Are you serious???? We've done scared them off!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I personally am now turning my sour grapes into wine. I just received a phone call that after my father's colonoscopy this morning, it appears he has colon cancer. Suddenly, making magic at Disney isn't quite as important as doing what I can at home. :wizard:

I have been lurking on this board as it has the best discussion about the CMO finalistists. I too entered and had fast forwarded in my brain to being "the chosen one"...and not getting a call is certainly disheartening. I echo the sour grapes and "bummer!" feeling many of you have expressed.

The above quote put it all in perspective for me though, thanks for the reality check. I have a trip planned to DLR in April and likely another in October, so what do I have to complain about?!

Congrats to the finalists. Like most things in life, not everyone can win.:goodvibes

So is it your take that this was purely a video application and the written part was just for fluff?

No, definitely not. However, I think that the video is a HUGE part of the judging. I don't care how incredible a written portion was... if the video wasn't good, there would be no hope of making it as a finalist.

I guess I also don't equate special effects/animation/CG with video quality.[/quote

I don't either. Several of the known finalists used little to no special effects or animation. On the flip side, MANY people used the standard pixie dust or "snap" transformation special effects and didn't make it. It's all about originality and creativity, regardless of special effects.

But it's very clear that a stellar video is what's expected for any future job openings/contests of this nature from Disney and that applicants should be prepared to spend the time, energy and potentially funds to make it professionally produced.

That I will definitely agree with. If it's a video contest, you should have a high quality video in the same way that if it's an essay contest, you should be a great writer or if it's a singing contest you need to be able to sing well.

It appears more that the video was the criterion that mattered most.

That's true and it was pretty clear to me that it was the case. Look at this page:
http://www.dreamcmo.com/guidelines.php

It makes no mention of the written portion but tells you very clearly how they'd be judging the videos.

In this case, since it's a video "job application", it's the equivalent of a resume. Would you go to an employer with a resume that was printed on crumpled paper in a hard-to-read font? Of course not. You'd want your resume to be easy on the eyes, full of important facts about you, and to be clear and concise.

Okay, the grapes aren't quite turned to wine yet!!

I just had to comment one thing about this. I think you are absolutely right! Which is why it makes no sense that there is a video with no facts about the entrant at all, their qualifications or love of Disney.

HMF - Just couldn't help it given the recent news. I think I'm officially over the edge! :scared1:

TC - I really hope they have not been scared off. I would love to see the other top 20 videos and help cheer for them as well.

Come on winners - please pop in and tell us- give us the link to your video.

Everyone here IS happy for the winners. We are just sad we are not one of them! :goodvibes

I thought I'd chime in here for just a second. I was a winner in the pirate category in 2007 and used ZERO CG effects in my video. I tried to make a quality video and used our children's ministry room as a backdrop and dressed and acted as a pirate. I just tried to do what they asked for: character & personality, humor, originality and entertainment. I know enough editing just make me dangerous. :rotfl:

You can find my video on youtube by searching for kennythepirate. Because I'm new it wouldn't let me post the link.

I feel that they look for the people who demonstrate that the best, if they can add to their presentation with CG, great. Sometimes it would just take away from the presentation. The ones that have become finalists thus far are very deserving. I'm sure that the quality of the video presentation was still important to the contest again this year, even though they added the questionairre.

So is it your take that this was purely a video application and the written part was just for fluff? I guess my interpretation of the rules wasn't as clear cut as yours. I guess I also don't equate special effects/animation/CG with video quality. I completely agree that you shouldn't be dressed like a bum and should be easy to understand. But it's very clear that a stellar video is what's expected for any future job openings/contests of this nature from Disney and that applicants should be prepared to spend the time, energy and potentially funds to make it professionally produced.

What I think people are disappointed about is that it didn't appear that only your video would be judged. The rules stated that your commentary on why you were the best person for the job was what needed to be in the video and then you'd be judged on the 5 criteria. The website didn't ask for who had the best video; it asked for who had the ability to spread magic and make dreams come true. So it is logical for potential entrants to believe that if they can get that across in their entry that it will be considered. It doesn't appear that that was the case. It appears more that the video was the criterion that mattered most.

In one part of the rules it stated 100mb limit....then on the entry screen 50mb.

My son and I searched for hours for special effects that could add to my entry only to be amazed by how much space it took up with the limits. So I decided to do what the rules asked - and present myself with energy and tried to add humor.

I was even apprehensive about putting a Disney doll in the video....I wasn't sure if we could use a Disney font. All original - never before bla bla bla. And there wasn't anywhere to clarify these issues.

I am wondering with the guy that put in all the, what appeared to be, Disney type animation from the Inside the Magic Board, great effects but more for a Animation Apprentice.

My sour grapes are that I thought all that would disqualify you because it wasn't YOU. It was all animation and effects.

And another thing...

The rules said the winners would be contacted by e-mail and overnight delivery...nothing about by phone!!!

What a bummer when we're all dreaming about today and the rug gets yanked up from under us a day before!!!:sad1:

Tracey, I am sending prayers for your DD's continued good progress!:grouphug:

Hit the nail right on the head.

In fact, most of last year's winners used zero effects in their videos. I used minimal effects, but I don't think they really helped me much. It was all about content and character.

Our characters were obvious last year as we were trying to emulate existing CM roles. This year, it was all about inventing what you thought a CMO should be. Obviously the judges have their own notion of what a CMO should be and if yours happened to line up with theirs, then it worked out for you.

I respectfully disagree on some.... but that is a matter of opinion. When it all comes down to it that is all it is... "opinion".

Hey Tony! I've lurked here for a while, but thought it was time to chime in. You did a great job on your video fellow pirate!

I just wanted to let you all know that I figured out how to bring the magic back to my saddened heart.

Music - Disney Music to be more precise. I am now listening to my favorite style of music, and smiling!

Congrats to the finalist:goodvibes

I would have never made a video clip if it wasn't for this contest. I've now realized how easy it is to use the moviemaker program that has been on my computer for years! I have my entry video and I put together a blooper video with all the outtakes. My children and family have had hours of laughter watching themselves on film with the "few" special effects I've learned in the last few weeks.

When I saw some of the excellent videos loaded on the dreamcmo site, I knew my chance of making it to the next round was slim.:confused3

I had a friend remind me that this experience, the mom panel contest, and all the time I devote to all things Disney are moving me one step closer to building my Disney resume. We definately have a chance to learn from these contests.

I just want to say... bring on the next contest - I'm ready!:cheer2:

And I really HAVE lost 60 lbs working out while listening to "Go the Distance" from Hercules!

Thanks for reminding me of what I love!!!!!

lol Ann - I should try that! Now if they would just put Disney Music on my DDR I would be even more magically happy!

(But I still have not given up on that phone call - until we know that 20 have been selected I have to hold out hope)

Hey as long as someone mentioned music - there's something that's been bothering me. The rules stated no music or the video would be disqualified.

As I watched the posted videos, I felt so bad for people who were singing, not realizing that would be counted as music.

Well...Trippy's video has his kids singing, and he made the cut. How is singing not music? If you start singing a song on a tv show, even without music, the show has to pay for rights.

I'm glad that's not what elimitated some people I liked, but I sure would have wanted to know we could sing a capella.
