Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Michele - Hope everyone in your house gets feeling better soon. Never a good time to be under the weather but it always s seems worse right before Christmas especially if you're sick during a school break.

About those pictures on the German site.... I joined up over there when the link first got posted so I could check out the pics. They were magnificent! The ship is truly beautiful. The link to the German board thread was posted without the original poster knowing. Also, since you had to be a member to see the pictures over there and the site is in German, many here were asking for someone to just post the pics here - which some people did (without permission from the original poster). These were personal pics - not something released thru promotional group. Including pics of the original poster and her friends that were able to go on this special tour which was made possible by her employer. The community over there is very small. She didn't expect the pictures to be spread all over the world and there was some concern that she may get in trouble with her employer with all the pics of the unfinished ship out there all over the place. Add in people basically lifting her personl photos without her permission and she decided she didn't feel comfortable with the pics being out there so she pulled them. At least that's the gist of things that I got thru Google translater.

It is definately not going to be a white Christmas here. Chilly (highs in the low 50's) over the next couple days, up to the 70's early next week then back down into the 50's for Christmas. This is the only time of year I wouldn't mind a little snow ;) Although I do need to head out and do some last minute shopping this weekend. At about 10:00 last night my husband decides that he wants to do some Christmas cards for the people he works with. Really? You couldn't have thought of this a few weeks ago when I was out shopping for all this type stuff? :headache: So it looks like I'll be doing that for him Sunday. Going to see a local production of a Christmas Carol spoof with my daughter and ex mother in law tomorrow. Should be a fun day. But it'll be another busy weekend.

Hope y'all have a great weekend :goodvibes

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm feeling surprisingly ok. Pain and headache, but nothing like I thought. The surgeon is hopeful that he improved my hearing. They replaced one of the middle ear bones that vibrates to help conduct sound and re-enforced my ear drum. Won't know for about 2 months until it totally heals, but I'm optimistic.
Trying to not move around much today, so I'm surfing the internet alot, watching movies and Christmas cartoons with the kids, and addressing Christmas cards. Kevin is taking over the holiday baking this weekend, so I can be the official tester.
Michele, hope everyone feels better.
Rose, hope you had clear roads.
Good luck to all in their last minute Christmas prep this week.

DMMom, Glad everything went well with your surgery. Will keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery and that the surgery was a success.
Lucky you getting to be the official taste tester!

My how time flies, it is good to get back to thinking about cruising in less than 6 months. Looks like we have about 30 pages of thread to read up on. Work had been wicked crazy this past semester for some reason, Christmas break is finally here and I am so glad. Even though we ended the semester with 5 inches of snow in Roanoke this past Thursday. Now at home in High point it is just cold, just above the freezing mark, so summer in the Bahamas is looking real good.
After the holidays we will be paying off our cruise, finally, then we will be ready to start booking and making some real plans.

I guess I should start reading about what I have missed out on in the last 30 pages or so.

It is good to be back, thinking about cruising.

abitagirl, i just made a realization. I have tried to figure out why abita springs sounds familiar to me, it goes back to our enjoying beers at the food and wine festival at Epcot. Purple Haze beer from Abita Beer. I love Purple Haze, that may seem a little odd, I was doing a search to find out where I could purchase some in NC, and a light went off. Just thought I should share. Yes, I found out where I can get it and will be picking some up tomorrow. I can't wait.

Yes DCL will do something for the 18-20 age group on the Dream.
Our youngest son wil be 19 so we are also concern that he has a great time.
Last time I called DCL, they told me that they have a whole area dedicated for the 18-20 group, but they havent named it yet LOL!

This good news as our oldest will be 18 when we cruise and just graduated from The Early College at Guilford.

Since I have lived in the South all of my life, I don't think I would like living where it snowed alot (even though it is pretty to look at). I would not like driving in it. Rose, have a safe drive to Buffalo (and back) to pick up Sean.

How much snow?!?

I was born in Michigan, lived there until I was 10, but I have to agreee, I'm to southern now to enjoy the snow. It's pretty to look at. Visiting it is great. But I don't think I could take driving to work in it. Plus that much snow and I'm strapping a harness on my lab and training him to be a sled dog!

Rose - Have a safe and warm drive :goodvibes

DMMom - Best wishes for your surgery on Friday :goodvibes

Thanks!
I made it to Buffalo to pick up Sean.
But what normally would have taken me 2 hours and 15 minutes took about 4 hours! The thruway was awful! About half way there and back they had nothing though.
But we didn't get home till 3am and had to shovel out over a foot of snow until 4 am!:scared1:
What a night!

I hope our snow is done for awhile.

Gosh, winter starts on Tuesday!:headache:

GOOD MORNING FELLOW CRUISERS!!

Mike, too cool! We were practically neighbors! Our family had looked at a house on Columbia in North Olmstead when I was about 10, but then they decided to remodel the house and stay in Bay.

DMMom, Steve has had many surgeries on his ear and has very little hearing in his right ear. Good luck with your surgery!! I know what you are going through!

Rose, Be careful and safe travels! Even where I grew up in Cleveland we never got THAT much snow! Wowza! We are expected to get 3-6" tonight. I can about guarentee we won't have school tomorrow.

Did you all see the thread with all the new Dream interior photos? A family in Germany took them and posted them to their German website, then someone on here got permission to load them to his Flicker acct and he is going to repost them on here. Here is the link.... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2614273&page=7 Go to post 96...If I remember right. Enjoy!!!

Ok, I am off to shower, start some wash and head to the store, The neighbor is having her annual Christmas party/Ornament exchange..and I don't have an ornament! LOL It's also National Cupcake Day....I don't NEED a reason to bake, but this does encourage me! LOL

Stay warm!

Wow, a Christmas party with an ornament exchange sounds like fun!:thumbsup2
I've never been to one.
None of my friends do very much in the way of partying. I'm thinking I need to expand my social group a bit:rolleyes1

I'm a Hallmark ornament fan, how about you Michele?

Hey everyone,,,, Yes, I made it back. I have now recruited some friends to join us. A mom and daughter from Indianapolis that are friends of my daughter Kristen will be joining us for this cruise. I will see if it is okay if I identify them and also see if I can get them involved in the boards with you guys also. They are REAL newbies to DCL. Hopefully , more shortly. It looks like I will be adding DS Billy and his girlfriend Kathleen shortly if there is space available when we find out if he can go.
Bill

Awesome!
:thumbsup2

GOOD MORNING FELLOW CRUISERS!!

DMMom, praying that everything is going well today!!

Tammy, I am surprised they disappeared. Maybe it had to do with a confict with TheDis? I hope they get them back!

Well, it's been a wintery week for us! No school on Monday, 2 hour delay on Tuesday, regular day on Wednesday, no school again on Thursday and today, Friday! Usually, we get this kind of weather in January, not December! We have about 6" on the ground...the bulk of that came Midnight Weds/Thurs to 2pm yesterday. With flurries all weekend and another potential for snow on Monday! Looks like we'll have a white Christmas this year!

Looks like the stomach bug has hit our house! Connor just got up and is sick! He wouldn't have gone to school anyway! Sheesh!! Have a great day ya'll!!!

.....now where is that bleach bottle.......

Our Christmas will definitely be white, but we need no more, thank you very much:sad2:

I hope your and your family feel better soon. It's awful to be sick around the holidays (or anytime for that matter)

Good luck and have fun with that:rolleyes:

But seriously, the spoof play sounds like fun! I hope it was good!

Glad to hear you are doing well Teresa:goodvibes
I hope it works out well.

Nice that you get to just hand and enjoy the holiday season with the kids and no baking, only cookie tasting:thumbsup2

Roads were awful, but I survived:upsidedow

Woo Hoo!:cool1:
Just got my California Grill reservation for the night we come back from the cruise!:thumbsup2

Okay, so I should be wrapping but I came up here to get gifts to wrap, settled down on the computer to catch up and now I don't feel like it anymore.
I've spent the last 2 nights and most of this day in the kitchen, plus some other chores, so I'm going to spend the end of my evening watching a Christmas special on the couch..... will probably fall asleep there, with my son telling me over and over to go upstairs to bed:rotfl:

Although I don't care for beer, I know a lot of people really like Abita Beer, especially Purple Haze. The Brewery for Abita Beer is about 3 or so miles from my house. Glad you were able to find some in NC.

I'm a Hallmark ornament fan, how about you Michele?

A Christmas ornament exchange party does sound like fun although I've never been to one either.

Rose, I also love Hallmark ornaments. My mother started getting the grandkids Hallmark ornaments beginning with their first Christmas and then gave them each one every year after that until she passed. I have continued the tradition with my grandchildren and I also let Rachel pick one out each year for herself when we buy the others. They always have such great ornaments. This year I couldn't resist buying myself one too---I found one that is Tinkerbell sitting on a snowflake. I just fell in love with it! My Christmas Tree is decorated with mostly Hallmark ornaments.

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone is well, warm and finished Christmas shopping :)

DMMom (Teresa? - sorry still learning names) - Glad your surgery went well and I hope you have a speedy recovery :goodvibes

Rose - The play was a riot. It was "A Broadway Christmas Carol". Basically it was the Christmas Carol done very tongue in cheek and they would break out in songs from various Broadway shows (Oklahoma, Guys & Dolls, Beauty & the Beast, etc) with the lyrics changed to fit a Christmas Carol. Half the fun was trying to figure out which musicals the songs were from. As odd as this sounds, I absolutely love spending time with my former mother-in-law. So it was an absolutely wonderful day.

Friday night I was digging around a box of Disney stuff and found some of the FE gifts from the cruise I went on in January. In it were 4 cd's one of the ladies made with "cruise" music. That reminded me that I had downloaded the old Castaway Club cd - complete with the horn "music" ;) Went digging thru my compute and found it. Loaded that and the cruise cd on to my iphone. So I've been spending the last few days listening to some inspirational music

GOOD MORNING FELLOW CRUISERS!!

Well, it seems that Connor is the only one that suffered the stomach bug. Yay! :thumbsup2 It took him several days to really get over it. He was only sick Friday morning. His friend that spent the night left and Connor went back to bed. He was in bed for 18 hours! I kept checking on him. He did run a fever, but was never physically sick after that morning. Then he just had a hard time eating for 2 days. He would eat, but it would make his belly ache. I think it was just trying to "work" again. Poor guy.

the boys have school through Weds then they are off for the rest of the year. We were planning on doing Christmas here on Christmas Eve, then driving to Steve's parents on Christmas Day, BUT it seems Mother Nature has other plans for us. We are suppose to get another 6" of the Devil's Dandruff!! (My friend posted that on Facebook and I love it! LOL) So, if that much is on the way, the roads will be horrible, so we'll stay home! I have a turkey breast and small ham, so we'll be set!

I have just one more gift to wrap for the boys, then a few things for my family, but we aren't heading to Cleveland until the New Years Weekend. So, there's time for that. I have baked entirely way too many treats, but they travel well! LOL

Ornaments.....we travel a lot, so we pick up ornaments where ever we go! When we went to Williamsburg and DC this year, I bet we picked up a dozen different ones! We always get several when we are on the cruise or at the parks too. So our tree mostly consists of ornaments from our travels...whether it be NYC, OH, VA, FL, TN or even the State Parks here in WV! I love taking them out and remembering the time we were there!

Ornament exchange party is a neat idea. She has appetizers, beer, wine, coffee, soft drinks. everyone comes with a wrapped ornament and they go in a basket. You socialize, eat and drink! As you leave, you pick a different wrapped ornament to take home with you! There were some really cute ones! Next year I'll have to keep my eyes open and plan better!

DMMom, I hope this finds you feeling better and better every day!!

Rose, I am glad Sean is home, safe and sound! I would NOT have shoveled at 4am, regardless of how much snow there was! Kudos to you! I'd of left it for later!

StarChef, good to see you posting again! with all this snow, the days can't move fast enough!

Tammy, I love the ornament tradition your mom started. I might have to do that...when the time comes! LOL

I just heard Steve get in the shower, so I best get a move on. We have a few errands to run today. Maybe I can convince him to buy me lunch too! :lovestruc

Everyone have a great day!

Be glad you did not drive up for the game. Even though the weather ended up not being to cold the Browns performance was horrible.

Asking for advice.

We have decided not to come in a couple of days early and stay at Universal. Logistics and DD8 will not be 54 inches by June to take advantage of all the rides.

So it looks like we will fly in the night before and just stay at the Hyatt @MCO.

It looks like I can save some money and take a later flight and get into MCO at 6:30 Saturday night.

We spend the night at the Hyatt and take Disney Transportation to the port. I know for the 5 of us we can get cheaper transportation to the port but for our first cruise I'm thinking we need the whole Disney cruise magic. That and DS4 loves the disney busses and plays with his matchbox disney busses all the time.

Since I am about to book the airfare does anybody see any issues with the plan?? I want to make this trip as stress free as possible.

TIA
Mike
