I just went and purchased $100.00 dollars worth of disney dollars for the children. I was thinking of giving them each $15 dollars a day to spend.
Do you think this is a good amount for a 12 and 8 year?
I love the new disney dollars! :earsboy: but were is mickey?

I love the new Disney Dollars too!! :flower:

Are you planning on them picking out souvies for friends and family with that money or is it all just spending money for them?

If all for them..I would think that would be enough..(my girls don't know it yet but I will surprise them with some "extra" money for spending on top of the disney dollars they earn for odd jobs now)

My kids earn Disney Dollars by doing chores, or santa or the tooth fairy bring them and they usually get them for birthdays and christmas (heck- my 5 year old got $65 for her birthday last week). (my kids will be DD8, DD5 and DS3 at our next trip).

So now, DD5 has $132 saved and my other 2 kids have birthdays coming up and Christmas so they will probably end up with over $150 each for the week. BUT- this includes the $65 princess dress they want to get plus the other stuff they see.

I do put restrictions on the purchases- NO candy, stuffed animals (we could populate a small island with all of ours), etc. and I have final approval over the purchase.

Last year they each came home with money so we just put it away for this next trip. Maybe give them a budget of an overall amount so they can decide to save for soemthing big if they want.

Another DISer recommended not buying any souveniers until the end of the trip so that way they have seen most of what Disney sells and they could go to the World of Disney or wherever to get them. Or wait until the end of the day.

It's so tempting to see what each shop sells and they will probably want to spend their money right away- I know I do!

What are Disney Dollars and where do you get them. I'm assuming that they are money that is only good in the parks - what is the advantage?
:confused3 Thanks!

Disney dollars are sold at The Disney Store and are only good at The Disney Store, WDW, and Disneyland. They usually come in denominations of $1, $5, and $10, but this year there is also a $50 in honor of Disneyland's 50th anniversary. They have cute pictures on them and are a good way of saving money for the trip. The advantage is that they can't be spent anywhere other than Disney. They aren't just for kids, though. I buy them for myself, too! It's an easy way to save. If I have DD in my drawer, I can't spend them at Target, etc. If I try to just save money, I might end up spending it!

My children have chores and get paid thier allownace either in DD or cash or both.

But secretly I have been getting DD for them for our trip. I will suprise them with $50 more for each of them for our trip.

I think $15 is a good amount each day. If they do not spend it they can save it to the end of the week and get something more expensive. I think it teaches them the value of the money.

Have a great trip.
