Disney asks: Are our steam trains a must-see for you when visiting? Tell us...

the steam trains have been around since the park opened its one of those classic things that you just aren't going to take away. Hogwarts is an attraction that takes you between two parks and has a different purpose than the steam trains. The hogwarts express is supposed to make you feel like your in the world of Harry potter. The steam trains are that classic love that walt had and he wanted in his parks it's a park symbol.

I love Disney's trains AND I am excited to try the Hogwarts attraction. But Hogwarts isn't a normal train, it is an attraction. It probably will go an extremely short distance (straight out of one station and in the next) and there will be no windows but rather screens for the attraction. I am wondering if they will do other things such as shake the cars. Sounds like it will be really fun.

Being on a real train is what is fun at Disney so there is no comparison; one is an attraction and one is a train.

I have never ridden the trains, I will definitely try to next time we are there. I love old steam trains... always reminds me of the cool movies from the 50's where there was always a poignant scene at the station with all the steam swirling around and the hopeful lover waiting ...

Of course they're not feeling the heat from Hogwart's Express AT ALL :happytv:

While HP is well done, the train they will have is a mock up and electric. the cars will have screens to show the trip, not real steam.

There is something just very special, a totally different and real thing.

AKK

I'm confused what is their answer? The steam trains are way older than the hogwarts express and they are to changing it was just a blog post asking if you like them or not so.
I apologize....I misread. I don't know why I thought Disney added brand new trains. I think it was OKW lover's picture of the shiny train. :thumbsup2

I hope they don't ever get rid of the trains because I love them.

We ride the train in the Magic Kingdom every time we visit. On our trip back in June 2011 I was pregnant and exhausted. I wanted to get back up to the front of the park and rent a wheelchair. We were in Frontierland so we got on the train and rode around to the front of the park. Rented my wheelchair and got back on the train and rode back to meet the rest of the family.

Love the train!

The Trains reflect Walt himself, his loves and his hobbies along with the hobbies of several of his best known imagineers. Trains also help us to recall a simpler time where family and health came first. I love the train and all trains for these reasons and more and would hope that they would never be removed from the parks. Technology must progress and as a company, Disney must evolve with the times as that is the nature of business is to make profit and stay in business. I do get upset when it appears that Walt himself is being driven from the parks in any way as regardless of the year or the state of technology it is Walt's ideas and concepts along with the ideas and concepts of many, many imagineers that keep the park as magical as it is. Six Flags, Universal, etc.... all great parks in their own right, but NONE of them have that magic that you get from visiting Walt Disney World. Love the trains, love the parks, will enjoy all of it as much as I can while I am on this mortal coil.

I'm a big fan, they are a great way to view the parks and take it in while resting tired feet, I think they add a lot of charm to the parks.

We like the trains and will take at least one spin around the park on our visits. Is it a "must do". Not really, but it beats walking from Main Street to Splash!

We LOVE the steam trains. Nothing says we are at Disney more than hearing the train whistle/riding the train, and seeing Cinderella's castle! pixiedust:

I used to view the trains as someone boring but more and more I come to enjoy them for what they are - part of Walt's unique legacy and a nice, relaxing way to enjoy the park. It takes time, you get a breeze, there's usually no long lines to stand in...

With that being said, some of the "scenery" on the train ride could be updated a bit but otherwise I'd be highly disappointed if they were ever removed or changed drastically.

Boring people are allowed to ride, too!

Just kidding!!! :lmao:

Well said! And you are right, the one thing that could change is an updating of the "scenery." Maybe Disney could come up with something innovative to put along the ride.

We always do the train at WDW, but I'm disapointed that they changed the music a few years ago. I loved the steel drum music that started when you left the Main Street station. On the other coast, at DL, we were able to do the private car a few years ago. Wow!! That was neat.
But where is that picture from? Some amusement park somewhere I imagine.

This exactly! The trains at Disney are just as big of an attraction and MUST DO each trip as is Peter Pan and it's a Small World. Without these classics WDW is just another amusement park I could skip.

Eh, I think that Universal is just as magic as WDW in its own way but I don't see what that has to do with the article. I love the Disney trains and consider them a highlight of every trip.

1) We LOVE the steam trains.
2) As a member of Carolwood Society, we got a special back-stage tour.
3) We went to the "car barn" and saw the trains and monorails repair shops.
4) AND, HAD SPECIAL PERMISSION TO TAKE PHOTOS !
5) A truly privileged event for us.

What'd the Carolwood Society?
