Been off the boards for just a little bit because I have been researching Las Vegas. We just got back from a week there, which was 3/4th company funded. Very first time there. I will elaborate more lately, but let me tell you, Disney has got nothing on Vegas in regards to pricing!!
🤑🤑🤑
I had only like two months to research and plan, but Disney can be a bargain compared to Vegas. Looking forward to comparing pricing aspects and such here soon with ya'll.

As expensive as Disney can be I’ve found any other trip I’ve taken has been just as expensive. I’d love to read a Vegas Trip Report

Not to mention the fact that Las Vegas is a rated R city… if you think your whole fam can enjoy the city, think again! Most attractions are either a form of gambling or blatantly adult material that you wouldn’t even dare enjoy together. Las Vegas is clearly meant for adults. Now if you have family who lives down there, that’s an exception.

We gambled $40. Me, hubby and adult daughter had the time of our lives last week! We weren't expecting to have loved it soooo much! All family friendly activities. But the pricing was insane!! Thankfully, we did have help, as it was a company sponsored trip with my husband.

And consider yourself lucky to have that !
Not everybody has one of those….I am jealous !
But experiencing the Wizard of Oz at the Sphere was worth every penny !

I agree Las Vegas was more expensive than a trip to Disney .
Don’t know why I thought it would be cheaper.

If anybody wants to research a trip I recommend staying at the Venetian to book their package including tickets and easy walk to the Sphere
My souvenir was a Las Vegas Starbucks mug!

I actually didn't catch the apple, but I found it below a seat on the way out. When they released the apples it appeared to me that far fewer apples were let go verses what I seen in You Tube videos during the weeks prior. I could be wrong, but I do know for a fact that they added several more shows due to demand, during the end of my stay and into early October. Thus, possibly cutting back on the amount of the foam souvernir to cover the added shows? Just a thought.

Charging $10 to blow up a pool float at MGM Grand is just evil. We brought our own floats with a small electric pump that did the trick!!

And want to check in at your hotel (NYNY) and speak with a real person about doing so or about your room, ect- cha-ching!!🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑 Unreal!😆😆😆😆😆

We were surprised with early check IN extra fee !
But I would gladly pay that at Disney if it guaranteed an available room for early check in .

I agree. I wouldn't mind paying such if the fee is reasonable, along with the timing being reasonable. I once was quoted $50 to get into my room one hour early in Destin, Fl. I passed.

Back in the days when travel was huge Nevada would always air commercials because Nevada was a top state for travel and the two top cities in Nevada that people visited a lot were Las Vegas and Reno but today you see less Reno commercials and more commercials for Las Vegas. Because for some people a vacation to Las Vegas is a one time deal and visiting Las Vegas for first timers is like a child experiencing Walt Disney World or Disneyland for the very first time. But for comparison to Disney Parks when you book a Las Vegas vacation you look for deals on packages that come with additional perks. Like Disney resorts do with character dining and park tickets Las Vegas hotels have perks like dining packages show packages and vouchers for perks at the casinos and when you look through the telescope planning a Las Vegas vacation is just like planning a family vacation to Disneyland or Walt Disney World. But I do agree that Las Vegas is strictly adult oriented because you hardly see it targeted at families even in commercials. But I think Las Vegas will begin to lower it's hotel prices once they have gained their new image which is the senior citizen crowd of 65-75 and Disney will earn second place in travel destinations

I will admit i had only two months to research and plan for this unexpected trip. I was certainly not familiar with such little time, but I did my best. The greed there just seems like it hits at a higher level. No shame what so ever. 😆 Guaranteed connecting rooms, that will come to $40 each night. We didn't have a mini bar in our room, but some of the hotels that do will charge you $50 if you unplug the one that they have placed in your room.

And dynamic pricing is in full force at many places. (more than just at the hotels on the strip) No prices in sight. This will become the norm everywhere at some point, but it is just a really crazy atmosphere for those of us that are not impacted by such right now.

Had a wonderful time in the MGM Grand lazy river. But if you forget to bring your own pool float, no worries, they will rent you one for $40. Because that $55 resort fee each night covers so many amenities, but just not a pool float!😅😅😅😅😅

I agree. My trips to Disney, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, cruising, Amsterdam, US National Parks all come in close to the same price and all tend to be expensive.

Vegas was so much better when the Mob ran it, but now it's just corporate greed and has lost its charm. I would love to go stay at the Bellagio (the fountains!) and visit the other hotels but there is no way I am paying those prices for the privilege.

Is it greed or is it capitalism? Also, there are expenses to businesses with ever piece of behavior, request, action from their guests.

Although likely not at the expense of $40 for connecting rooms, hoteliers do have costs associated with making that happen for you. There are computer programs that can do room assignments but they need human intervention for special requests. It is not always quick to shuffle rooms around to honor the many requests that they receive.

For the minibar, if stocked and you unplug it, $50 is not unreasonable as the candy, soda, and other items that change with temperature may have to be replaced. The next guest is not going to want a Hershey bar that has turned white because of going from hot to cold to hot to cold. Ever had a flat coke from a can that was just opened. It likely was cooled and then warmed up.

There is labor involved in blowing up that pool float you mentioned in another post. Also, the added labor of fishing the ones out that are left in the water.

That resort fee? Added so that the daily rate didn’t have to see such a big increase. They say the fee covers parking (not always), use of pool towels, wifi, etc. but it also covers the common space toilet flushes, wear and tear, etc. This used to all go into the room rate calculation.

Great that you got to go the Sphere!

Would you elect to go back over going to Disney?

YES!!!!!! DH and I talk about that a lot. So many people complain about how expensive Disney World is but any time I try to price out anything else it very quickly gets very close to a WDW vacation.

I once looked at flying out to Las Vegas, renting a car, and road tripping to the Grand Canyon, Arches, and Hood Ornament Valley and such and was shocked how expensive it was. Hotels near national parks are exorbitant and not nearly as nice as most Disney resorts.

A ski vacation? Forget it. Our local ski hill, can't call it a mountain, during peak periods is $160 for a lift ticket and ski rental. Resorts out west are often $250 or more a day just for a ticket.
