Goodnight my dear DIS friends--- Gotta get some sleep cause it's back to work bright and early in the AM...

Man are we going to shock everyone in the morning---- Those DISers who only DIS during the week are going to have a lot to catch up on!!!!

You are so right LizA!!! I have you written on my agenda too... I'm going to look for you at the bus stops! And you'll have to look for my decorated door!

Wouldn't that be fun??!!! See each other bright and early; excited for a fun day in the parks????

That would be fun!! Do you plan to spend any time at the pools? We are planning to take afternoon breaks for the girls to swim. And I'm sure they will want to swim some at night too!!

I may get to be on sometime during the day tomorrow..oldest DD fell yesterday and may have broken her wrist again!! She fractured the growth plate at the beginning of the school year and had to wear a removeable cast for 6 weeks. Yesterday morning when I was picking her up from the slumber party they were playing outside and she slipped on a little hill and tried to catch herself by putting her hand down...when we got home she immediately put her cast back on. She says it still hurts today. I hate it because if it is broken she will have to wear the cast while we are on our trip to DC. I guess we'll see what the Dr says in the morning. For those of you who wouldn't mind please keep her in your prayers. :goodvibes

Oh dear! Definitely will say a prayer it isn't broken and she's fine in the morning.

I'll say a prayer for her, too. Avery broke her foot when she was 3 1/2. She was playing in a bounce house and another kid landed on her foot, and broke it through the growth plate. She only had her "pink leg" 2 weeks, though. I should mention that this was 6 months after she cracked her cheekbone by falling and hitting a chair... had a black eye for 5 weeks! My Drs know me pretty well, or I would worry about the questions they would ask!

We came through the storms with no other real problems, thank God! I think they have finally cleared out, but we had several inches of rain. We lived here through Hurricane Fran in 1996, and that was horrible. We had a tree hit our house across the peak of the roof, and the hole was 10'x40'. The water damage caused the ceilings to collapse in the kitchen, breakfast room, den, and dining room. The downstairs (finished basement) was under 6 inches of water. We had no power or water for 10 days, and it took 16 months to get the house repaired... $110K in damage. Now you know why weather freaks me out!!:scared1:

Thank you!! Sounds like Avery had a rough time then!! It's only been 8 months since she broke it the 1st time so I expect it to be broken again.

I'm glad your bad weather is gone. We were supposed to have very bad weather yesterday but luckily it passed to the south of us. We only had light rain & some thunder. I don't blame you for getting nervous at bad weather since you had that experience from Fran!! I never thougth that we would ever have to worry about hurricanes since we live 4 1/2 hours from the AL coast. But both Ivan & Katrina came thru here. The kids were out of school and my work was closed for 2 days during Ivan. We had some siding blow up and some decorative molding on our house broke during Katrina. We have joked that we don't need snow days just hurricane days for the kids. My oldest will be 11 in June and has only seen snow once and it was just a about an 1/2 inch then!!

We generally get 1 or 2 snows a year, but they are usually just dustings. This year we had 2 snow days, but they only had to make up one. I planned our trip last Oct, so I made it a week after school let out... just in case!

what is snow? We have seen more rain than snow the past few years. Heck we even had a 'hurricane'

That sounds like a good plan!! I think it's odd how schools around the country are so different. My DD's school gets out the Thursday before Memorial Day (5/23, I think). For crowds and weather we should have probably gone Memorial Day week but we really wanted to do this for their birthdays so we decided to wait until the end of June. Maybe next time we will try for right after school gets out.

We're celebrating Tucker's birthday when we go, but it is really May 22. We will also celebrate Avery's preschool graduation. We can't go over Tucker's birthday, even if I was the type to pull my kids out of school, as that is when they have their end-of-grade testing. We are having to squeeze this vacation in, as they will start back to school on July 9. UGH!!

Those hurricane remnants are rough... we get those, too. I have friends around Boone, NC who were flooded into their home a couple of years ago when the 2 hurricanes came through back to back. The bridge got washed out, and they couldn't get out of their neighborhood for several days.

We had one of the ones come through after Katrina. It just kind of stayed over us and rained and rained. They closed the schools but I still had to go, campus hasn't closed in oh 5 or more years.

My daughter just finished 2 weeks of testing!! They have gotten so strict on these tests lately. DD needed to catch up on her reading to get all of her AR points by the end of this past week so I asked her one day if she read after she finished her test...she said that they were not allowed to read because they might read something that would help them on the test :confused3 :confused3 !! So they just had to sit there or put their head down until the time was up for that particular section of the test!! That is just crazy to me!!

When DH & I were in college ours never closed either...our local ones have closed a couple of times for different weather reasons and we always say that they need to be tough like us and go to class anyway...:rotfl:

It ain't cool. It's just as dangerous for us as it is for students especially when you have teachers who enforce attendance.

You are right!! We were fortunate when we were in school there was only 1 snow & it was in April and then some tornados but they all seemed to come thru in the late afternoons or at night when our classes were over. We went to UofA in Tuscaloosa which is part of tornado alley here in Alabama.

It's the same way with work...I know my employer gets really aggrivated when the schools close and a lot of us have to leave to get our kids but they might as well let everyone go because no one is really concentrating on work, most people are keeping an eye on the weather.

I live on the cumberland plateau and I can't drive when it's bad outside, snow wise. I live five minutes from campus but there are people who come from mountains. it would take a bad snow for them to close us. Some teachers of mine don't care if you come or not as long as you turn the stuff in. Then there are some who are like you must be here, if you miss so many times you drop a grade.

I didn't like teachers like that!!

Me either, some are understanding but some of it is based off the school.

Do have good news, found out I made yearbook staff at my campus. I'll find out more info about what I'm doing but I'm on student life and I'm working with one of my really good guy friends. So yay for money, well as of next semester it will be money.
