator and also from the south.:teacher: I am a math specialist, floating to different campuses throughout our school district working on curriculum and training with all levels of math -- Kinder through Calculus! We live in North Texas in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

This will be our second DCL cruise - booked as a 40th birthday "sail-ebration" for me. My actually birthday is in July, but the June prices were so much better, we figured it can't hurt to start the party a few weeks early.

The cast includes me (Holly) hitting the big 4-0, DH (Mike) who'll be 42, and our three boys. Our oldest (Justin) will turn 12 the month of the cruise, and the twins (Aaron & Brandon) also celebrate a birthday the month we cruise, turning 10.

We have also booked my parents, who have been on a number of cruises but none with DCL. Their names are Dale (he'll be 68) and Janet (she'll be 66). It will be just a few months before their 45th anniversary so we may have to "sail-ebrate" that, too.

We are booked in connecting rooms on deck 7: rooms #7670 and #7672.

Hi Holly! I'm also from the metroplex and will have a 12-year-old son on the trip. Nice to have you along for the trip!

Welcome to the newest members posting for this cruise. Sounds like we are building a big group.:yay: Holly, I am also turning 40 that later that summer, so it will be my early sail-abration.

I am preparing for my daughter's birthday/slumber party this weekend. She turned 9 just after Christmas, so now that everyone is back from the school break, it is time to celebrate with her friends. There will be 7 girls. What did I get myself into? Shopping tonight and tomorrow to get the last minute party essentials.

Hope everyone stays warm.

Would love to hear how your slumber party goes...DD turns 8 in March and has asked for the same thing...we did one when she turned 5 but she only invited 3 friends. That was actually the least stressful of any of the birthday parties we have done, but I'm thinking she will want to invite at least 6-8 friends this year. We are taking her to the American Girl store in Atlanta for her birthday, so the slumber party will be sort of low-key. I normally make a big to-do over birthday parties (I love doing it), but with a trip to the AG store, we've got to keep things in perspective on the party. Anyhow, I'd love to hear your ideas for activities for the girls and what you find works well (and what doesn't ;) )

Kimberly

Well, we survived the slumber party. It was alot of fun, but I'm tired. There were a couple girls that just wouldn't give up and go to sleep. We had pizza, then did hair and nails, played musical pillows, balloon volleyball over a homemade streamer net, and made rings. I had a friend doing pedicures while I did fun hairdos. The girls did each others finger nails. They were doing madlibs while the nails dried. The next activity is the one to avoid: blindfold makeovers (like on Sonny with a Chance). I spent alot of time helping to clean off faces. Then we decorated cookies and cupcakes. The final activity was popcorn and movies while everyone tried to wind down and go to sleep. The morning was just breakfast and dancing around. Good luck.

We had my oldest son's birthday party today too. We've done the sleepover before and it's too much like school for me - nevermind the fact that I did teach most of the kids at one point in ther school careers. We opted to go bowling! The kids had a blast - 17 kids ages from 5 to 9. The best part is that the alley gives you a hostess that waits on you hand and foot! Its not as good as Disney hospitality, but close!
How many of you are on Facebook? I'll be posting pictures later tomorrow - way tooo tired tonight.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!!
