This thread just barely started and I am already behind!

Hi everyone! My name is Shanna.

I have been lurking in the other for quite some time, trying to catch up. But, that was impossible :) Maybe now I stand a chance :) So, bad news you were moved, good news I feel like I can jump in now.

You all inspired me to get my sewing machine fixed. Making my daughter clothes for DW is my new obsession.

We are planning our first trip to DW in April. I am just beside myself excited.

Welcome - I'm a newbie too :)

That dress is adorable and I love the tutu! May I ask exactly how you did this. I'm so new to sewing I've only done some PJ pants for my family as practice but I picked up some tulle to make dd some dance tutu's.

Oh another quick question for anyone out there. I picked up some black knit with spandex in it from the remanents pile the other day. Its very stretchy just like her other dance clothes. I really want to make her a simple short circle skirt to practice in but i dont know how to make the waist. Should I put elastic in it with a simple casing but I'm afraid of the look of that. Or should I use elastic thread since the fabric itself is so stretchy? Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks - There are a few no sew tutu tutorials around (check the first post for a page of links I think I saw one in there).

I do mine differently (I was making them for a long time before I found out there was an easier way  typical, there is always an easier way lol) Anyway I use non roll elastic to fit around waist and then I attach a ribbon to each end. I cut all the tulle into strips then gather over the elastic and sew using a 3stage zigzag in whatever colour pattern I like. I like doing it this way as I don't lose any of the tulle if the knot comes undone.

Also with the ribbon closure makes it adjustable so a wider range of sizes can wear it (this particular one fits a 6mth old up to a 5year old approx) HTH

Thank you! I love the look of the seperated tulle strips. Looks so cute when they twirl and they all flip up!!! Dumb question but are you sewing with the zig zag directly through the elastic or just under it like a casing?

Onto the elastic - slightly stretching as I go. I also sometimes do the loop (where you pull the tails through the loop at the top) but it depends how much time I have - I find it quicker to just gather and sew :) knotting each piece of tulle is too time consuming imo :)

I have GOT to get internet at home so I can keep up w/ ya'll better. That and a job that doesn't work me 24-7 so that I can actually get some sewing done.
What, are you going to get rid of your kids? :confused3
Glad you found us!!!

I actually have sewed on my sewing machine! :lmao: I haven't made anything. I'm playing with the stitches and making sure I know where everything is. I am currently searching online to see if I can find a users manual for the machine. It was one mom bought at a yard sale many years ago. She wanted to buy me a new one yesterday and I told her not unless I start sewing. If I start sewing regularly, I'll take her up on that. In the mean time, I'm hoping I can find a user manual online. I was able to find one online for mom for her knitting machine that she got second hand.
YAY!! You done sewed! We've got you now!

Look at her hamming it up in her Mickey shirt!! She is TOO cute!!

This shirt turned out really cute!

I'm intrigued, these look really cute on you!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of using the apple fabric to make a Snow White outfit! The fabrics you got to go with Marie look great and so do the fabrics to go with Pooh! I'm so jealous of all this fabric you're getting!

You CAN sew! I was really scared to do sleeves when I first started sewing, so you're already one step ahead!

Yes, when people say boys are so much harder than girls, I just shake my head. I cannot believe that sweet-faced Tessa was a stinker, lol!

This calls for some pictures!:rotfl:
She's 10 months old in these pictures:

She's getting ready to try to climb the stairs for the 100th time that day in the last picture.
There are so many more where these came from, but you get the idea of how busy she was, and at a young age!!

We saw Jiminy twice in MK in November. Both times he was just inside the gates on the right at the foot of the steps of whatever that shop is (ggggrrrrrr!) maybe something-or-other Emporium? Anyway it's the first one on the right as you walk in & it's huge.

This is dd4 & my Mom who LOVES Jiminy

You mom looks so cute in this picture!! DD does, too, but that goes without saying!!

Thank you everyone for your help with my shorts. I spent some quality time with my seam ripper after putting the kids to bed DH says that I should start a sewing blog to journal my progress, and I have to put that picture on there so I can look back one day and laugh at it. LOL Anyway, here's the final product....

th_IMG_3740p.jpg

I am also wondering if you try and match up the print on your shorts/shirts...obviously mine isn't since rocket is chop off on the front.

Thanks again....I will come back and get caught up with the rest of the post but I wanted to do a quick post of the finished product.

Jenny

Yay!! That looks MUCH better! :thumbsup2 I never worry about trying to match the print up on anything. I think it would drive me insane if I tried that! I've never noticed a difference when people do that anyway!

here's a quick pic of DD in her "minnie ate the zoo" dress - which I think looked better on than laying on my messy bed. And one of DS and Lilo just cause it's cute!

Multi-quote is not working at the moment! GRRRRR....

Minnie ate the zoo dress! :rotfl2: Such cute pictures! I love the one of DS and Lilo, that is just too precious!

Okay, now there's nothing in the box at all when I click "quote" GRRR!!

Anyway, I wanted to comment on everything that I didn't comment on! LOL! I love the brown dress a few posts up!

:welcome: to the newbie!!! I'm glad you decided to jump in. Good luck keeping up with the new thread, it seems to be moving even faster than the old one!!

As for the elastic or elastic thread in the waistband question- I would do a casing and put elastic in it. You wouldn't want it falling off!

This is my last post for tonight, I promise! I really need to get to bed!!

How cute is she?!! She reminds me of my DD when she was a baby. She was always into something. Everyday she would empty her toybox and play with every toy in the box and every naptime and bedtime I would fill the box back up just to have it emptied the next time she was awake.

Sorry this is so blurry. It is a scanned picture, but it is DD and her mess.

Oh Man!! I posted some pics yesterday morning and was reading on page 30-something and now I come back and we're up to 40-something pages. I've been trying to catch up for over an hour. Everything is SOOOO cute! I'll have to start checking back more often so the projects don't "build up"!

Just had to say I've done this too- It's easy to flip it the wrong way and you really don't notice until you hold them up to admire your work and then it's what the..... :headache: Where's the ripper??? The shirt is cute too- my ds would where that- I'm working my way up to sleeves and collars.
That marie out fit will be really great I love the color combo.
I smell another "rule" coming-
Everyone Post pictures of your first sewing attempts- Whatever they are!!
Ok seriously- I haven't even caught up from saturday and you all were chatty again today-

Heather- I noticed you have a new siggy- I just about died laughing at your disney hating husband comment- and what cute doggy icons- looking forward to your pictures- maybe they are already there- I better get back t o reading!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE all the world pictures!! I don't have any crocs yet either :scared1: Didn't know I was missing that much!!

Ok before I forget- again- I wanted to say that my girl is way busier than my boy- as most of you know she broke her wrist 2 weeks after her first birthday!! She climbed up on ds toddler bed and didn't know how to get down and fell off!! She is BUSY!!! And the other one TALKS ALL THE TIME!!!! yak yak yak!!! I don't know what dh lets him watch but he has said he has a ghost in his room:confused3 And will keep coming out saying there are spooky noises, and that he needs a drink and has to go potty and wants to tell me something, I'm sure the excused will only get more creative but after all he is only 4:laughing:
Lori you did a great job!! I am now over my I want a baby phase and am no longing for dds hair to grow enough so she can wear beautiful bows like those- they are really cute!! And shirts  SO GREAT!!!
Do you have a joanns or quilt shop near by- you could check to see if they have any classes or instructors to help you get started!!
OHHHHHHH BELIEVE IT!!!! WOO!! She is so much better now though! Corey was pretty busy, but turned into a total terror at 18 months, I still remember the day! Arminda was the calm between the storms! She has always been extemely well behaved (if not overly sensitive at times!) I believe God gave me Arminda so that I could catch my breath before he sent Lydia my way! BUSY BUSY BUSY!!! She walked at 8 months, talked at 6 weeks, and has a temper to go with the red hair! Other than that, she is a little angel! Lydia has the attitude that she can do ANYTHING that Corey or Arminda can do! She doesn't seem to notice that Corey is 10 1/2 years older than her!
Like I said before I agree- Girls are busier!!!
Your moms shirt-:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I bet your dd was proud to wear- since she picked out the combo. Stitch is a lot of fun was he afraid??
That's more like it!! They are cute!! Are you making a matching shirt or an applique tee to go with them??

I just want to say everyone here is so absolutely talented! After reading through your post, I wanted to share with you something I made. Back in June my DD and I went to WDW with one of my best friends. She made all of our ressies and took care of calling and make any changes. I started thinking I wanted to do something special for her. Something as a reminder of our trip and what it meant to myself and DD for all the time she put into making it magical for us.
I made her this ragtime quilt.
th_SheanaSurprise2.jpg
I want to know how to make this to please- My grammy loves quilts- I would love to do it together!!
You are Talented- WOW I just did a little fabric painting at work today- It's kinda fun!!
I wanted to let everyone know that I heard from pixiedust_in_ak today (Amy). I know quite a few of us were worried about her since she hadn't posted in awhile. She says that she has been under the weather for awhile, but the baby is doing fine. She's due in about 6 weeks!
Hopefully, she starts feeling better soon!
I am glad you heard from her- I was just thinking about who we haven't heard from and how we could "find" them to let them know we are still here!!
Yay I managed some sewing today.

An altered version of a pillowcase dress - A :hippie: retro inspired style where I was trying out one of my late night thinkings lol :) . Seemed to work ok so I can put a tick on it for when my disney fabric arrives. Might even make myself one :)

I love that last one- She looks so innocent:angel: :stir: :scratchin
Mine has a bit of a temper too!! She wants what she wants and she wants it NOW!!! But only sometimes- other she is as sweet as sugar and you just want to eat her up!!:cutie:

OK I think I finally caught up now I can go to bed...

Good Morning early birds!!

Whoa! You guys sure have been busy!

Lots of great photos posted!

I had to laugh at the shorts sewn wrong! I did the same thing! I couldn't figure it out for the life of me! And then it hit me!

I still manage to somehow put pants or short patterns together wrong. The one thing that really helped me was to put a pin on the top of the back side to mark the back, and I put two pins on the top side of the front. As long as I know which way is up, I am good to go!

Ok, I'm trying to shop online for a ruffler and need help.

What's the difference between a ruffler and a gathering foot?

I have both a ruffler foot and a gathering foot, and honestly, I have not use the gathering foot at all. I have only use the ruffler foot and still trying to figure that thing out!

The shirt looks really good and I am sure no one will notice the buttons on the wrong side. I have yet to try buttonholes, so you are ahead of me!

I think we are all laughing because we all have done it! I know that I have! I hope you can figure it out, because it really is a quick fix. I remember when I did it, it took me about 30 minutes to figure out what I did wrong. I kept looking at the pattern and looking at the pants, completely lost!

I have avoided button holes for a while, but I felt bad that I haven't made my ds anything, and I am always dragging him to the fabric store with me when dd is in school...so I decided to try a shirt. The button hole wasn't as hard as I thought it would be....I practice on some scraps first, but the ones on the shirt still isn't perfect but hopefully, I have at least overcome my fear for buttonholes. I have yet to attempt zippers!
