Disney cruise app messaging

Hello! Can anyone tell me if the messaging feature on the Disney Cruise Line app is working on the Wonder yet? TIA

The chat text messaging feature is running on the Fantasy and Dream, but is reportedly not available (yet) on the magic and wonder. I checked around the disboards, dcl site, and google play store info on the app a few days ago and could not find any date announced for the start up of the chat feature on the magic or wonder. If anyone gets any other news, please let us all know!!! We will be on the wonder to hawaii and really hoping it arrives soon!

For anyone researching the navigator app in general: The navigator app is working on all four ships, but the chat (text messaging) feature of the app is only available now on the fantasy and dream. We are all waiting to hear when it may become available on the classic ships!

Just be aware that it's glitchy. On the first Dream cruise we used the messaging feature on, it was fabulous. On the second, it wasn't. There were long delays in receiving messages, causing problems in meeting up. It's definitely not perfect.

But it was still better than the Wave phones. I never once got a call through, and could not figure out how to send a text, either. (and I used them fine in 2013) Not sure what was wrong there, but it was VERY frustrating.

Yes, but the old flip phone style ABC on #2 DEF on #3. Takes awhile for those of us spoiled by a full key board.

How do you ensure that that is the only app using the wifi? I don't want my teenager "accidentally" racking up major wifi charges....

You put your phone in airplane mode and then connect to the ships free intranet. As long as your teen keeps the phone in airplane mode you will be good.

Thanks. I would hate to find out at the end of our cruise that he updated a few of his games and spent a whole bunch of money. Lol

You can't connect to wifi in airplane mode. It disables it. On my iPhone, you can shut the cellular data off for apps. But it still allows you to use cellular for texts and calls.

Yes you can. Putting your phone in airplane mode turns off cellular but allows you to connect to the ships wifi or any wifi. I have done this on my iphone.

I just tried it and confirmed what KristiMc said. After putting your phone in Airplane Mode, you can manually turn on Wifi, and you will have Internet connection.

We tried to use it on the Dream. Very glitchy. messages would take anywhere from 2-8 hours to show up. Wave phone texts were the same. We ended up ditching our phones and just carrying the wave phones and using the paper navigator

From other posts that I have seen and a email reply that I received from DCL, it is not available on the Magic/Wonder yet.

I can only assume it's coming REALLY SOON otherwise, they wouldn't have published that, but sheesh. I don't know why their ducks weren't a row before that newsletter went out.

You put it to airplane mode and turn on the wi-fi, then you connect to the app, but don't use data

On the Fantasy in March, it was very unreliable. Mine said constantly I was offline. We were a group of three families and it was not helpful.

Just got an App update on my iphone and the release notes say the chat feature is now available on all four ships.

We can wait to hear from anyone on the Magic when they come back Sat. I just saw that notice as well on the app
