This Week in Disney Parks Photos: Steam Trains at Disneyland Park, Magic Kingdom Park

This week on the Disney Parks Blog, we shared some impressive shots of trains that regularly delight guests at both Disneyland park and Magic Kingdom Park.
Disney Parks Blog author and photographer Paul Hiffmeyer shared his final holiday-inspired shots of Disneyland Railroad Engine No. 3 in this week’s “Disney Parks After Dark” series.

At Magic Kingdom Park, Russ Stacey took a ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad‘s The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour. Check out his original post for his review of the tour.

Are our steam trains a must-see for you when visiting? Tell us in the “Comments” section below.
:thumbsup2

Of course they're not feeling the heat from Hogwart's Express AT ALL :happytv:

1) We LOVE the steam trains.
2) As a member of Carolwood Society, we got a special back-stage tour.
3) We went to the "car barn" and saw the trains and monorails repair shops.
4) AND, HAD SPECIAL PERMISSION TO TAKE PHOTOS !
5) A truly privileged event for us.

Really, what is this supposed to mean? I don't think Disney "feels the heat" at all. The Magic Kingdom sees almost THREE TIMES more people annually than either Universal Orlando park. Frankly, they're probably glad to see more options in Orlando - a rising tide lifts all boats...

Take out the Brazillian tour groups, cheerleaders and Pop Warner and you are going to see your "big MK ratio" shrink dramatically. Disney has become complacent and dependent on attracting one-time visitors who don't notice the decreasing maintenance, increasing prices and and lack of major new attractions. Or put differently, Disney is acting just like GM and Ford did when Toyota and Honda started entering the U.S. market. They are ignoring meaningful innovation and desired customer experience (yeah, feel the love for Magic+).

That all stated, I do love the fact Disney still maintains and runs vintage steam. Although yes, the Hogwart's Express is going to change the dynamic. Those who experience it and then subsequently visit the MK are going to view the WDW railroad as cute but very basic.

Yeah, but all those tour groups still count. ...and they're not leaving.

Boris, you work for Universal, don't you?

PLEASEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Give it a rest already!!!!

We are talking about the trains. Do you enjoy riding the trains? I do. The trains are awesome. I am a model railroader and love garden railroads, too. Do you like or have any trains?

Is it possible to discuss our love of the trains without turning this into a bash Disney, MM+, FP+, and Avatar thread, or a worship Universal thread!!!!

You have the right to your opinions but there are a ZILLION threads where this is debated ad nauseum.

Please. Pretty please. Please, please, please, I am begging you, PLEASE! Can we have one thread, just one little thread that just talks about...

trains.

Edit: Sorry, I incorrectly singled out Borishack, who didn't start it. This was meant to be a general plea to everyone bringing up those other subjects.

My daughter and I are doing the Behind the Steam Trains tour in August. We're pretty jazzed about it. We had the good fortune to ride in the Lilly Belle in Disneyland. Loved it. :)

I love the trains, it is a must do everytime we go, and the sounds of the trains just make my day.

I love the trains and do them every time either with or without my family members.

You bring up an important point. The huff and puff, steam hiss, and whistle of the trains circling the park is a familiar and loved sound.

Looking forward to when DS2 can do the behind the scenes trains tour. He LOVES trains...

Fine, have fun spending hundreds of doillars so you can enjoy their boorish behavior:

:rolleyes2 No, I don't even work in the theme park industry. I am a long time DVC owner who is not pleased with quarter to quarter, milk the customer direction Iger is taking what was once a great enterprise.

And I am not intimidated by his enablers.;)

the steam trains have been around since the park opened its one of those classic things that you just aren't going to take away. Hogwarts is an attraction that takes you between two parks and has a different purpose than the steam trains. The hogwarts express is supposed to make you feel like your in the world of Harry potter. The steam trains are that classic love that walt had and he wanted in his parks it's a park symbol.

woah... Very cool pic! It looks much better than Disney's pics! Is this Disney World's answer for Universal's new Hogwarts Express that coming this summer? :confused3
I'm confused what is their answer? The steam trains are way older than the hogwarts express and they are to changing it was just a blog post asking if you like them or not so.

Hate foreigners? Hate singing? I saw absolutely nothing negative in that video!! I saw a group of well behaved happy young people in a group and some of them were singing. I would not have any problem had I been the camera person.

We get it. Because you are DVC and unhappy you feel compelled to be unhappy to all of us. WE aren't Disney. Be nice for a change. Go be angry at someone who works for Disney.

It is nice to know you like the trains. They are iconic.
