Disney discounted room only offer on UK-Expedia; ended 31 March.

The total through PP was the same as the total on the expedia page, so I don't think there are fees (someone please correct me if I am wrong).
The exchange rate through paypal is slightly worse though--it cost me about the same as using my cc would have. Mostly I just didn't want to have to call the CC company (especially bc it's late and I didn't want to take my chances on the 10% not working tomorrow).

Thanks for explaining that, I really appreciate everyone's help!
I really want to book, but we are still waiting for DH's new Capital One card to arrive! They told us at least 2-3 days before we get it, but I'm nervous about prices going up by then. Not sure if I should just wait or go through PP. Ugh!

The $USD total on the Expedia page includes a foreign transaction fee factored into it. My total was much cheaper when paying in £ British Sterling with my credit card that has no foreign transaction fees. You ended up paying a foreign transaction fee to PayPal instead of paying it to Expedia.

Does expedia charge you in FULL ? unlike Disney that allows a deposit?

Thanks!

My daughter wants to stay at the Arts or Pop - but I have a opportunity in 'our budget' to maybe stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge - what do you think?

3 nights - Arts 228 POP 195 CBR 240 and AKL 345 - all in british

We haven't stayed at any of these resorts yet ...

They do charge in full. The savings was so great though that I couldn't pass it up.

I agree.

I'm very undecided where to stay. I have enough budgeted for the AOA andPOP right now. Don't want to lose the savings if I wait a month.

I tried the promo code today it is says it has expired. :( Anyone able to book today with FABFEB10?

My own inclination would be to go with the "bird in hand" rather than the "two in the bush". IOW, I'd jump on the the AoA or POP savings now if it is a matter of not being able to pay for AKL in full right now.

You can always cancel the Value Resort reservation if the AKL rate is still available when you do have the money to pay for it. But at least for the time being, you will have a room reserved for your dates and it will be at a tremendous savings. The only drawback is the foreign transaction fees and the fluctuating value of the dollar vs. the pound.

I paid in GBP through paypal. The exchange rate was given on pp's page.

The currency exchange rate (converting pounds to their dollar equivalent) is the same regardless of the financial institution. It is based on the the value of the foreign currency vs. your native currency. For instance, at the moment that I am typing this, a British Sterling Pound is worth $1.63 USD. That value fluctuates constantly but Bank of America will pay the same amount as PayPal or Chase.

However, most financial institutions will tack on a foreign exchange fee on top of that. So instead of that pound costing your $1.63, it might cost you $1.70. Usually it is a set percentage rate (around 3%, but it can also depend on the amount that you are exchanging). PayPal does not convert foreign currencies for free. You definitely paid a fee to them in order to change your dollars over to pounds.

ETA: for comparison purposes for people who don't have a fee free cc, it looks like the PP exchange rate premium/fee is 2.5%.
Sure, the exchange rate itself is standard, but the buy/sell rate is not the same at every bank or institution--if that were the case there would never be a need for the currency converters at airports with ridiculous buy/sell rates. An institution can charge whatever buy rate and give whatever sell rate it wants by adding a premium to the rate. Last night PP's buy rate was 1.59(something). I only say this bc when I think fee, I think of something added on separately.
I checked the tx and there was no added fee. As I said, it was a slightly less favorable exchange rate--which could be viewed as a fee (or more accurately, an exchange premium). But there was no separate PP conversion fee added to the tx--what you see is what you get. I just don't want anyone to get confused and think there will be an additional fee using PP beyond what is on their confirmation page. :)

My booking changed to confirmed today but instead of a # it lists the word "confirmation" after confirmation # so that's annoying. Sent off an email to expedia to hopefully get it resolved.

I replied and explained I didn't want to pay international phone rates and asked if we could resolve this by email. Not sure what is happening. I am now worried that they won't allow Americans to book on the UK site.:confused3

Let us know what reply you get back! I'm still waiting for my reservation to change from "Booked" to "Confirmed" and get my Disney reservation! I don't know how they can know where you are from as there was no where to in put your address when making the reservation!

Hi disneyeveryyear, ah10is & lauti

Unfortunately it can take a few days and in some cases a little longer to automatically change from Booked-Confirmed to the itinerary number, if not already done so check out the experiences of previous posters on this issue, some of which are listed in the first thread with quick links, also copied below

You will receive an Expedia Itinerary number but you'll require a second number so to access your reservation on My Disney Experience. Click on #125, #34 and #99.

After a few days the second number should automatically be added to your Expedia Itinerary, if not you might need to e-mail Expedia customer support. Click on #129, #86

ah10is, regarding 'do Expedia know where you're from', on the booking form you should have entered your phone number and then clicked on the Country Code and selected USA.

And disneyeveryyear, please don't worry about not allowing Americans to book, if that was the case then Expedia would have barred Americans by removed the USA country's phone code from the drop-down box. Secondly, it would be stated in the T&C's for Hotel Bookings, which it's not and if you're still worried then please read the article that ProudMommyof2 found from the NY Times. Click on #80.

And to help others, please post your experiences on the outcome of receiving your itinerary numbers, many thanks and hope you don't have to wait as long as we had to......

My Resort Confirmation number was on my reservation this morning! I booked through expedia uk on Sun. Feb. 2 and it showed up today Weds. Feb.5! I was able to successfully link it in MDE! So excited about this great deal! Thanks again to the original OP and all those that have helped me book this wonderful vacation!!!!

That's great news and we're happy to have helped :thumbsup2, keep following this thread and please chip in with your experiences to any newcomers questions as it can be a daunting time for some when booking in a different currency for a large amount and for the very first time.

Have a wonderful vacation.

Yes it changed to Confirmed no problem but there's an error in that instead of a confirmation # it just says "confirmation" twice. My husband is going to try and call the UK from work since they have VOIP and it's cheaper but still a pain.

I swear I am always the one who's things like this never work right!

Just wanted to share my experience ... I booked my room early Monday, 2/3/14, sent them an inquiry email regarding the WDW hotel confirmation number at 5:00 a.m. today, and when I checked at 7:00 a.m., the Disney confirmation number was on my Expedia itinerary! I have successfully linked it to MDE. Yay!!!
