Has anyone purchased ticket at the TKTS stand in NYC? If so what show did you get??? How much were they and how long did you wait??? I know so many questions!!!

Yes - I've bought tickets at the TKTS booth a couple of times, though it has been a long time. I bought tix to see Ragtime and The King and I - and I couldn't tell you how much I paid, though I know it was a decent deal for the seats we got. I waited in Times Square, though I've heard/read that the TKTS booth at the South St. seaport is often much less crowded than Times Square. Also, I've bought tix at the box often the day of a show and have gotten a decent deal that way too. Just gotta have a backup plan if they are sold out.

We've used TKTS several times before and have always saved a ton of money. The problem is that you don't know what shows they will offer. So if there is a particular one you want to see, I'd suggest checking www.broadwaybox.com for discounts.

Also...if you do use TKTS, it is definitely worth taking the subway to Southstreet. The line is minimal compared to the one at Times Square and I think it is only one or two stops at the most. Well worth the trip!

Have a great time!

We bought orchestra tickets there for a good price after waiting more than an hour (I think it might have been closer to two) one summer (peak period). However, while we were told they were good seats, they actually were obstructed seats, as they were beneath the overhang of the balcony. That wouldn't have been a problem except the show was Phantom of the Opera, which has a really tall stage set. We could only see about half of the height of the stage. It really impacted my enjoyment of the performance.

Since then, I have decided to just get discounts through broadwaybox.com or playbill.com or the like. Occasionally, you can get 50 percent off, but the best I could find last night when ordering Mary Poppins tickets for Sunday was a mousesaver code for about 30 percent off (I was happy!). However, if you need a number of tickets or really need a budget solution, I would not hesitate to buy tickets at the booths. Just be sure to ask if the seats are obstructed or, better yet, ask for a seating chart for the theatre if they have one and review that before you purchase the tickets. Good luck!

Every time I've used TKTS, we've gotten terrific seats - from a center part of the orchestra, to 3rd row on the aisle for Cats. We tend to go for matinee shows though - Wednesdays or Saturdays, so I'm not sure if that is part of the good luck we've had. We have used them at least a dozen times though, and always been pleased.

we just use em to see Mamma Mia last week, great seats for $59.00 each, went to the tkts booth about 11 am and show was at 3pm, no crowds, maybe two ppl waiting in line before me, it was last wednesday.
(no Wicked tickts at all)

We've purchased tickets through TKTS many times and have gotten some great deals ($28/ticket for Legally Blonde, for example). Recently, we got Xanadu and 39 Steps tickets through TKTS--50% off, and the wait has never been a problem (one hour, max).

I agree with the poster who said that if you want to see a specific show, especially one that is very popular, you might do better looking at broadwaybox or simply checking at the box office of the theatre. Some shows, like Wicked and Jersey Boys, aren't available yet through TKTS because they're selling so well...

Oh, and I wanted to add, if you buy tickets at TKTS, remember to take CASH, as they don't take credit cards or checks.

I thought I saw a news report VERY recently that they are opening the "new" TKTS booth soon and that they will be accepting credit cards?

I think that the new TKTS booth may be in Brooklyn. TKTS is operated by the Theater Development Fund..you can check their website at tdf.org, they have lots of information available there.

The current tks booth is only a couple blocks away from Times Sq. You can check online and see what tickets they have that week
