Well our cat Abbey was so excited over the snakes coming for a visit, she decided to get into my sewing cabinet and redecorate the kitchen..

the end

I LOVE your Himmy? Is he a chocolate point? Mine passed away about a year ago and I wish I had another. :sad1:

Hello everyone!
I'm so excited. With all of your encouragement I worked up the nerve to try to make something for my daughter Eleora. I have never made anything in the way of clothing before.
Here she is in her new outfit. I used the easy fit pant pattern with the cuff and added a matching band on the A-line reversible top. I'm thrilled with how it turned out.
That easy fit pant pattern is amazing! I've made my son 4 pairs of shorts/jams/pyjama bottoms now and even adapted it to make a matching pair of pj pants for my dh.
Thank you so much for all the inspiration!

Thanks for sharing. You did a great job. Congrats on your new hobby!

I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a long time lurker (since the first board) and I am just so inspired by everyones wonderful creations. I bought myself a sewing machine in August and decided to teach myself to sew. I am very slowly making progress. I have a dd(5) and a ds(2) and we are in the midst of planning or Disney trip for Sept 14-20!!

Ok. Back to lurking!

Stay with us! Don't lurk! Congrats on the machine. I'll be getting to Disney as you leave.

I have a question for 2cutekidz and Aimeeg again!!!

I bought my softbooks to do the patchwork skirts along with my other fabric and I noticed that the softbook directions say not to prewash. Should I disregard this and wash it anyway with the rest of my fabric or should I leave it as is? Thanks so much for your help!

I think the reason you are not to pre-wash is since it is for making a book, BUT since you are making clothing I would pre-wash to avoid shrinkage later.

Can you tell what pattern you used for the top? My DD is about that size and I have a hard time finding anything I like that fits her. Seems all the cute stuff is for smaller sizes. Since she'll still wear it, I want to sew it. Love this top!

I know exactly how you feel!!! My DD10 is the same way!!!
Here is the pattern I used for the tops (modified a little)...

For the blue top, I just added a ruffle on the bottom.

For the yellow top, I just added to the length when I cut it out.

Thanks for all of the compliments everyone! You made my day!

Edited to add: I really like this pattern for the top! It is quick and easy!!!

Greetings from Sunny and HOT Florida!!!

I haven't had time to get caught up yet, but I thought I'd post some of our BBB pictures. The girls had a lot of fun. Lydia got the very best FGMIT (Susan), and unfortunately the other 4 girls did not. Arminda's hair started falling within 2 hours of our visit. :sad2: But, it was still a great time!!!!

Here is Arminda in her Cinderella dress:

I don't have Tessa, because Heather has that Photopass card. But, I have one of all the girls together:

I hope everyone is doing well!!! I'm off to bed, I'm exhausted!!!

Awwww thay are all look so dang cute!!! How fun!!! I really hope to do BBB with my DD soon!

I've been so behind. I didn't get to keep up this week-end because of dd2's birthday party & having family in town.

The birthday girl in her party dress. of course, it was too cool Saturday for her to wear it without something under it. Figures.

A good look at dd4's outfit. I may add ties to the shirt. I haven't decided yet.

Wow those outfits are so CUTE! And so are your girls. Looks like a blast of a party!!!!

Hey everybody! Henry, Tessa, Sawyer, and I decided to take a day off from the parks today. The rest of the family went to Disney Studios, but we were all exhausted. So, I figured I'd check in with you and share a few pictures. I haven't read through the thread yet, but I skimmed a little bit.

:welcome: to all of our newbies!! Glad to have you!

Here are some pictures from our first 2 days. We are not pleased with the amount of Photopass photographers so far. They are nowhere to be found. I've honestly only seen 1 that wasn't with a character, and that was when we first entered Epcot. We didn't stop for a family picture because we assumed there would be more than one Photopass photographer in the park, silly us! So, no picture of us all in our dorky matching shirts. :sad2:

But, here is Tessa (pre-BBB) and Sawyer in front of the Cinderella and Prince Charming topiary. Sawyer got a LOT of attention all day in his Prince Charming outfit. But, Tessa's dress seemed to confuse people. If they said anything at all about it, they thought she was Sleeping Beauty. I was a little dissapointed!

Here's Tessa at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique:

Here are the girls the next day at the Beach Club before we went to Beaches and Cream. Surprisingly, they all stayed clean! My brother didn't fare so well, but you'll have to wait for our TR to hear about all that. ;)

And just 'cuz he's so stinkin' cute- Sawyer running around at Epcot:

Awww how cute are your kiddos!!! POST MORE!!! We love seeing pics from the World! Hahahaha

Finally got some pics of Parker wearing her new outfit. I really like how this came out except the next one I make will be a little bigger in the top. I also did my ruffle differently. This was the first time I have ever done a single thickness ruffle and I like how it came out.

Aww that is ADORABLE and what a little cutie!!!

I did not prewash my book fabric and they are fine. I have since washed the skirts and they came out okay. I do wash everything I make on the handwash cycle and then air dry. :)

Have fun!

That is too funny because I already have that pattern!   I bought it to make the crossover type top so I forgot it had the square neck version :lmao:

This is the same pattern that DMIL is using to make Claire a shirt out of mickey head fabric, with lime green ribbon for contrast...I can't wait for her to get home from FL so she can sew it and I can post a pic. I am pretty sure it is the one on the top right. She is making a similar one for Molly, but in "infant" size.

Here's why I haven't been sewing lately:

They are not the greatest and I had some spacing issues :lmao: The photos of the kids were supposed to be much larger. Anyhoo, it's done. I do like Chip and Dale though! I was at the school FOREVER today putting those up with Luke and Lily running around driving me crazy.

I love this! I just bought 4 new Cricut carts today at Hobby Lobby (including the 2 new Pooh ones). I love the Chip and Dale and all the flowers! They both look beautiful!:lovestruc

It is McCall's M5088.

It was really easy too!

This is my favorite pattern ever...My only complaint is the way the top is cut. With the straps attached, you have to use a lot of fabric. But it's my favorite..

ok - so i have been drooling all over the items everyone does - JUST BEAUTIFUL. I consider myself crafty - i quilt, i scrapbook, I am quick to pick things up -
BUT why cant i read a sewing pattern. I bought a few patterns to make very simple pull on shorts for my 2 1/2 year old and my 6 year old - both boys.
I hate those patterns - once you take them out of the envelope - there is no going back in and it is such a pain if i want to make 2 different sizes -
how do you ladies do it? should i transfer the pattern to tissue paper. any suggestions will be helpful
thanks for listening to problems of a newbie.

That is the only thing that I didn't like about it too. Thanks for the reminder, next time I am going to make the ties shorter. You need them longer to tie them into a bow but they could be shorter if you are going to use a sailor knot.

I hardly ever cut my patterns. I never thought of using tissue paper (but will have to try it), a lady once told me to use copy paper to trace them and that is what I do. But, for all the trouble I go to (taping paper together and struggling to see through the paper) I might come out better just buying several sizes when they run them .99 cents.

Coming out of lurking so I can at least subscribe :rotfl: I'm going to be attempting to make my first full dress for this year's trip (I started with making my own appliques and sewing them onto pre-made tshirts last year). I would love to make a circle skirt but don't know if I'm ready for that yet!!! Wish me luck!

If you can do a dress you can definitely do a circle skirt. They are super easy. Check out Theresa's links at the beginnnig of the thread and WELCOME!!!!

Well, as far as simple pull-on shorts and pants for your boys, Carla C's easy fit pants from youcanmakethis.com are a huge fav around here. There is no folding patterns involved. You just print off the size or sizes you need (the size range would cover both your boys, it is something like sizes 1-8) It works for shorts, cropped pants, pj's, long pants. I LOVE IT!

It is McCall's M5088.

It was really easy too!

We used this pattern to make the pink swirl/Mickey outfit a few pages back plus this outfit:

And I actually sewed the top of this one! I am slowly learning. Mom is finishing the Minnie dot dress (like the pink eyelet on the cover) and I should have a pic of that in a few days.

I love the fabric. This is just so darn sweet!

I use copy paper or what the stores call "pattern tracing paper."

Online you can buy what is called Swedish Tracing Paper and Pattern Ease is sold retail. I have also read on my sewing and craft forums that you can use other transparent paper products like rolls of paper from a medical supply store.

I tend to do this for patterns that I want to make multiple times or when I am using a different size for the same pattern.

Of course, yes, when you buy from YCMT then you can print out the size you need. That is one reason why their patterns are so great!

GL!

Coming out of lurker-dom for a while. My MIL just got back from wintering in Florida and brought a whole pile of clothes for my girls with her. She's been busy! I can't wait to start getting some photos posted - she always makes my DDs the cutest things! Now if only she'd share some of her sewing skill with me...
116467dress_2.jpg

This is a dress MIL made for my older DD last year. There's also an Alice in Wonderland type apron that goes with it. Still one of DD's favorites!

116467dress3.jpg

A sister set my girls got for their birthdays. Younger DD looks soooo tired in this picture!

This thread over the past year has been very inspirational! Even I can proudly call myself an embellisher now. I figured out the appliques too. Thank you for keeping this going and posting your beautiful pieces everyone.

Fortunately I'm not too freaked out by snakes, although one time when my brother was a teenager he was riding a motorcycle in the foothills and BROUGHT HOME a rattlesnake (somehow got it into a container, I think it was a large canteen) :confused3 :scared1: My dad had to chop it in half with a shovel. It wasn't pretty.

all this talk about snakes reminds me so much of my sister in law and my brother. He doesn't like snakes and they ALWAYS have several snake nests in their backyard. My sister *ahem* disposes of many snakes. She also just had a baby this past Sunday. he's adorable. :lovestruc

My baby daughter will be here in July and I have already started making dresses and shoes!!
I am currently using an older Kenmore sewing machine, which works just fine, but I am looking to upgrade.
Jessica

Hi Jessica! You totally through me for a loop... as my sister's name is Jessica, she's expecting and she has an old kenmore. I had to reread and check your information to make sure you weren't her! :rotfl: And hi neighbor! I'm in Missouri. That's close enough, right?

Can anyone tell if they have seen this fabric anywhere? I really want to get some.
th_Mickeymouse.jpg

That's super cute! Good luck on your search!

Nice work everyone! I've been lurking... it's been busy busy busy. I wish I were sewing. but I'm working 6-7 days a week instead. This working thing is for the birds.... I have discovered the joy of fabric shopping on :wizard: much to my husbands dismay. :upsidedow
