When I talked to Mom last week, she said that my cousin got hired for a job at Bass Pro. I will try to remember to ask if he has said when they told him he would start work. Maybe they have given future workers a better estimation of time.

BTW, DisLUV, are you related to the Harpers that graduated from DHS in Livingston? That is where I graduated. I was just wondering if you are from that area.

Walt supposedly was scouting Chalmette ,LA when making plans for Disney World back in the mid to late 60s...many official docs were signed and deals were set...but LA politicians just coudnt let good enough alone, and kept their hands out till Walt walked away cutting his losses before they had gotten worse.....and wallah....America finds Orlando, FL on thye map!! LA politicians have a way of keeping the the swamp in the swamps, dont they?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think disney also looked at property on the northshore in the Loranger area. The story from my hometown is that he visited what was the Zemurray Tree Farm and Zemurray park back in the 50s - 60s but again was stonewalled by government.

Anyway that is the story from part of the northshore!

DHS is Doyle High School in Livingston, Louisiana (Livingston Parish.)
I went to school with a few Harpers..........Jeff and Brandon being two of them. There was a younger one, too.......I can't remember his name.......it might have been Alan??? I was just wondering if you might have been one of them. That would be neat. I am now in another state, but all of my family is still in the area. My brother still works at the high school.

My brother coached at Doyle High. He played ball there while in high school, and I was a cheerleader. I was even a cheerleader with Lahoma. Didn't she and Jeff get married? Now my brother is in administration there.

I work at a Capital One in Denham Springs and there was a customer who had come in a few months ago, talking about this rumor. It's hard to believe though.

But yeah...I can't imagine Disney in Livingston Parish. Trailers would line Main Street, I'm afraid.

And before you ask, YES, I was born and raised here, unfortunately.

My brother saw Lahoma in Livingston while they were down. He told me about it. He said that her son was a ball player now and had been recruited hard by colleges. I kept in touch with Lahoma for a while after we graduated, when she and I were both still living in the area.

I've been hearing these rumors for quite some time now (I live in Baton Rouge, but my parents live in Livingston Parish), but have never heard the name Disney specifically attached to any of the transactions. From what I understand, some company within the entertainment business has recently purchased 1900 acres in Livingston Parish, and is looking to purchase more land. Politicians keep throwing the "Theme Park" term around, but I think it's unlikely. Like others have said, a new theme park wouldnt make sense. A vacation resort in South Lousiana (especially in Livingston Parish) would make even less sense.

However, the film industry is exploding down here, especially with all of the tax incentives that make it cheaper for studios to film down here, it wouldn't be a far cry to say that they may be considering building a studio, or some sound stages in the area. I don't know, and am very interested to see what happens. For all we know, it may not even be Disney that's buying all this land.

I am with Btown. I movie studio was even considered over where my parents live in Loranger. But the company bought the land and then decided to resell it instead!

There are always rumors about Disney purchasing land in places even in Texas. I cannot disclose how I know (I have connections) but a minor league baseball team and Disney have purchased land in Livingston Parish.

You more than likely will not hear much about it right now because it still needs to be a secret to keep land prices from going sky high.

Also when the land in Orlando was purchased, Walt Disney himself purchased the land and it was a big secret as well.

Parish President Mike Grimmer said at his inauguration that something is coming that will shock the south... so we will see soon.

In this case I think the trailer park would or Should have to relocate. depending on what type or how large of a project is coming if a local TP is close enough to decrease property value or what ever the case, they would probably buy it out.

Sorry for all the posts, but, I am still skeptical until I actually see something with my own eyes or read that it is actually going to happen. It has been rumored many times that Disney has purchased land here in Texas but nothing came to fruition.

About 30 minutes north of me a "Dinosaur Park" is supposed to be built starting with a Dino Museum that will open in 2009 and the total park including roller coasters opening in 2011-12. Ground hasn't been broken yet, and I have heard nothing as far as print is concerned since around August.

Being a native from Livingston Parish, I do believe that south Louisiana needs a true form of entertainment and not the former Jazz land now Six Flags park that may never open again or Blue Bayou/ Dixie Landin'.

For years the nearest entertainment was Houston until '05 when Astroworld was closed, now the only choices are Dallas, San Antonio, or Orlando.

There is a major void between Houston and Orlando for family friendly entertainment. I-12 would serve as a prime area considering the traffic that comes through that area, as well as the growth in Livingston Parish and surrounding areas.

If a true "theme park" is to come to LP it would make cense. Take into consideration Six Flags over Texas, and Six Flags over Georgia, SFOT is 30 minutes or so from Dallas, and SFOG is 20 miles from Atlanta.

Theme parks usually are about 10 to 30 minutes out of the major city, along a major interstate and very rarely are within the City Limits, Astroworld was the exception.

I hope to see great things happen back home, and only time will tell how things will go down. I want to believe that something such as Disney or some major form of Amusement but I can't truly believe until I see, faith isn't going to put a park to fruition.

I live in Livingston Parish and I heard today that near where I live they are clearing land purchased by Disney. If it is true it is tooo close to my home. I wish they talk about it.

Man this has been one persistent rumor over the months. guess we will just have to see what happens and if both rumors are two, or one, or none!
