Disney dangled the visual weinee & Mickeystoontown gobbled it up! 10/26

Great update, as usual! We ate at T-Rex that night. Then the boys headed to DisneyQuest, while I hit Every Single Shop. Only spent $$ at the Disney Christmas shop, the giant Disney shop, and Goofy's Candy shop. I'm too lazy to look up the official names of any of them, but it was fun!

On a much sadder note, I'm so sorry to hear about the trials your family is going thru. Whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger, and all that. However, you reach a point when you just say, "I'm strong enough, thanks". I've been laid-off, too, and it's the worst feeling in the world watching your savings slip away and not knowing when you will be back to work. And don't even get me started on unemployment. Arrrrrgh!!

Currently I'm working at a place I love, and last week I got a call from another company offering me a job at 3 times my current pay  My point is, you never know what's around the corner. Hang in there!

Like everyone else I congratulate you on your sleuthing around the CBR looking for the rooms in refurbishment! In desperation did you ever try to find someone who looked like a boss and outright ask them if they could quickly show you around for a few pictures? Probably wouldn't have worked but sometimes the direct approach has succeeded!

I was saddened to see John got laid off from his job. Here's hoping he get called back real soon! It's too bad government doesn't have to care about Customer Service and therefor refuses to allow you to talk to a human being.

If it is strange to take pictures of the bathroom wall then call me strange. I did the same think in a Animal Kingdom bathroom LOL!!!

My boys LOVED the Lego sculptures!!! I can not wait to hear about your surprise!

How does your super stealth mode work? Do you wear black? Make bird noises? We need details! :rotfl2:

First, you have to start humming the Mission Impossible theme song in your head. Then, you need to make sure that your camera and/or cellphone camera are at the ready. Next, you proceed to your destination in a semi-crouching position while maintaining a lookout for security. Of course, those are just my stealth mode motions. Others may have a different approach. ;)

Just holler if you need me! I'm here for all your condiment needs!

:thumbsup2

It is now! My son has a rule that if a restaurant has lots of crap on the walls, it's a good place. :thumbsup2

Then, he'd love love love House of Blues. Lots of crap on the walls, the ceiling and maybe even on the floors.

Nah, I'm used to Poolrat's Trip Reports. :rotfl2:

When in Rome! :rotfl:

Dinner looked yummy to me. Maybe I need to try this place out...

I'd suggest trying it out. The portions are large are could easily be shared .

Another great update, Lisa!

Sorry to hear about John's employment woes. Hope it all works itself out quickly!

How's Mama feeling?

I hope that he gets back to work soon!

Mama is doing better. They finally figured out what was up with her dizziness. Amazingly, she hardly has any at all now. She's dealing with the usual arthritis pain but other than that, she's healthy for an 80 year old woman.

Love your detective work Lisa!! I enjoyed seeing the pics of CBR and reliving last October there!! It is on the radar for our February trip, as soon as I see the discounts for that time frame. :)

I'm already on the lookout for discounts for next May/June. I sure hope that I get some sort of discount.

HOB looks pretty cool and I love the pics of the legos. My DH and I were talking the other night about skipping DTD next trip and then I said " We can't skip it, the boys look forward to going to the Lego Store every year and getting to pick something" Even if we just go in the store and nothing else at DTD :)

Uh no! You can't skip Downtown Disney! It's a gotta do on our list.

Is the next update your suprise of Ohana?? :) Can you believe I got reservations for 8 people for February??? I called the other day and I can't believe I got it.

Nope, it's the Wishes Dessert Party! :cool1: Congrats on getting your Ohana reservation. I know how hard they can be to get.

Decided to put this into a PM instead

Got it, responded and a great big THANK YOU!

Lisa I am so sorry about John's job situation...really I got another emotion reading that update...MAD! A man works freakin' hard his whole life only to be treated like that later. And to get that small amount for unemployment? SHAMEFUL! WE give so much more than that and food stamps to boot to so many less deserving Americans. :headache: Okay, stepping down from the soapbox...

Those funny faces had me making a weird face myself...but when I saw the "lick your nose"... :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: YOU. CRACK. ME. UP!!!!

I agree with you on the cornbread...NOT sweet, with really cruncy crust, YUM! Oh, and you know a good, southern cornbread when it is made with WHITE cornmeal, not yellow! :thumbsup2 I too make a sweet version of jalapeno cheddar cornbread... love it with beans and ham! Lawd, I must be hungry...making myself drool now. :rotfl:

I got mad too! I was so frustrated that I started crying and I hate it when I do that. The people who know how to work the system have it all figured out. Us? Nope, nothing, zilch....20 days later!

I do admit that I make variations of cornbread. Sometimes, I'll make white and sometimes I make yellow. Just depends on what I have on hand. I'm not a big cornbread fan but John loves the stuff. He will even crumble it up and eat it in milk.

As always, love your devotion to our DIS community and your detective work, my friend. I'm glad CBR is getting the sliding doors (LOVED those at the Coronado).

I read that they are doing some work over at the CSR. I think on the bathrooms?

GREAT Family picture before you left CBR (smart woman using the cleaning ladies cart!).

It was the perfect height!

UGH! DTD and the traffic and construction and the pushing and the shoving, and the stepping on feet...well you get the drift and you experienced yourself.

The DTD walls expanded while we were there too. I mean, they were everywhere you looked!

I keep looking at House of Blues as a choice and still haven't put it on the list yet. We saw that arch when we took the boat from OKW one night and I thought it rather odd. I can now understand the pick your nose and clap your hands reference. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

There are some weird wild wacky decorations at House of Blues. If you get a chance, you should eat there. The food is really good.

First, I"m so sorry to hear about John's job. I know first hand how awful that can be. I hope he's back working again very soon.

I hope that he is too! Still no word on when he'll go back other than "as soon as possible".

Love your House of Blues pics! What a funky looking place. Tell Hunter I love his hat.

I'll pass along the message. He likes that hat too.

And of course your CBR pics. Love them! I'll be there in 1 WEEK!!!!!! :hyper:

You'll be there sooooo soon! I can't wait to see the pictures. You are going to show me pictures aren't you? :hyper:

Love the pics of the drink stations, condeiments, etc.. at OPR. I am one of those people who LOVEs to see what the food courts look like at resorts and what type of snacks and goodies are available! I also enjoy looking at bathroom photos! The best bathrooms I have ever seen are on the Disney Dream. One bathroom had mirrors on the ceiling! they were really cool.

Excited to hear about the surprise!!!!! :)

I like looking at those kind of pictures too even if it's at another resort. I didn't see that bathroom when we were on the Dream. Dang it! I need to go on another cruise and find it. ;)

First off sorry to hear about your husbands lay off. I am the daughter of a sheet metal worker so I understand what you are going though.
Second loved the updates and pictures of CBR. They have me really wanting to try and stay there sometime, I have been told there is a slim chance they might be bookable for a family of 5 before our next trip.

This is the first time in many many years that they have been laid off. I'm ready for him to get back to work! For somebody who has a chronic illness, it's best that they have some sort or routine.

There are definitely pulldown beds in some of the newly refurbed rooms. I forgot to look at your signature and see when you are going. Hopefully, they'll start letting people book parties of 5 soon.

Enjoyed the update!
So sorry to hear about the layoff. Praying that everything works out for the best!

Thank you! They are great appreciated!

I was so behind.
I am so sorry about John....isn't this the place that begged him to come back and work for them?

Yep, that's the one. The person who does all of the ordering didn't do it and they are without materials to build anything with. It's some sort of customized commercial material and they can't do anything until it comes in. Hopefully, it will be soon.

Seeing your CBR pictures make so much more sense now that I have been on the "other side" of the bridge.

When we stayed in Martinique in 2013, John said that he constantly felt like he was on the wrong side of the resort since we usually stay on the other side.

Dinner looks good and the corn bread looks good. I bet I would be one that likes it. I have never thought to eat there, but maybe I might put it on a future list. I have too many places I need to repeat and too many to try. :rotfl: I think I need a month long trip!

I know! We have our favorites and feel like we need to eat at them before trying someplace new.

"I agree with you on the cornbread...NOT sweet, with really crunchy crust, YUM! Oh, and you know a good, southern cornbread when it is made with WHITE cornmeal, not yellow!"

"I do admit that I make variations of cornbread. Sometimes, I'll make white and sometimes I make yellow. Just depends on what I have on hand. I'm not a big cornbread fan but John loves the stuff. He will even crumble it up and eat it in milk."

Now, ladies, I make outstanding southern cornbread and I use half yellow and half white, but NO sugar! But definitely a nice crust! Give me a big pot of homemade vegetable soup and a pan of cornbread and I am one happy camper!

This is a great picture! Love your shirt! So cute!

Thank you! I found that shirt/sweater on clearance at Targer for less than $5.

Cracking up at your "If you're happy and you know it lick your nose". That picture is almost obscene! :rotfl2:

Almost

I ate of HOB in May and I have to agree that there is a lot to look at. It's a cool place. I had some type of chicken sandwich that was pretty tasty. Glad everyone enjoyed their meals. That is one HECK of a big cornbread. Good to know about the bread pudding. I'll file that now!

I wouldn't order the cornbread again but the bread pudding gets a big thumbs up :thumbsup2

Fun update. Looks like a great night at DTD despite all that awful construction. I hated that in May.

The construction grew and grew over the course of the vacation.

oh oh oh i know i know It's called "fun finds" or at least that's what it says on the building anyways we love that store!!

That's it! I could not remember the name.

Just caught up on over a week's worth of posts.

About the Laugh Floor -- On our first visit there, guess who ended up in the spotlight? Yours truly of course. Now, background is that you must know that I was the only flunky in a college psychology test lab for overcoming the fear of public speaking. I didn't overcome. So, having a mic stuck in front of my face was terrifying. And then seeing that my face was magnified 1000x on the screen for all the world to see, well, that was beyond terrifying. And then they are asking me for a joke, any joke. My mind is blank, my brain is shutting down, my face is turning redder than a ripe tomato, I can feel sweat breaking out all over me, my heart is pounding, and all I can hear is "You must know a joke. How about a knock knock joke?" coming through the fog that has suddenly filled my ears. I bumbled through the only knock knock joke that came to mind, and nothing . . . they didn't get it. Lead balloon tied to a lead balloon. Crash landing. It wasn't pretty. So maybe the guy you are talking about is like me?

Oh you poor thing you! Some folks don't like being put on the spot like that and having to come up with something off the top of their head. Nope the guy wasn't anything like that. I think the joke was something like "think of a number" and then he wouldn't say what it was or play along or anything. You could tell that he was just being a general jerk.:headache:

I was hoping to see by the time I got to the most recent postings that John is going back to work next week, but I guess not. I did the whole unemployment thing when my job cut me to half time instead of full. I actually had a good experience with getting it. My negative experience came from a two coworkers (one handled the payroll) who felt that I was wronging the company by filing for unemployment. :confused3

Uh, how the heck was that doing the company wrong? That's what unemployment is paid in for. Times like that.

Has John adjusted to the new meds yet? I hope so!

Honestly, we don't know for sure. It really wasn't a good time to try and change up the meds because we have the extra stress right now. But, we think he's adjusting well.

I'm so sorry to hear about the whole employment/unemployment situation.

It's been stressful but we're okay.

And I love your politely stealthy techniques to get a glimpse of the refurbished rooms. I'll have to test my own in a couple of weeks, if we don't get one.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get one of the new rooms.

DH is not one for the southern cuisine, yes, we are aware of the irony given that we live in Alabama. But he was born in CA and I was born in NY, and then we both partially grew up in the midwest, so our palates are all sorts of bland.

It's okay that you don't like it. Different strokes for different folks. ;)

Hope the rest of the year looks up for you all.

Me too!

Loved the updates! I was totally humming the "Mission Impossible" theme song when your were doing your detective work. Hehehe!

That's so funny 'cause I was humming it when I was writing it! No lie!

Nice sleuthing around the CBR looking for the rooms in refurbishment!

You know I understand the need to document the condiments, and food serve areas and everything else in the gift shops. I got to do that during my quickie solo trip without having the rolling eyes of my family judging me!

I'm pretty lucky in the family eye rolling department. Most times, they tolerate me taking the pictures. Sometimes, like at Grand Floridian Cafe, John looks at me like "don't you dare!"

But as I tried to take a picture of the toaster, some guy had put down a bag and refill mugs next to it and I tried to wait him out for him to take it away so I could snap a picture, but he was taking his own sweet time doing whatever he was doing and I just had to take the picture, bag, mugs and all

People just don't understand our need to take pictures! Don't they know that we need a picture with no obstructions?
:sad2:

That is a GREAT family photo!!!

We don't need no stinkin' Photopass when we have a housekeeping cart!

Thank you! It turned out pretty good.

Love Hunters steak. I spy double fries! I know because my picky-eater does the same. Swaps out the cole slaw for mashed potatoes. Love those skinny boys who can down all those potatoes without consequence.

Hunter is not much of a vegetable eater and when I mention it, he always says that potatoes are vegetables.

Yum, that fried chicken looks awesome. Have you had the fried chicken at 50's Prime Time? How does it compare?

It's been several years since we've eaten at 50s Prime Time but if I had to choose, I'd say that House of Blues was a bit better.

That archway is super cool!

:cool1:

House of Blues has that funky cool vibe going on.

Love the updates, as usual. Your dinner looks super-yummy. I'm hungry for lunch now, and that's still 2 hours away! That chicken just looks so cripsy and tasty....

And I love the picture of the three of you together.

Very cool decor at the House of Blues.

Darla, I always gets hungry looking at "Disney food" even if I just ate. ::yes::

I thought that the picture of the three of us turned out pretty good too.

I love shopping at Downtown Disney especially when you have all of the time in the world to look around!

Arrrrrgh!!

Yeah, I have had my "I'm strong enough, thanks" moments too. :sad2: Ready for our routine to be restored (and our bank account)

Currently I'm working at a place I love, and last week I got a call from another company offering me a job at 3 times my current pay  My point is, you never know what's around the corner. Hang in there!

Good for you! It's always good to hear about good things happening to good people.

There were only two "boss" looking people around and they were too busy to ask. If I had thought that it would do any good, I certainly would have.

I was saddened to see John got laid off from his job. Here's hoping he get called back real soon! It's too bad government doesn't have to care about Customer Service and therefor refuses to allow you to talk to a human being.

It is horrible that we pay in for times like these but the Unemployment Office doesn't want to pay out. What I don't understand is this whole two weeks of waiting business. Some folks can't make it two weeks without a paycheck.

If it is strange to take pictures of the bathroom wall then call me strange. I did the same think in a Animal Kingdom bathroom LOL!!!

Yay for you and I not being strange all alone. :lmao:

My boys LOVED the Lego sculptures!!! I can not wait to hear about your surprise!

When we went back again, we had to go through the Lego store due to the construction walls. It was crowded as heck!

Oooh half and half on the cornmeal! I need to try that one and tell John that it was your suggestion.

Hey everybody! :wave2: Wanted to thank each and every one of you who offered the thoughts, good wishes, prayers regarding John's work and medication change. Today, I was able to log onto the unemployment site and lo and behold...it says that we are getting money. $222 which, again, isn't close to what he made per week but at least it's something. I'm not getting too excited though because it hasn't shown up in the checking account yet. (we have a choice of a debit card or direct deposit.)

John's boss has been as nice as can be and has been trying to send some referrals on little jobs our way. His place of business does commerical cabinets but people look up "cabinets" in the phone book and his company is listed. At least we know the bossman is still looking out for us.

John met with him on Monday to get an update. The special order material that they are waiting on is on the second step of three (or is it four) to making it to the shop which means they will get to come back to work. I say "they" but "they", as in the shop crew, will be down several men. We know of at least two who have found other jobs. There are two others that are looking for something else. I'm guessing that means John will have a lot of overtime since he and one other guy (one that won't be coming back) were the main builders.

Some have asked how John's medication change is working out...well, it's kinda hard to tell. The meds were changed up because he was having facial twitches and they were showing up at a particular time of day. In a perfect world, the med change would mean no facial twitches. But, also in a perfect world, there would be no additional stress. We all know that ain't the case right now so it's hard to tell. We believe that it's going to work given enough time.

Oh a waaaaaaaay lighter note, Lacey and Jesse booked their WDW vacation! They are going to be joining us for six days next June! Jesse's Mom and Dad have said that they will, more than likely, be coming too but haven't fully committed yet. While talking about the trip over the weekend, Jesse's brother and sister-in-law started asking about whether or not there would be things that they could do with their daughter (who will be 2 1/2 by that time) and now they may come down too.

Lacey and I have been on the phone and on the internet trying to get a "sell 'em on it" package together to show them everything that they could do, the places they could eat, where they'd be staying, how easy it is to maneuver around the world, etc. It's actually quite exciting thinking about it. We don't want them to go and not have a good time or think that we hyped it up too much.

And, as has been the case all Spring and Summer, I've been canning and freezing vegetables from our garden. I put up 5 pints of green tomato pickles yesterday. First time that I had attempted making them and I think that they turned out well. Tonight, I have to find the time to finish up the last batch of sandwich pickles. We have open house at school tonight from 6:00 to 7:40 p.m. so I may be still in the kitchen at midnight tonight.

I need to get my behind back to work. I have a whole slew of folks that need to be subpoenaed for an upcoming custody trial and I have to dig their information out of a four inch thick file. Oh what fun it is to be a paralegal!

Before I go, though, I'll let you know that I have the next installment almost ready to post. Just have to add a little to it and then get it posted. Will do it as soon as I possibly can.

**Edited to add: Lacey has been making some Disney themed headbands to sell and they are simply adorable. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

First of all, great that you guys are getting some kind of unemployment. Not a lot, but $222 is better than $0! It sounds like he should be back to work soon too, which is fantastic! I hope once he is the new medication regimen helps him with the facial twitches and all goes smoothly.

 for Lacey and Jesse joining you guys for part of your trip next year, and possibly his family members too! That will be a great trip with newbies. I know I'm having a great time planning this upcoming trip with George. :goodvibes

I'm with you...I'll take anything that we can get. Of course, as is our luck, the insurance on two of our three vehicles is due this month so I'm just glad that we will possibly be getting something.

Isn't it fun planning and knowing that this person is going to experience something that we love so very much!

Yay for Lacey and Jesse! :yay::yay::yay:

I'm glad you got at least something settled with Unemployment.

How fun that you could be helping newbies plan a trip to DW. :goodvibes

It took us 20 days before we heard something from the unemployment office. Now, it's just a wait and see if they make the direct deposit. :sad2:

We are super excited that Lacey and Jesse are going with us again. Gotta wait and see if the rest of them will follow.

I'm so glad you'll be getting something, and it sounds like things are cautiously optimistic for your husband to be able to return to work soon....I do hope so! Continued prayers!!!

I was a paralegal for 12 years (10 in a private practice and 2 at Department of a Justice). I loved working at the private firm but had to leave because we moved. I hated DOJ and ended up changing careers 13 years ago. My legal background definitely comes in handy....and I always laugh about the things you wrote about your boss because I remember what it was like!!

It sounds like things are coming together for a big, fun family trip next summer! I'm excited for you. I am still trying to decide where we will stay for our trip next summer....hoping they come out with a discount for our dates!

If we have points left over I will let you know. We are buying into AKL next year so it can happen.

Sorry to hear about the job, I must have missed the post on FB.

I see a Minnie Bake Shop cookie in your pics. YUM! I could got for one now.

Nice family pic.

HOB looked good. We ate there once and only had a shrimp po' boy.

Love the close up of the dragon.

The amounts they give for unemployment stinks. Better than nothing I guess. I hope he goes back to work soon.

All caught up.

Thanks for the update on what is going on in your life. Continue to send positive thoughts and blessings to your wonderful family!

Glad to hear that the unemployment is coming through, even if they are taking their time with depositing it for you. It may not much compared to what he was making, but it's something - and anything helps! So glad to hear that John's boss is trying to be helpful, sending him some referrals. Also glad to hear that he should be able to go back to work soon. Hopefully he can and the stress level will go down -- helping the med change to work.

Yaa-hooooo!!! for Jesse and Lacey joining you at Disney World!!! Not to mention the possibility of more family joining. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun!

I love seeing all the canning/freezing you do. I have such a black thumb - I can't grow anything. I love seeing all the stuff you can and freeze from your garden.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will get back to work soon. In the meantime, it looks like we'll be getting the $222 weekly until them.

Oh jeeze! I don't blame you for changing careers. I often say that I want to be something else when I grow up. :rotfl:

It sounds like things are coming together for a big, fun family trip next summer! I'm excited for you. I am still trying to decide where we will stay for our trip next summer....hoping they come out with a discount for our dates!

I'm hopeful that we'll get some sort of discount/special offer. I haven't paid rack rate in years and feel pretty confident that there will be something that I can take advantage of.

If we have points left over I will let you know. We are buying into AKL next year so it can happen.

:thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about the job, I must have missed the post on FB.

It was on there for a very short period of time before I took it down. He has family members that are very very nosey and make rude comments so I felt like I better take it down.

I see a Minnie Bake Shop cookie in your pics. YUM! I could got for one now.

Me to.

Nice family pic.

Thank you!

HOB looked good. We ate there once and only had a shrimp po' boy.

A shrimp po-boy sounds good right now!

Love the close up of the dragon.

Thanks!

The amounts they give for unemployment stinks. Better than nothing I guess. I hope he goes back to work soon.

All caught up.

I'm certainly going to take whatever amount they give us in unemployment. The maximum that we could receive is $247 a week but then they hold out taxes and it's $222.00.

Thanks for the update on what is going on in your life. Continue to send positive thoughts and blessings to your wonderful family!

Thank you Dee!

Yeah, I am happy that it's something, anything. John's ready to get back to a steady job and routine and so am I.

Yaa-hooooo!!! for Jesse and Lacey joining you at Disney World!!! Not to mention the possibility of more family joining. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun!

I sure hope so! I'm excited to see who all will be coming.

I love seeing all the canning/freezing you do. I have such a black thumb - I can't grow anything. I love seeing all the stuff you can and freeze from your garden.

I put up four pints of cucumber sandwich pickles last night and I think that I am done with the pickling this season. Still have peas, okra, butterbeans, cantaloupes, bell peppers and pumpkins in the garden. Oh and tomatoes but those are starting to fizzle out.
