Disney Bed Bug Problem

I just watched something on Nightline about getting rid of bedbugs.
They showed someone heating there infected room to 120 degrees:scared1:.
They say it roast the bugs to death.
Maybe disney could try this!!

I'm no expert but I would think not since all of the "infected" items would be closed up inside of the suitcase, zipped shut with no way for the bugs to get out. But you never know...

Now I'm itchy, too!

I don't think that's true because the suitcase itself goes in the hotel room and plenty of people put their suitcase on the bed to pack.

My comment was actually in reference to them being spread from one suitcae to another in the cargo area of the planes...however, as others have pointed out, I forgot that the bugs could hang on inside the little "edges" of most bags and then jump form one bag to another while in flight. ICK!!

Yes, that's what I saw on TV. Thanks. The people had to remove all the plastic items or anything that might be damaged by the heat before they turned on the heaters.

So, just bring out your hairdryer if you see one on the bed. ;)

My DH used to work in hotels, and he taught me this trick. Leave all of your bags in the hallway, and enter the room, pull the blankets and sheets off the corner of the bed furthest from the windows ( or light source ), take a maxi pad, and unwrap it, stick the sticky side of the pad to the corner of the bed. If the sticky part of the pad is dirty ( little black or red specks) there are bugs in the bed. Take the pad down to the manager of the hotel and ask for a new room. Very few managers are going to deny you a request when you are waiving a maxi pad around the lobby! LOL!

,:rotfl2:

Between this thread with Maxi pad waving men, and the stinky European thread on the Theme Parks board-I am having a good laugh tonight!!

This is what Disney does. When they have a bed bug confirmed room they close that room, the rooms on either side and above and below. They do the high heat treatment and keep it unoccupied for 30 days. They then repeat the high heat treatment and then inspect before opening to the public again.

Disney hotels can get bed bugs like any other hotel but I do think Disney is very proactive and they are doing as much as possible to curb the problem whereas other hotels seem to try and turn a blind eye and deny the problem exists.

I will do my bed check upon arrival but bed bugs can't keep me away from WDW!

I had a GROSS bed-bug dream last night, all thanks to that NY Post article posted a few pages back. . . Ewwwwwwww! I woke up in a panic and thought I was being devoured!! All my hotel stays I've never worried about bed bugs - I'm always more concerned about lysol-wiping the surfaces and removing the bedspread. . . now I have another issue to add to my pre-move in checklist!

Oh Gawd, I am itching... I will definatley check now when we get to our room Saturday..... Ewwwy

hmmm we got them last year bad at pop. my sons face was horrible my neck and arms were bit up bad not to mention my poor baby looking like he got chicken poxs. they comp'd us 2 nights stay changed our room and cleaned all of our belongings and due to the time of the clothes washer being open they also bought us 400.00 worth of clothes so we weren't naked in a room all day and night. it was horrible and my husband refuses to go back to disney any time soon cause of it :(

they do not shut down the room and all connecting rooms for 30 days. our bug room had people in it 3 days later no other rooms were closed at all near it. they uv treat it check it then open it back up :confused3

When we had our issue I was told they close it for 30 days and do what I said in my previous post. I wasn't there to verify that is what they did, just relaying what I was told. Sad to hear they didn't take it seriously at the Pop since I am planning to go there in July! :scared1: It was a different WDW resort I had a problem in.

Bed bugs aren't the only critters one can encounter. Friends recently had a rental car that was infested with fleas! Then they had to explain to the hotel what happened in case the room was also infested!

Oh, and this brings to mind a rather interesting thread about various food critters.

This thread is completely freaking me out. I have always checked our rooms every time we have stayed anywhere, and I have never found any bed bugs. However, now that everyone is talking about it, it got me to thinking, when we stayed at ASMU last year, my hubbie had bites on his ankles one day and they were in a row and they really bothered him and were very itchy. I never thought anything about it until now. He was the only one that had bites on him though, and like I said, I saw no evidence of bed bugs in our room. Has every hotel at Disney had reports of bed bugs?:confused3

My cousin ended up with a bedbug infestation in her home after returning from a trip-had to throw out her mattress, wash evrything..it was a nightmare. They recommend not putting your suitcase on your bed to unpack when you come home. I don't even bring it into the house anymore..I unpack in the hallway, all my clothes go right to the washer.

Same thing in the hotel room-be careful where you put your suitcase-keep it off the floor. I'll be doing the check too first thing.

Bed bugs are not the only biting bugs found at WDW. There are lots of others.
