When making a peasant dress to go under a jumper, how do you know how long to make it?

I'm wanting to make a white one for my dds, but it's not for any specific jumper. I want them to be able to wear it with lots of stuff. Any tips?

A freind of mine is making a casual princess outfit for for her dd for their trip to Disneyland in a couple of weeks, but she's not sure she likes the finished outfit.

Any suggestions on how to maybe make it better?

Where did you guys get the "big heads around the world" fabric? Or what is it called so I can search it? I just got Lily the cutest It's a Small World t-shirt and I want to make her a skirt to go with it and this fabric would be PERFECT!!!
This the one that I got.

I founf it at Hancock Fabrics. It is called "Friends around the World" by Trena Hagdahl Design Co. for Fabrics by Spectrix. I have a red fabric that has little tiny white dots on it. I plan on making a peasant under dress out of the red and using the flag material and making the Simply Sweet dress for the overdress.

I kind of knew I wanted it knee length...or just a tad above the knee. Then when I make the other dresses I will just make them a few inched shorter than the peasant dress.

I just got back from Wal-Mart and I found two placemats for 50 cents each. Of course I got both. NOw I can make the crayon thingy. I also found a Tinkerbell Window Valance for $2.50. I got it to make a skirt out of. I'm find it funny that I keep buying now clothes related items to make clothes out of.:lmao:

I made my daughter a crab outfit and it is the same -- it came from JoAnn's. At our store it was placed with the baby/nursery fabric.

I see it's already been answered, but Joanns had the crab fabric and a lot of coordinates. I found itin the baby/nursery section too. For the hoodie I used a McCall's sweatshirt pattern and just left the sleeves off.
How long ago was it there? I swear I have scoured that store, but I guess I'll be looking again. Does anyone have a close up of the fabric so I know exactly what I am looking for? What pattern # was the sweatshirt?

Maybe an applique of some kind? Flounder, the name Ariel out of a cute fabric?

My Joann's has a pre-made big Ariel applique that would look really cute on this outfit. I think the casual Princess outfits are a great idea for comfortable park touring!

I just got back from my Joann's and they still have the crab fabric. I think it is a Joann's exclusive fabric. The pattern for the hoodie was McCalls #4644.

Here's a close up of the fabrics...

You ran into another Diser in Pop's food court? Hmmm....strange.....I did, too!

It was so great to meet you! Your girls are very sweet. Alexis came and gave my kids and my nieces hugs when they were leaving. I wish we had gotten pics together! I wasn't even thinking.

I also met the Diser Sisters! I saw Heather & Teresa at AK on Friday. And here's the pic to prove it.
Colby's in the Mickey shorts, Heidi is wearing the pink Mickey peasant dress, me and my niece in our Mickey tie-dye shirts, Heather, Teresa, Tessa & Arminda, and Aleah in the princess dress.

Here are more pics from our trip. At the Pirate & Princess Party Friday night. My two girls are in the pirate skirts and Minnie tops.

At DHS on Saturday. (I just read someone else was there! I didn't see them, but did run into Heather again in line for Playhouse Disney.) Colby's wearing Nemo shirt and shorts, Heidi's in her Mickey & Minnie dress, nieces wearing the Mickey tie-dye's and Aleah in the Minnie peasant dress.

At Pop Century. My girls are wearing the Tinker Bell dresses, one niece in the Tinker Bell pillowcase dress, another in the Mickey tie-dye (we should've worn them all on the same day), Colby in his Mickey shirt and shorts. My other niece isn't wearing a custom!!! :scared1:

Not great pics, but it's the best I can do. My sister and I went with our 3 kids. No husbands. They wanted to stay home! Can you believe they missed a trip to the World?!?!

I saw you at AK on Friday-my DD had on her Buzz outfit. We were in line to see Baloo and I saw your DS & DD playing the drums. I couldn't find you after we saw Baloo. We went from AK to MK that day but didn't stay for the party.

And I saw the Tinkerbell dresses at Pop when I was at luggage services at Pop on Saturday. I cannot remember if it was when I was checking my stuff in for them to hold for the day or when I picked it up around 3pm. Were you at Epcot before opening on Saturday? I think I saw the Tink pillowcase dress then too and even pointed it out to my friend.

My friend who came down from Jacksonville to stay with us Friday night drove my DD & I back to Pop to catch the bus back to the airport. Then she and her DD went to the Studios and they did get to ride Toy Story Mania. She said the wait was about an hour but they really loved the ride.

Lots of terrific customs, as usual! :thumbsup2

My PSA for the day:

If you buy a Sidewinder be sure to check the bottom of the box to see if it works with your sewing machine model. I bought one for my mom for Mother's Day and we could not figure out why her bobbins would not fit. She looked at it again last night and noticed on the bottom of the box it has a list of machines that it is not compatible with. :headache: Yup, her machine is listed.

What is a sidewinder? I've been sewing forever and never heard of one! *LOL*

Hi, Here are some pictures from our trip.
The 30 dollar a night hotel is called the Howard Johnson Enchantedland. It's not enchanted by any means, but it does come with a coffee pot, microwave, refrig, and free breakfast.

It may not be enchanted, but it looks neat and clean. Just what's needed for a quick trip to the magic!

Looks like you had fun!

Question on how to store fabric....I bought some fabric at Joann's on Sunday and want to store it until next year when we go to disney October 09. Any suggestions on the best way to store it? I know to keep it out of direct light because of fading but is there anything else I should think about?

Wow, you saw us a lot! We were playing the drums at AK. And I remember seeing Baloo. But unfortunately, I didn’t see a Buzz dress.

We were also at Epcot before opening on Saturday. And must’ve been around the luggage area at Pop when you were, too. We stayed in the 50’s building, so passed by luggage many times.

We tried to see Toy Story Mania on Sunday. The queue area was darling! We waited in line for about 25 minutes before it broke down. :sad1: Oh, well, maybe next time.

WOW you are quick! Thanks a ton, guess it's off to Joanns when DS wakes up.

Hi..When were you there? It was breaking down on us too...so we never got to see it. We were at MGM on Sunday.

We were there Sunday until about 430 or so - We rode it around 3 and just as we finished the ride it broke! We could tell it was getting ready to go down because when we would pull up to a game it wasn't lined up right.

I need to get working on some non-disney things - I have some dresses and stuff to make - we're taking DD to see Lion King at the end of the month and I want to make her a dress! :) When I told DH his response was - do you have to make her something to go with everywhere we go... I just smiled and said - "Nope - I couldn't find any fabric for Gatorland that wasn't orange and blue" he just rolled his eyes at me.
:rotfl: :rotfl:

Okay - all the shopping that has been going on today. Just got back from Hancock's (thanks for the directions mommyof2princesess!) Got my Minnie Dot:cool1: and some fabric with the princesses on it. (don't know what I want to make with that! but I got it!) I also got the simplicity pattern. So...sewing I will go. :goodvibes
