This thread just barely started and I am already behind!
Hi everyone! My name is Shanna.
I have been lurking in the other for quite some time, trying to catch up. But, that was impossibleMaybe now I stand a chance
So, bad news you were moved, good news I feel like I can jump in now.
You all inspired me to get my sewing machine fixed. Making my daughter clothes for DW is my new obsession.
We are planning our first trip to DW in April. I am just beside myself excited.
Welcome - I'm a newbie too

That dress is adorable and I love the tutu! May I ask exactly how you did this. I'm so new to sewing I've only done some PJ pants for my family as practice but I picked up some tulle to make dd some dance tutu's.
Oh another quick question for anyone out there. I picked up some black knit with spandex in it from the remanents pile the other day. Its very stretchy just like her other dance clothes. I really want to make her a simple short circle skirt to practice in but i dont know how to make the waist. Should I put elastic in it with a simple casing but I'm afraid of the look of that. Or should I use elastic thread since the fabric itself is so stretchy? Thanks in advance for your help!
Thanks - There are a few no sew tutu tutorials around (check the first post for a page of links I think I saw one in there).
I do mine differently (I was making them for a long time before I found out there was an easier way
typical, there is always an easier way lol) Anyway I use non roll elastic to fit around waist and then I attach a ribbon to each end. I cut all the tulle into strips then gather over the elastic and sew using a 3stage zigzag in whatever colour pattern I like. I like doing it this way as I don't lose any of the tulle if the knot comes undone. Also with the ribbon closure makes it adjustable so a wider range of sizes can wear it (this particular one fits a 6mth old up to a 5year old approx) HTH
I haven't made anything. I'm playing with the stitches and making sure I know where everything is. I am currently searching online to see if I can find a users manual for the machine. It was one mom bought at a yard sale many years ago. She wanted to buy me a new one yesterday and I told her not unless I start sewing. If I start sewing regularly, I'll take her up on that. In the mean time, I'm hoping I can find a user manual online. I was able to find one online for mom for her knitting machine that she got second hand.
Such cute pictures! I love the one of DS and Lilo, that is just too precious!
to the newbie!!! I'm glad you decided to jump in. Good luck keeping up with the new thread, it seems to be moving even faster than the old one!!
Where's the ripper??? The shirt is cute too- my ds would where that- I'm working my way up to sleeves and collars.
Didn't know I was missing that much!!
SO GREAT!!!
retro inspired style where I was trying out one of my late night thinkings lol
