Alrighty then! Yet another post about this. Disney has ALWAYS been a place for the rich in my experience. Most of the world is worrying about where there next meal is coming from.

Amen!!

I actually couldn't make it past the first couple of sentences with the lack of capitalization and everything running together.

Yankphin, every family has to decide for itself whether there is value going to WDW and to stay on Disney property. If the cost doesn't work for you anymore, there are plenty of other places to vacation in this country and even abroad where you can spend less. The parks aren't just for the rich, but those with less assets have to plan and save a bit longer if it is important enough to them. Personally, I would never pay extra to have a designer magic band. The free ones work just as well. Everything goes up and companies will look for ways to charge more as long as it doesn't impact the bottom line. Disney is no different. As long as they fill their parks and hotels, they have no reason to lower the prices.

Sorry, just not as phone savy as what is going on with the younger generation.Just trying to get the message out there. I'm not as negative as you think. I love Disney, i go twice a year, I am a DVC member scince 2005,I have been to Disney over 40 times scince 1989.I can teach people how to save and beat the system, and I do respect your opinion. So the next time hang in there. Was that any better grandpa yankphins

Holy run on sentence batman!

Well fellow Disboard posters
If Disney does in fact enact the $15.00 a day resort fee we all can do the following:

Any one with reservation 6 to 8 months out with out a code or trip insurance cancel your trip and tell Disney because of the resort fee.
I'm sure there are at least 10,000 disboarder's have that many reservations.
We do have power and if Disney received that many cancellations on the first Days of the new policy, they would take notice.

Or All call to make a reservation that day when all said an done to finalize the reservation tell the cast member no thanks it is to much with the resort fee.
These things can easily be done if any one was willing to unite.

I have seen more effort put into refrigerator swaps than this would take

More resorts are moving AWAY from charging separate resort fees??
I respectfully disagree! More are charging separate resort fees!

I guess we have to agree to disagree. I know most of the places I go have gone away from a resort fee or at least reduced it and give things that were covered by a fee for free - in particular, internet access. And, at least for the ones that do charge a fee, I tend to be using the services covered by the fee. I refuse to use ME as it is not magical nor is it express so why should I have to pay for it?? Disney wants you to use their app but yet they also want to charge you an internet fee. No thanks. With all the cut backs in the parks and the increases in restaurant prices, I've pretty much had it. Yes, we will come back when Avatar and the other changes are done, but I will find a better use for my hotel money than WDW properties.

That's the key!! Places YOU GO!!
BUT the INDUSTRY STANDARD is leaning more towards resorts adding these fees on now.
Just like it has become industry standard for the airline to charge for your checked baggage. Does EVERY airline charge for checked baggage? No, but the GREAT MAJORITY of them do.

I have not had time to read the entire thread, but did some quick back of the envelope math. Touring plans says WDW has 30,469 on-property rooms (https://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/hotels/number-rooms#). Let's just say they are, on average, at 70% occupancy. I think many times of the year, the hotels are at 100% and I can not imagine they are ever less than 60% capacity, even in "slow" times, so I'm guessing at average of 70%. If the fee is $15 X (0.70 X 30,469) = $319,924 PER NIGHT. For 365 nights per year, that's 365 X $319,924 =$116,772,442. That's right, for charging that "little" $15 fee per room, at 70% capacity for the year, Disney makes $116 MILLION. Pretty tempting to the business owner. It goes up if my 70% occupancy estimated figure is too low. If people will pay it, I'm sure they see it as a big boost to the bottom line.

I thing that annoys me most about the idea of a "resort fee" is that it's somewhat hidden. So many of us book rooms online wherever we go. So unless we look for the fine print or actually call a reservation line and ask questions, these fees can creep up without us realizing it until we arrive at the hotel and now we're stuck. It also makes it harder for us to use internet rate comparison sites to accurately gauge the price differences between hotel options. This just makes the process more difficult to be a thrifty traveler. Do you remember when airlines began charging for bags? Back then we had to mentally take that cost into account to effectively compare airline costs. Now we have to do this when booking hotel rooms. The minutiae is enough to make me surrender to these fees so my head doesn't explode. Is it worth it for me to spend hours trying to research each hotel option and find out what the tax rate is for that particular hotel (it even varies from one WDW resort to another on property), to see what their extra fees are and if the quoted rate includes those fees. If those fees are $15 per day, are my research hours worth the $105 (+ tax of course) for a week's stay to do all of this research? Or should I just submit and accept getting "hosed" (I would use another term but this is a family place). I feel like I'm being beaten into submission by this stuff and I think it's underhanded.

I will still go to Disney as I love the parks, but staying onsite is almost a thing of the past for us. This would make it a definite with the exception of those times we just feel like splurging. In 49 years I have not knowingly paid a resort fee and do not plan to until ALL hotels and resorts charge them. For now, there is always an option.
