Reading the threads here on the DISboards it seems like most people use Disney transportation.
We have been to Disney a handful of times and always rent a car. We like the freedom and flexibility of a rental.

What do you do for transportation, and why???

Depends entirely what I'll be doing. Last trip, I knew my last-day plans and the Magical Express schedule didn't mesh, so I rented a car (that I only used three times). If I'm staying onsite but going to other parks as well, I'd rent a car. But to be only on Disney property? Not worth spending the money, since I know Disney will get me around.

We use Disney Transportation. Both DH and I spend way too much time in my car every day I want vacation to be different. We both enjoy someone else driving while on vacation.

we always rent a car.
the first day we arrive via DME (no luggage-dragging thru the airport nonsense for us:thumbsup2), then pick up car (normally BWVs, so rent at the dolphin). next we pick up groceries (super walmart, publix, or winn-dixie).
pretty much daily, we walk over to epcot and/or DHS (love that stroll!), else bus to MK and AKL (i hate the time-consuming, traffic, running, people pushing, drive/park/tram thing:headache:).
the car gets used again for most trips to DTD, and multiple :rolleyes1 outlet visits.

after many visits, done various ways, we found what works best for us :)

we always rent a car. we did the buses a couple of times then tried renting and thats the way we go now. don't like waiting for buses, then the bus is full, and you either stand, or wait for the next one. You always have a seat in your car!!
it's very easy to drive around WDW and you see a lot of things you don't see on the bus, because you have to pay attention.
We always drive to the parks unless we're at Epcot resort then we walk, or if at Monorail resort. We like riding the trams from the parking lot, those CM's can be very entertaining. I always get AAA diamond pass so we walk from the parking lot anyway.

Thanks for the info everyone.

We are staying at AKL this August and I have been out voted. Looks like we will be renting a car. Maybe we will try the bus to Animal Kingdom.

Just a tip for you:

Its best to take the Disney transportation to AK because the AK parking lot only opens 15 minutes early to those driving. If you want to hit the AM EMH at a decent time, you need to ride the bus.:thumbsup2

I didn't know that about AK. Really? We have often driven to AK and have arrived prior to gate opening without any issue.

The one park where Disney Transportation is faster is MK. If you drive your own car you have to park at TTC and then take the monorail or boat over (which can be a fun experience, but is time consuming). The Disney buses are faster.

I use Disney Transportation when I go. The price is right.
But when our local friend is there with us, we use her car.

Good to know, thanks.

I agree with your tip, but my kids have not been on the Monorail and I am sure they will love it. From what I understand though, no more riding up front.
