Disney Bed Bug Problem

We stopped in southern GA on our way home from Disney in Dec. 2010.

Our room had bed bugs. We woke at 4 am to feed our baby daughter and found 2 in our bed, 1 in our boys' bed and 1 on the wall. We captured them and put them in a ziploc to show management. They had NO procedure in place but we did the best we could by bagging our belongings and checking everything thoroughly and throwing out things we didn't really need -probably threw out too much but I was definitely freaked out by it. Checking the mattress-after the fact- there were definite signs of bed bugs- black spots, etc. Looked like the pictures online. But we never saw anymore bugs than the ones we caught in the ziploc.

The bags ripped on the long drive home so we took everything in the house in bags and washed in hot water and put it in the dryer on high heat. Anything small enough we put in the dryer for 30 minutes on high. We bagged all our larger suitcases in large black bags and left them in the garage until summer and put the bags in the heat of the sun in the black bags. We found no sign of bed bugs or even any dead ones. But I was totally paranoid about them getting into our home.

Now we never bring our luggage into a hotel room without checking the mattresses but that is the extent of it. I used to be anxious about it but now I figure we will check- ask to be moved if we see anything questionable and if we see nothing, we will just enjoy our vacation. If we ever see them after we have been in the room for awhile, we would probably take precautions again with bringing anything into the house and deal with it if we ever accidentally bring them home.

Don't worry so much about bed bugs that you can't enjoy your vacation!!
