I know how you feel....I see all these pretty dresses and skirts (I'm eying a pattern on youcanmakethis .... patchwork skirt) but I have the best control for fabric buying ever known.....
.....
....
.... I live 40 miles away from a fabric store.....yup it helps to be in the middle of nowhere.

well.....if I can stay away from buying fabric online :D

I'm 30-40 min from anything other than Wal-Mart. I feel your pain. BUT, right now, it's actually cheaper for me to pay shipping than to drive to the stores. Of course, Hancock & JoAnn's don't have the good stuff on their sites, so that helps a little too. I just have to stay away from :wizard: .

hey again "friends"....when it rains it pours with me. I just got back from the doctor and found out I have a cyst on my right ovary ths size of a Basketball. YES, a basketball, he said is is in my entire abdomenal region. I went to the doctor saying that I have been having bad cramps for my period and they did a trans******l ultrasound to find the cyst. They have decided to remove my right ovary. Now I have to deal with being in the hospital for 2 days, and recovery is a month. My DH travels with his job for those that don't know and is gone Monday - Friday. And all the problems i have been having with my DD. My doctor wants me to do this surgery ASAP, but no later than 1 month away. I lost it at the doctors office and was balling like a baby. I felt so stupid, let me tell ya! Im really scared and coudl use your prayers and well wishes. Guess im telling y'all cause im really still in shock and scared. I asked how common cyst are, and he says he has been treating for over 22 years and this is the 3 largest he has saw. THey are not at all common. :scared1:

 That's so scary. I'll certainly be praying for you. I'm everything will be fine once the surgery is over, though.

Here is my latest. I finally made a skirt for my friend's DD7. She wanted something with brown and orange. I hope she likes it. It is the YCMT peekaboo twirl skirt.

I like it! I really like that style skirt. And I *love* that dress form.

I am so behind and will try to catch up later. We are having incredible drama with the PTA of all things. It is very ugly and why can't people act like adults? Anyway, I did finish something this week. It's a shirt of Tom's that is now a cute dress for Megan:

I made my own lining but added the ruffle for modesty. I am not crazy about the ruffle so for my next attempt I think I will try Carla's halter top patter for the front. I made the straps too short so I sewed them together for instant halter top, lol.

I looooove the knife pleats! I am totally addicted to them.

Heather and Teresa: Tom will not be coming to the meet, he is a silly man who does not appreciate internet friends. :snooty:

I have never seen that Napoleon movie ya'll are talking about. That is all!

This is really cute! I LOVE it! You have gotten too good girl!

Cute dress. I went to Goodwill to look for some old shirts to make dresses out of for Jenna and she said "No way!! I'm not wearing a man's shirt!" They had a really cute yellow striped one and another one that looked like it should have been in the women's section. Anyways I walked away with nothing because Jenna was being picky. I didn't think to raid DH's closet. Of course the one who wears button up shirts is my grandpa. I guess I'll have to hit him up for some of his old shirts. Atleast I know where those have been. :lmao: I too love knife pleats. I made a skirt last night for Jenna using big knife pleats instead of gathering. It was a school skirt so it looked good that way. When she comes home I'll take a pic, but I don't know when I'll be able to post it.

Cysts are common. My mom had them, my sister has them, my aunt had them and my grandma had them. In fact my grandma had one removed that was the size of a volley ball. They thought she was pregnant. :scared1: My prayers go out to you and I know that you will make it through this. You are strong.

If you see some fabric on here that you like you can ask the person who posted it to get the SKU# and it can be ordered using that.

Love them! Especially, Pooh & Tink.

Ok, I need advice. I got this fabric to make a Cinderella dress out of (the ballgown only out of cotton) for a friend's dd's birthday. Now, I'm not sure I like or that she'll like it. I'm trying to decide if I use it for the dress or do I get some solid Kana cotton & use this for something else later.

I guess I will buck up and practice with it. Just to make sure I'm clear though (and apparently I'm a little slow!), I shouldn't sew two things together with the ruffler though, just use the ruffler foot in place of gathering? Then once I get the length right, then sew together. Once I get the hang of it, can/will the ruffler allow me to sew two things together and ruffle at the same time?

Yes, you can sew the ruffle to the other fabric at the same time you are doing the ruffling. I don't do that much because I can never get the ruffling to be exact enough to not need to pull the basting thread. Also, since I set my stitch length to the longest, I wouldn't feel like the stitching was secure enough for a seam - but that's JMHO.

Anyway, I did finish something this week. It's a shirt of Tom's that is now a cute dress for Megan:

IMG_0449.jpg

That is so cute on Megan! I so need to try one of these.

I have never seen that Napoleon movie ya'll are talking about. That is all!

I haven't either. I'll admit the previews I've seen just don't make me want to watch it. :confused3

2) Tutorial for knife pleats I found here: http://slightly-obsessed.blogspot.com/search/label/Tutorials

They are easy but take some time. They are addictive too!

Have you tried doing the pleats with your ruffler? I know if I increase the depth of the "ruffle" it becomes more of a pleat. I've never tried it but it looks like it would give a similar effect.

1) Thank you! I think by the next one I will have it exactly how I want it (then of course, she will grow and I will have to adjust).

2) Maybe we need to have a watching party!

3) Dude, I can't even figure out how to use my ruffler to ruffle! :lmao: I am ruffler-challenged even after reading Carla's pdf several times!

I hadn't thought of that Thanks. Although that doesn't help the need to NOT buy fabric. ;)
I'm sorry. I guess me telling you the easy way to get fabric isn't the best thing when you don't want to buy any.

I like it. I did a Cinderella outfit similar to that.

It's ok, i may someday need to know that I can do that. Like if I suddenly HAVE to have Minnie dots or something wonderful is really on sale & I can't find it online.

I finished Lydia's Marie outfit this morning! I think it really turned out well! Lydia loves it too. She loves Marie.

And a great big Thank You!!! to Glorib, for sending us the Marie fabric!!! :grouphug:

I made this with less than half a yard of the Marie fabric!

I used Carla's Simply Sweet jumper top, and the ruffles from the peasant dress pattern. Thanks Carla!

I am sorry to hear about you cyst that sounds really scary. I hope you have a quick recovery. I have been thinking about and praying about your DD and I hope things get better. :grouphug: Hugs to you. Do you have someone who can stay with the kids when you are in the hospital? Can they do the procedure on a Friday so your DH won't be away? I bet you will feel much better after you recover.
