To TLP127,

I know it seems odd to say thank you when you are wrestling with such sad news, but thank you for helping us all keep things in perspective. Please know that I'll be praying for your dad and your family. I'm sure you are someone who can bring a smile to his face during this tough time . . .

************** and kennythepirate:

I think your videos from last year are what gave a lot of us a different idea about what was being looked for in this contest.

They were fabulous because your love of Disney, specifically the particular rides, came shining thru. The videos were very well done, and genuine, but they weren't "slick". They seemed to match who you are. (Oooh, hope you're not offended I don't consider you slick!)

I guess the standard you set last year required them to up the ante and require even more this year!:)

Also, if jennifer6800 is out there - - - I guess I'm still to new here to be allowed to respond to private messages, but THANK YOU!

Justin, I really loved your video by the way!

I had seen it before your link was here and thought THAT is funny and engaging and LOVED the rolling chair from the window view!!!

Good luck!

<<<< picking you to precariously live through!

Thanks Ann. I really appreicate that!

TLP, my prayers are with you and your father. I lost my father to cancer last June. I remember the day he called to tell me that he was sick and its just not something I would want anyone else to have to go through.

The day you get that phone call is a bad day, but there are many, many good days ahead!

Yeah, all of the finalists from last year's contest had amazing videos. And there have been amazing ones this year too! Some made it and some didn't...but I am already looking forward to what Career builder and Disney come up with for next year's contest! I am already stirring my pixie dust in preparation.

And finalists...will you PLEASE keep us posted on all of the exciting things going on with the contest? I know everyone here would love to hear about it...and if you make it to the competition in Disney World, please take some behind the scenes pics! I can't wait to see what types of things you will have to do in Disney World!!!

Good luck on your phone interviews!!! We can't wait to hear from you :hourglass

I'm sorry to hear your news, TLP127. I spent 3 of my years in high school taking care of my mom while she battled breast cancer (thank goodness she's alright now) and I know how time-consuming and emotionally taxing taking care of a family member who's dealing with a serious illness can be. Looking back, there's no way I'd be able to do that AND be the best ever CMO, so in a way it really is good that you didn't win because now you can be there for your dad when he needs you most.

After being able to lick my wounds and "get over" my sour grapes, I truly believe that things happen for a reason and that maybe something even better than the CMO job is coming my way that having the CMO job may have conflicted with (like winning that contest to spend the night in the DL Dream Suite).

Hey as long as someone mentioned music - there's something that's been bothering me. The rules stated no music or the video would be disqualified.

As I watched the posted videos, I felt so bad for people who were singing, not realizing that would be counted as music.

Well...Trippy's video has his kids singing, and he made the cut. How is singing not music? If you start singing a song on a tv show, even without music, the show has to pay for rights.

I'm glad that's not what elimitated some people I liked, but I sure would have wanted to know we could sing a capella.

I am sure the "no music" rule was simply for legal reasons. If Disney owns the rights to the song and doesn't have to pay royalties to the performers (as they would if you used a recorded version of a song) there isn't a problem. It's harder to explain that than it is to just say "no music."

I want to echo those who have already said to the Top 20, congratulations! PLEASE don't hesitate to post here. I think I speak for most of us when I say that although we wish we could be celebrating, too, that we're happy for you, impressed by your videos, and want to hear all of the exciting details as you move forward! ... I know this is true of ME, at least, so if you don't want to post the details will you PM them to me?? :rotfl2:

As for the entries...

I tried to focus my video on the 80% of the scoring that dealt with "imaginative presentation," "ability to make people laugh," etc. I hoped that the 20% of the score that was "Passion for Disney" would show through even though I didn't specifically list the 1,000 things I love about all things Disney... I just felt like it would take SO much of the 60 seconds to run through them... plus I REALLY worked hard on my answers to the questionnaire in the hope that it would come across.

I don't fault ANYBODY for being disappointed. I have no doubt that I will feel the same if and when the contest moves forward without me. Walt Disney gets a great deal of press for being a "dreamer," but very often people forget that he was a "doer" too. All of you who entered have lived up to the legacy by dreaming AND acting on that dream. So I congratulate you all, sincerely.

Here, Here! I second all that Fleagle said!

Wow - thanks to both of you for understanding how we feel. Not mad at you, just upset we aren't 'with' you!

And thanks for saying we are all 'doer's. I liked hearing that!

I actually just wrote a nice long article about this on my site since I had been writing about the experience. It made me realize that while I may not have been selected, this is something I enjoyed doing, and will never forget.

I can't wait to see the rest of the top 20 videos!

I'm so curious if the guy that had the cardboard cutouts made the final 20... his was by far my favorite. And I'm sure this is bucking the "all happy all the time" Disboard trend... but of the finalists that I've seen only one has really stood out for me.

Justin, Fleagle, and other top 20ers:

Really, I think most of us are just venting. I know I've been obsessing about this the past couple weeks, and the people around me were kind of tired hearing about it before we even got to this point! :)

It's only human to be disappointed and envious, and I for one don't have any one else to express this to who will understand.

So that's what's going on today. If you'll give us a little time for the pity party, we'll bounce back soon!

I sincerely like all the videos we know have moved on, and I really DO want to know about the other 13!

Go Justin, Fleagle, and the rest!

catotigger - I agree with you. It's nice to have some one else who understands and who will listen to us vent. I'm a bit disappointed but pretty much expected it. Oh well, at least we gave it a shot and should be proud of ourselves for giving it a try.

Hi everyone! Back again after picking up the kids and singing Disney tunes in the car for the past hour. Thanks for the music idea. OK, no more sour grapes! I also want to hear from the winners and REALLLY love all the finalists we've seen so far. I had a great time doing this and want to make a out takes video too! I have one scene where I was yelling at my Donald Duck/ Pirate husband for running too slow and we titled it "CMOzillas"!
I learned alot, bonded with old friends who helped me with the process and met alot of great new people (You all included). I realized the magic isn't over because my boys are still running around singing "OOBIDO, I want to make your dreams come true!" and I inspired three friends and coworkers to book Disney trips they have been putting off. There's some real life pixie dust!:wizard:
Justin and Fleagle thanks for not getting scared off by negative comments. You guys are great and I for one will support you!:cheer2:
TLP, God Bless your Dad. I'm an RN and see medical miracles happen everyday so hold on to that.
Take care all and be good to each other. I'm off to work. :grouphug:

To those who feel shafted, I’m sorry! :sad1:

Warning: I’m going to play “devil’s advocate” for a moment, so go easy when you flame me! ;)

Is it possible that the folks at Disney didn’t intentionally set out with only one “look” that they absolutely knew they were destined to pick: “Gee, folks! We’re going to have a contest, and we’re only going to consider the apps that roll in from clean-cut, white, thirty-something men…”

I’m guessing that they cast the net wide, so to speak, because they didn’t want to limit themselves. They wanted to see what was out there and to allow their large Disney fan-base (which sounds like it’s dwindling by the minute ;) ) to have some fun in the process.

That said, only Disney knows the specifics of the job that the company has in mind for its CMO winner. And, as Justin M said, “I'm sure they have a 'look' in mind based on the specific responsibilities that they know they want this person to fulfill.”

One thing I am sure of: You can bet the judges are looking closely for specific qualities that are necessary for performing those responsibilities. Those are the “non-negotiables” on the judges’ checklist.

In the process, I’m sure that certain biases may have entered into the picture. (For example, I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but I always envisioned any female candidate as sort of an older, pleasantly plump matronly type. ‘Kind of an extension of Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, I guess. It’s a good thing that I wasn’t on that panel, huh? I might have ruled out disneydaisy. ...Very cute video, btw! You have a lot of charisma! :thumbsup2)

Regarding any abundance of on-air personalities, I’m thinking that it’s definitely an advantage for an applicant to do radio/voice-over work. That job title says it all: In just a few words, it’s understood that the person has made a career out of public speaking.

Okay. I’ve probably said too much… :flower3: I realize you probably already know all of this anyway … ;) As several people have admitted, you're simply working through the disappointment.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program: "Rabbit stew anyone?" :lmao: (Funny post, HauntedMansionFan! Twisted... But funny! ;) )
