Disney Announces New Premier Passport

Apperntly this is not true, well at least according to Disneyland. My wife and I have active passes that expire this month but have not yet expired. The Cast member said because our passes at Dosneyland are within a "renewal window" that we are not going to get an automatic pass unless we renew our Disneyland passes. Also, the Cast Member said that no passes were being mailed till next week. I am going to go and try to fight this as it looks like we should not have to renew, but I need something to back me up. If anyone has Links from Disney they can send or post so I can have something I would love it. Thanks.

That's very odd.

According to the information being given to us at WDW, all Passholders who held both Passes as of 3/1 and who do not have Passes expiring prior to 3/15 will be reciving mailers. DLR should be receiving the same information.

I would suggest contacting Walt Disney World Resort Annual Passholder Services on (407) 560-7277 and seeing if they give you the same response. You can then take that and use it when talking with Disneyland Resort Guest Services.

If I send you PM with my email could you email this info. I don't see how calling WDW will help. I need something in "Writing" for lack of a better term.

For the sake of argument, does this mean if you want a Premium Pass you have to get the $700+ one? If you had no interest in or way of going to WDW, this would not be a savings but a hefty price increase, right?

No this is a Premier Pass different then the premium.
Premium is either wdw or dl premier is both together.

Oh, one more thing I forgot! This past year, Disney made the Dining Plan available to AP holders. So, you can get the room discount -when it's offered--and get the dining plan that others get when they book a package.

Now, that would be a great deal.

Without a DVC discount it's works out better for us to buy Deluxe DL APs and WDW 6 day parkhopper tickets to cover our trips from Nov 2010 - Nov 2011.

Just for clarification - hotel room discounts of a sort are offered 365 days a year with APs. With the APs for DLR (and for WDW, too, I think), you get a discount on the hotels year-round. It's just that they perodically come out with the "AP rates" (AP8, AP9, AP10, etc.), which offer great savings, and those rates are much lower than the usual discounts. But if there are no "AP8" or "AP10" rates or whatever happening during a designated period to offer the great discounts, you will still get hotel room discounts of, I think, 10% 365 days a year, with the Premier, Premium, Deluxe, etc.

From everything I am interpreting from what has been posted here by Glendalais, etc., about what comes with the Premier AP, unless I overlooked something, I think the best way to explain the benefits of the Premier is to say that any previous DLR or WDW Premium AP Holders will not lose any of the benefits they previously had - and that includes any and all discounts on food, hotels and merchandise, parking, and 365-day a year access to the parks, as well as the Backstage Pass magazine, etc. The way I am reading it is that the Premier AP offers all the same stuff that the DLR PAP or the WDW version of the PAP offered - just combined into one big Super Pass!! In other words, no one is losing anything they would be getting with the Premium AP. In fact, they're getting all the same stuff that was already offered plus more benefits, more parks to visit - more, more, more!! That's why I think the $700 price is such a steal for everything you get with it.

I think this may work for us, if the price stays at 700$ next year.
We are planning to visit WDW next year. Our DL PAPs expire this year :(
so pricing out WDW tickets, 10 days are pretty pricey. But if we can get discounts and add a AP for DL for less than the going price it all works out I can get back to DL and get my WDW trip :cool1:
I just talked myself into it. Now fingers crossed the prices don't skyrocket next year!! :scared1:

I'm so excited about this! DH and I want to go back to WDW for its 40th anniversary, and if we're still living in Los Angeles by then we'll definitely still have DLR APs! Maybe I could squeeze a second WDW trip out of that year.

No, I do NOT have a Disney park addiction.

:rolleyes1:

It is great to have the premier pass for both resorts, but it is different when people have only one annual pass to one resort.

I talked to guest relations at DL and if people have an expire AP this year and want to upgrade to the premier pass, they can, but when it gets to the expiration date of your original pass, you have to pay another full price for the premier if you want to continue.

That is a lot of money to upgrade to the premier when you can only have it for 3 months and I have to renew it later in June. But it might be worth it when I am going to WDW. I will be at the park for 6 days and it might pay for the ticket ($283 with PH), parking ($14 a day($84)), food, and merchandise.

Then when it expires in June, I can go back to the premium pass at DL since I won't be going back to WDW for awhile.

I was worried about this... I'm hoping they change this or the person you talked to was wrong.

If they would've waited 1 more month we would have had both our APs and the auto upgrade uses the latest expiration date.

My WDW ap runs out in Dec... really bad timing to have to upgrade both passes.

It's like a Disney dream come true for sooooo many. Now, about that airfare..... drat double drat.

Very cool pass!

Auto-Upgrades
Guests who held as of March 1, 2010 any valid Disneyland Resort Annual Passport AND one of the following Walt Disney World Resort Annual Passes will receive a complimentary Disney Premier Passport by mail:
  • (Florida Resident) Premium Annual Pass
  • (Florida Resident) Annual Pass
  • Florida Resident Seasonal Pass
  • Florida Resident Weekday Select Pass
...

Just imagine the people out there (if there are any) who have the So. Cal. Select AP and the FL Resident Weekday Select Pass. They now have a Premier AP. Talk about winning the Disney lottery! :cool1:

I'm thinking this may work for us. I'm going to have to sit down and do some major Mickey math.

We were planning on buying 6 day hoppers for DL for an October 2010 trip and then will be returning to WDW in May 2011 for probably 7 days.

I'm wondering when renewal time comes around for us will we be eligible for the renewal discount if at that time we only want a WDW AP? Also I'm wondering if I should buy this summer before ticket prices go up even though we won't need the passes until October?

So many decisions to make...

Make sure that you do the math on it...we've got passes for DLR (4 days at $161) and are toying with a WDW AP. We wouldn't buy the Premium Pass at WDW, so we're looking at $489. Combined, it's $650, less than the Premier Pass.

I definitely agree about this, do the math and make sure to take into account all the discounts (like DVC) you could get when getting the regular AP's and deals on park hopper's. If you are not going to go to both parks for enough days in that years time, then the Premier Pass would cost you more.

Can anybody confirm that you can use a GAD to upgrade to a premier passport? :confused3

I was surprised and ran the numbers. Yes, it is cheaper by $40.60.

WDW 6 Day Hopper w/tax: $301.40
Deluxe DL AP's: $358.00
Total: $659.40

But the Deluxe DL AP does not include parking, which is $14 per visit. And there are 50 (?) blackout dates. In addition, the 6 day parkhoppers at WDW don't include either water park.

So there is value for the additional $40.60, but only if those things are worth it to you, or you believe you'll end up spending that much additional (or more) anyway.

You might want to recheck those numbers...

DL Deluxe AP $299 ($279 for DVC members)
WDW 6 day parkhopper $280 (from Undercovertourist, includes tax & shipping)
Total $559

That's a $163 per person difference, for children it's even more. Yes, if it was closer to a $40-$50 difference I would be buying one hands down.

Parking isn't a benefit to us as we stay on-site so it's already included. We rarely have a long enough visit at WDW to go to the water parks.
