Hi...my family and I will be at the World in August and will be depending on Disney Transportation. I was wondering if should we rent a car as well or are the buses okay to travel any and everywhere we need to go within Disney?? Will not be going off site. Thanks :)

The Disney bus transportation is great. I stayed at POFQ one August and we had no trouble whatsoever with taking the bus from here to there. Don't bother with a car if you are staying onsite unless you don't like waiting a bit for a bus or standing in a line at the end of the night. REally though it's a great way to get around Disney!! :thumbsup2

If you're just doing parks and Downtown Disney, the buses are fine. If you're doing meals at other resorts, you might want a car (or be prepared to spend a lot of time traveling, or perhaps take a cab.) There are no direct buses between resorts, so you you would have to take a bus to a park and from there to the other resort.

We drove our own car, and didn't use it once the entire time we were there. We used the buses every time. We wait until the parks clear out before going to the bus stop so that we don't have to wait in crowds at the bus stops.

August + car sitting in the sun = HOT!!!

It's wonderful to get on an airconditioned bus after a sweaty day in the parks.

have a bottle of water with you in line.

Relax, we saw so many people getting upset over the littlest things while waiting in line.

It got so hot in August that the windshield on our van cracked - and not just a little ding that you can tape/ignore until you get home, but a 15" curved line across the passenger side.

I agree that a car in August, left sitting in a parking lot all day is very uncomfortable, nearly dangerous. Waiting for the buses was much cooler, because we made sure to get a frozen treat to lick/slurp on the way out. It was a bit messy, but nothing a swim in the resort pool couldn't clean up (with appropriate wiping of the mess first with napkins).

The resorts with the best dining are on the monorail or a nice stroll through the International Gateway at EPCOT. It is possible to do the restaurants that way, with some planning/scheduling.

I was at POR last August and disney buses were GREAT....nice and cool too!
