I have a question for 2cutekidz and Aimeeg again!!!

I bought my softbooks to do the patchwork skirts along with my other fabric and I noticed that the softbook directions say not to prewash. Should I disregard this and wash it anyway with the rest of my fabric or should I leave it as is? Thanks so much for your help!

I did not prewash the storybook. The skirt has been washed and it came out great!! DH did the laundry, so it went in the wash on WARM water and into a high heat dryer!!! Like I said, (luckily) it still looks great!! Can't wait to see yours !!

OK... question....

Has anyone bought/seen the Disney Fabric Art squares? What I want to know is... does anyone know what these really look like? What I want to know is, are the images printed like it would be for any fabric you can by at a store? Is the image more like it would be on a tshirt (and could possibly crack?)

I am interested in maybe purchasing a few to cut up and put in a quilt. I don't want to purchase one if I can't use it... but I don't know how to know if it would be usable w/o seeing one. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. I hope my question isn't too confusing; I'm not sure I really understand what I'm trying to say myself.

thanks in advance!

I forgot... you can search :wizard: for disney fabric art square to see what I'm talking about. I wasn't sure if I could steal a picture from there or not? :confused3

Where did you find the cloth books? The skirt is adorable!!

I have several of these and they are printed onto the fabric. I think that they will hold up nicely. I haven't had a chance to use mine yet. They are not a transfer.

all this talk about snakes reminds me so much of my sister in law and my brother. He doesn't like snakes and they ALWAYS have several snake nests in their backyard. My sister *ahem* disposes of many snakes. She also just had a baby this past Sunday. he's adorable. :lovestruc

An adorable baby snake? :rotfl:

So what baby stuff are you sewing?

Coming out of lurker-dom for a while. My MIL just got back from wintering in Florida and brought a whole pile of clothes for my girls with her. She's been busy! I can't wait to start getting some photos posted - she always makes my DDs the cutest things! Now if only she'd share some of her sewing skill with me...

This is a dress MIL made for my older DD last year. There's also an Alice in Wonderland type apron that goes with it. Still one of DD's favorites!

A sister set my girls got for their birthdays. Younger DD looks soooo tired in this picture!

She does beautiful work! The dresses look great!

We used this pattern to make the pink swirl/Mickey outfit a few pages back plus this outfit:

And I actually sewed the top of this one! I am slowly learning. Mom is finishing the Minnie dot dress (like the pink eyelet on the cover) and I should have a pic of that in a few days.

Great job with the sewing. That is how I started, by doing the top or part of te bottoms! The outfit is cute and I love that material. I wrote down the pattern number ready for them to go on sale!

Can anyone tell if they have seen this fabric anywhere? I really want to get some.

I've not seen it but I love it!

I hardly ever cut my patterns. I never thought of using tissue paper (but will have to try it), a lady once told me to use copy paper to trace them and that is what I do. But, for all the trouble I go to (taping paper together and struggling to see through the paper) I might come out better just buying several sizes when they run them .99 cents.

I keep a running list of patterns that we want to try, and also of patterns that we have tried and liked.....and then when they go on sale we stock up. They often have a limit on how many patterns you can buy, but don't forget that your kids can buy a stack of them too. My girls were probably 5 or 6 years old when I started handing them cash and the pattern....they adored the fact that they got to pay, and loved the fact that I wasn't going to have to come back the next day to buy more. We do this at the grocery store too, lol.

I wish that the designers at the YouCanMakeIt place would make larger sizes....I've only seen a couple of size 8's and we're in a size 10-12 now, so even the 8s would be a bit of work to upsize...and I'm not particularly good at that anyway, lol. But, I'm guessing that most preteens and teens aren't into mommy making them clothes, even the fabric store patterns are few and far between in those sizes. Thankfully, my girls love homemade clothes.

I had that SAME wish last night!!! My step daughter can still wear an 8 but she's on the way to a 10! After this summer, she'll be completely OUT of the 8's! A lot of the patterns w/ cute dresses only go to 8.

perhaps the powers that be will hear!!!

I'm hopelessly behind, as usual, but I saw your posts as I logged in and had to respond. I totally agree!!! My DD is in the still an 8, but almost a 10 category (actually we buy 10/12 RTW shirts so that they are long enough) and it really makes me hesitate to purchase the YCMT patterns. A bit ago YCMT had a link to a questionaire in one of the newsletters. My suggestion as to what I'd like to see more of was patterns in the the 7-14 size range. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I wasn't the only one with that request.

Has anyone bought The "Belle Elysse" Tiered Dress from YCMT? I wondered how easy the instructions were to follow. And other than CarlaC's patterns are there any you recommend?

ok - so i have been drooling all over the items everyone does - JUST BEAUTIFUL. I consider myself crafty - i quilt, i scrapbook, I am quick to pick things up -
BUT why cant i read a sewing pattern. I bought a few patterns to make very simple pull on shorts for my 2 1/2 year old and my 6 year old - both boys.
I hate those patterns - once you take them out of the envelope - there is no going back in and it is such a pain if i want to make 2 different sizes -
how do you ladies do it? should i transfer the pattern to tissue paper. any suggestions will be helpful
thanks for listening to problems of a newbie.
Jennifer

I havent read thru the the end of page 19 and 20. But wanted to reply.
Welcome! Congratulations on taking on clothes- you'll love it once you have 1 successful project completed.
First- go to www.youcanmakethis.com and buy the "easy fit pants" pattern by CarlaC (who is also a DISer) THey are for both boys and girls and are very detailed. I suggest when you print your ebook that you get a folder or a gallon size ziplock bag- I use the bag. I put the pages and the patten pieces in.
I also use zip lock bags for regular patterns Im working on. I like using Patternease for duplicating commercial patterns (like simplicity, mccalls) so I trace the pattern on to patternease and this allows me to make it in multiple sizes.

Carla's patterns are the best for beginners because they have detailed pictures and accurate detailed descriptions with each picture.

-she is soon to come out with a boy's bowling shirt that you may be interested in. Me- Im having a love-hate (mostly hate) affair with a men's hawiian shirt- i have set it aside to make a dress for DD for "sewing therapy" from DH's shirt.

I agree!!! I wanted to make my niece somethings, but she is only 7, but wears size 12. I want size 12 stuff that is age appropriate- Id love to see Carla do the easy fit pants in this size range. Or even a pair of pajamas would be great

Hi Jessica! You totally through me for a loop... as my sister's name is Jessica, she's expecting and she has an old kenmore. I had to reread and check your information to make sure you weren't her! :rotfl: And hi neighbor! I'm in Missouri. That's close enough, right?

That is very freakish!!! I am actually very near Kansas City and I've lived in St. Louis, Lebanon, Cape Girardeau (sp?), Marshfield, and I went to school in Rolla. So I know Missouri pretty well!

Here's why I haven't been sewing lately:

They are not the greatest and I had some spacing issues :lmao: The photos of the kids were supposed to be much larger. Anyhoo, it's done. I do like Chip and Dale though! I was at the school FOREVER today putting those up with Luke and Lily running around driving me crazy.

SOOOO cute! Your DD looks like such a little princess with her tiara!

Has anyone bought The "Belle Elysse" Tiered Dress from YCMT? I wondered how easy the instructions were to follow. And other than CarlaC's patterns are there any you recommend?

I have it and am askeered to try it because the way they have you do the sleeves looks WAY more complicated than Carla's peasant dress, which I am used to and love and is sooo easy. I have some of the growing up rosy patterns which I really like.

Wow! You put a lot of work into those doors!:worship: :worship: :worship:
Great JOB!

thanks to everyone who commented on my doors!

This is it for today. I also made this skort for my DD yesterday also. Just wanted to share. I was getting so jealous. ;)

Wow Thread #5!! Lots of gorgeous outfits! I loved the Minnie Mouse Birthday Party! And the Cars Party! What creative Moms you are!

I was away for the weekend without the kids! What a nice break! But boy am I behind on the laundry.:laundy:

Heather and Teresa!! I love your pictures. Thanks for posting. I am looking forward to more pictures.

Castle! Yikes those snakes were giving you a show. My neighbors across the street cut down all their shrubs in the front of the house because of the snakes hiding in them. It doesn't look very attractive though. Loved your story and how adorable is that KITTY! She is gorgeous.

Last Thursday I found out my Schnauzer has diabetes. She is 10 going on 11 and she isn't overweight. The Vet said that her pancreas isn't functioning. So I have to give her 2 shots a day of insulin. So far her blood sugar isn't going down at all.:sad1:

Hello again and good morning (well, almost afternoon!). I've gotten the "okay" to get a new sewing machine - it's a Mother's Day/Birthday present! :cool1: I am still thinking about getting the Singer Esteem since it is on sale - any advice on that or other machines comparable in price??? Also, if that is what I get I would really like a ruffler foot. Does anybody know which kind to get? I know there have been some other posts about this, but I can't seem to find them. Any help is greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get a new machine and sew, sew, sew!!!

On another note, I think the Disboards needs to get a new smilie that is sewing related!!!

Jess

Wow! Lots of gorgeous customs--and kids!

Not to mention a couple of nicely decorated doors! :)

I've been lurking and reading when I have a chance the past few days, but haven't had time to post. Just want to let everyone know I really appreciate all of their work! :thumbsup2

Commercial patterns assume you know certain things about garment construction. Quilting is a good foundation, but the process is a bit different. I did the reverse of what you are doing--garments, then quilts!

I use examining room paper--the rolls of tissue paper used on examining room tables to draft and finalize my patterns. You can purchase it by the roll at Nancy's Notions. I order through the catalog, but it's probably available online as well. Clotilde also might carry it. I've ordered through Nancy's Notions for over 25 years and Clotilde over 15 years. Good service from both. Although I did have an issue getting hand-sewing needles I ordered through Clotilde about two years ago. They must have changed the inventory numbers or something--they kept sending me machine needles--and told me to keep them! *LOL* They did finally get it right. :thumbsup2
