Disney bought land in South Louisiana ????

Anticipation is getting the best of me, too.
Wow! I could go to LA to visit family AND go to a Disney park. That would be awesome!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :dance3:

A Sad Story

About 15 years ago Disney actually had plans for a new "Historical" park in Haymarket, Virginia. This was just a little outside of the Manassas National Battlefield Park. It was to be called "Disney's America".

Without goig through all the sordid details, it fell through because of dirty politics and also the death of Frank Wells. And that Michael Eisner finked out.

Anyway, Disney had set up five different "front" organizations in various parts of the country. They contacted real estate agents and attorneys in the area (Prince William County) and put together 3,000 acres; either purchased or options to purchase.

They finally broke the secret when they got all the lawyers together and the reps opened suitcases of Disney Dollars and asked if they could use them for payment.

Until that moment nobody knew they were dealing with Disney.

And this is similar for all rumors that you hear from anyplace. Until Disney decides it is time to let the word out, nobody not directly involved will know that it is Disney after the land.

(I lived 22 miles, by road, from the planned park location.)

well I hope that we just get something (not even disney if that is the case) just something that I can take my kids to and spend time together and have fun. I know there are zoo's and small water parks, and the movies, but we do all that and I just need a little more! Maybe I am being selfish but there needs to be something here like other areas have!

Hello ...this is my first post on this board. I have heard the rumor that someone has bought 1900 acres between Satsuma and Livingston and that some of the money was Disney...plans to build a movie studio, waterpark and semi-pro baseball complex.

The other rumor was from someone who lives on Walker South and said that Disney bought 2200 acres from the old Harris place..with plans for a Magic Kingdom

I don't know what to think...but something is going to be built in Livingston Parish...Mike Grimmer said that soon he will have a major announcement that will shock the south! :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Which *Harris place" The *Harris field* on Walker South is a subdivision now...

I live in Livingston Parish and I heard today that near where I live they are clearing land purchased by Disney. If it is true it is tooo close to my home. I wish they talk about it. :cool1: :cutie: :cloud9:

Sounds like you might live near me. LOL! Drop me a PM and let's see if we know each other! :rotfl:

Hello from right across the Parish line in TANGIPAHOA PARISH. There were RUMORS everywhere back in the 60's and 70's that Disney looked at a LARGE TRACT of land in rural ROBERT. I am not that old but my grandfather told me they came and looked but that was all it was. SO if Disney is buying anything in Livingston I would imagine I wont be able to ride "Tickfaw River Rapids" and eat at "TIN LIZZYS CHARACTER MEAL" any time in my lifetime. (only someone from here will understand Tickfaw and Tin Lizzys) But I had to say it. BTW I am from Ponchatoula (for anyone who know the place)

When I was little I heard something like this too. I live in Covington! I was told that they looked around here before Walt bought the land in Fl. bought people around here protested it so Walt moved on. If so how cool would that be to live right by disney! If it was true look at all the $ Louisiana missed out on.

keeping the thread alive... Cant wait to see what this really is if anything!

I have heard the rumor that Disney was interested in land on the NorthShore. That was about 4 years ago when I lived in NOLA. Now I'm back in Texas and I recall rumors when I was youger of Disney doing something here. I think that the whole fuss started with Disney putting a HUGE fire hydrant (101 Dalmations yes it's painted like a dalmation) at the Beaumont fire department. It was like Disney was paying attention to our little part of the world for some odd reason.

Did anyone go to Bass Pro for the opening? My family told me that it opened this week. I can't imagine how bad the traffic must be in Denham Springs right now.

The hydrant was put there by Disney Home Video to promote the 101 Dalmatians. It seems like quite a stretch for anyone to think it would somehow be followed by a full Disney theme park.

I rode by there yesterday and talked to some very close friends of mine with LPSO who were working security there to help Denham Springs PD. I was told that about 25,000 people passed thru from Wednesday the 6th thru Saturday the 9th at about 3:00 pm. They are shooting for 30,000 people (by the close of business Suanday the 10th) which would top the 27,000 mark which I was told is the highest opening the have had. It should be a record breaking opening.

I have worked in it for the better part of Novemer, December and January. They put alot of work into the atmosphere and the visuals you see in the store. It is very nice!

I talked to my mom yesterday afternoon. They went to eat at the Picadilly by Bass Pro for lunch and then went to the store after eating. She did say it is very nice. She said that the traffic was still terrible, even with the police officers there helping. I look forward to visiting when we go down for a visit in June. Hopefully the traffic/crowd will be better then.

I work at the Capital One right down the street from Bass Pro. Things have been CRAZY the past two weeks. It's madness.

And yes, I've heard the Disney rumors as well from plenty of customers. All are about land in Livingston/Satsuma.

I actually heard this rumor a couple of days ago in Lafayette so it sounds like its kinda spreading through the state. My boyfriend read a thread about it on tigerdroppings.com (its an LSU and beyond discussion forum) yesterday. It said that disney bought some land in Livingston Parish and was considering building a waterpark. Im sure its all a rumor but a girl can dream!!

I have heard something similar about Disney coming as well. But, I have heard also about Schlitterbahn looking at the Livingston I-12 corridor around Satsuma. Take this with a grain of salt. Clearly the area has literally exploded with development and it is a matter of time before something comes this way. To much money and people pouring into the area. Add the Baton Rouge Loop that is coming thru Livingston Parish and we ain't the country no more.

Geaux Tigers!!!!!!

My parents have heard Schlitterbahn as well as Disney also.
I think a water park would be wonderful around that area!!!!!!!

There's a big waterpark in Gulfport. I went before the hurricane and we had a blast! I think I could handle another one, though. Give me a reason to work myself back into my pre-pregnancy swimsuits! My mom told me about Walt wanting to build in New Orleans East around where Six Flags is right now. She said politicians wanted to line their pockets and that was their top priority, so walt left. Can't necessarilt blame him. I do, however, wonder if Walt *HAD* built over there....would the levees have failed as much as they did? I'm willing to bet Walt would've done everything that needed to be done to ensure the safety of his baby. New Orleans would be such a different place right now... it's a shame. IF these rumors prove to be true.. my daughter will be in heaven! She's 14 months old and LOOOVES Disney! Her daddy worked over there for a few months and we'd go over there and visit him! So she's been like 6 or 7 times already!! As soon as we drive under the arch way...she starts laughing and clapping in her carseat. It's the most perfect thing EVER!

The above was obviously posted by my daughter this morning. I just didn't want anyone to think I had a 14-month old!!! Egads!!!!!!
