I got both Disney Cricut cartridges yesterday... on sale at ACMoore for 49.99! I have played a little with them and love them. Just still trying to get used to the layering. Any tips?

Go to the Cricut message boards and read the board for Mickey & Friends - tons of advice, including some step by step instructions! Very, very helpful! I was completely overwhelmed when I got this cart (well, I was a newbie to the Cricut too) and luckily I read through that board before playing with it, and that made it much easier!
This was the first cart I used. I've done a 2 inch Mickey all the way up to a 16 inch mickey using the Expression-I can't wait to hang them in my classroom for the fall! If you know how a shift key works (Which you obviously do since you type on a computer), it's pretty straight forward. Just remember to push the shape you want and then the character you want to make it for...or if it's on the top of the shape button do shift, shape, character.
Oh, and one last tip, if you intend on making a shadow and making the character as large as you can get, make the "shadow" first using fit to page. pay attention to what size it cuts at, then cut the rest of the pieces at that size.
