I've been wanting to upgrade my sewing machine for awhile now. I don't really want a serger or an embroidery machine, but I would like one that appliques nicely. Mine does not! (Of course it could be user error!!) Help me shop!! What is everyone else using, and what would you reccomend?

It actually fits. And I only had to rip out part of one seam when I was sewing in the zipper. I made the top because I did not want to waste a bunch more fabric if the project did not work out well.

And just because we are sharing baby pictures:

cute top! very nice job. and an even cuter baby. :goodvibes

I just wanted to post about an embroidery machines. If you like the way hand applique looks (which I do) then I don't think you would be too pleased with an embroidery machine. Atleast for that aspect of it.

I really LOVE my embroidery machine, but not for embroidering! I got it in 2001 and did enjoy it for a bit but love hand piecing and sewing so much better. The results are amazingly different in my eyes.

Just a thought! I know everyone is different.

It's certainly not your fault... sometimes I'm too literal minded for my own good... I'll blame it on the hours I wasted in chemistry labs :rotfl: who would think on a board about sewing, people would *actually* want to see what fabric was used in a project..... :upsidedow thanks for changing it! :flower3:

No problem!

I just can't keep up with this thread and real life. The work I have seen is amazing.

Steph - love the reconstructed shirt - dress.

Lisa - those shoes are great.

All the baby pics are so cute.

I took on a challenge this week and sewed something for myself. I was very askeered but made it through - darts, pleats and zippers oh my.

I was very askeered but made it through - darts, pleats and zippers oh my. I had never done any of these features before and they were a little challenging at first.

That is a cute top! You did a great job. I may have to do that pattern for me!

Ha! I kind of used the tutorial here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=170402.0

But then it involved math and stuff so I used the top of the jumper and cut the straps out of the sleeves using this: http://www.youcanmakethis.com/info/whats-new/Simply-Sweet-Tops-and-Dresses.htm

And then I used this for the bottom part of the dress: http://www.youcanmakethis.com/info/featured-products/Sew-Boutique-4-Dolly-A-Line-Dresses-Tops.htm

It was a true frankenpattern! If you are good with math and stuff, try the first link: it's an excellent tutorial.

I am pretty good at math. Thanks so much! I bookmarked it!

YEAH :cool1: I finally finished! (I believe I have failed to mention that I tore my rotator cuff and am in a sling) ....yet managed to sew two outfits this weekend! I also got my haircut in a young funky style. I will have to style it and take a pic. DD almost 10 is still sick  Poor thing!

OK on with the show.....

AND AFTER!!! This is the Daisy Kingdom 2988. Whoever wrote the directions acted like they were losing $100 for every word of directions they included. I managed with some help from you awesome Disers though...thanks Steve's Bug!

The back....do you feel this is too revealing for a little one? Miss Cammie and Utah Mom....would you dress your girls in an outfit without a back???? Not so sure I am happy with this and I really need your opinions...thanks!

I think the dresses are cute on your cuties! Personally, I like to have the back of halters up a bit higher on Zoe now that she's older. I think it's fine on smaller ones, though. If you're concerned about the front slipping to the side, you could tighten the back elastic a bit or add some simple ties a bit under the armholes... kind of like the back of dress A-B (McCall's 3260):

BTW - This is a dress I've been wanting to make for Zoe but just haven't tried yet. I really like the back on that version.

Oh those bow ties are adorable! I may do that....thanks so much! :goodvibes I really like the pattern you showed...really cute!

Here they are! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE ENCOURAGEMENT. You were right - this pattern is easy. The sleeves - no problems! Can you tell I'm excited?

Heidi's dress has the lace on the bottom. I decided to put it in front as low as I could. I think it turned out fine. She's doing a ballet position with her hands. :confused3

I might add a green sash around Aleah's dress. There's just not a lot of room between the arm holes and the waistline. I'm still debating. She has a goofy expression (again).

Just because it's sweet.

I used a size 5 for both girls. I think the waist it a bit high. Did anyone else have this problem?

Aww those came out adorable. It makes me think of a board game :) Great job!

I second Lisa's idea of doing the bows in back.

LisaZoe- That Minnie Mouse dress is too de-vine!!!! You are so talented. And the shoes! Oh the shoes! Do you do all of that free hand?
Im assuming with Minnie you plan out where you need what fabrics, create it on paper, then create "pattern pieces" for each color, and then applique on?
I love the idea of ruffles on the back for a little girl- very cute.
Does she wear these outfits primarily at WDW or at home too? They just all seem so special- wearable works of art.

And for all those who wrote such kind thoughts, and encouragement to me over the last 2 days- thank you! It really helped. I feel open to moving-whichever direction DH's company takes us. And that Im not a bad Mom (well today anyway lol) So, really, thank you.

The Mom who posted about her little girl's surgery- it was going to be on Friday- has anyone heard from her? I forget her name now....

TeresaJoy/HeatherSue- The shirt and your Mom are wonderful!!

Her eye is still like that- one droops a bit. I dont know why it happened, her optomitrist says she is near sighted. I hate it when my parents look at her and say "gosh, its a shame, are you gonna do anything about it" sigh...a Momma's love just doesnt see it as a issue.
and...I've been thinking about it, and I think Im gonna stop taking the pill at the end of the month and see what happens....

CUTENESS!! The girls, the dresses everything! Great job.

I am in the middle of designing a smocking plate! I have never done it before. I have smocked tons of stuff, just not designed my own plates. Here are two of the designs that I have in mind. I plan on adding the croc in the middle (and maybe the clock too). I might just put a tiny tink (or a green/gold sparkly thing) above Peter's hat. Please tell me that you can tell what it is. . .

She is Gorgeous!! When I look at that pic I feel happy :) She reminds me of my baby girl :) Beautiful Blue eyes.

WHEW! We made it through the day!! It was supposed to pour rain and thunder storm all day and it turned out to be GORGEOUS and nearly 80 degrees! Glorious day!!! The Build a Bear party went well. Sally Rally had some anxious moments before we went. She got into her completely darling new "Birthday" outift, along with her new pink Minnie Jane crocs...and suddenly she was crying. She was afraid everyone was going to look at her. She was afraid she was too dressed up...in a knit dress and leggings...

She has pockets of extreme shyness. I wrestled with letting her change into something a little more familiar b/c I didn't want her to feel anxious...but then I remembered that I am her wicked step mother and it my JOB to challenge her! So I told her she looked great and that was that. Oh and PS-NO CRYING AT YOUR PARTY!

She sucked it up.

*ahem*

;)

Teddy looked darling as well.

here's some pictures b/c I know y'all are THAT interested!

getting some moral support from her best buddy! (Sally is the brown one in the pink sweater and pigtails!)

HEARTS!!! (We donated a dollar for each bear from our party to Autism, so Sally and Teddy got special Purple hearts plus a heart from every child they "helped"...so one big heart and 8 little hearts!)
100_2402.jpg

Getting "Bob" the Koala dressed in his karate outfit!
100_2405.jpg

Getting "Cuddles" the Koala into her cute pink summer capris!
100_2407.jpg

The kids had a wonderful time. Once the party got going Sally felt better and Teddy was actually pretty well behaved! One of the children at the party is the most out of control little poot I've ever encountered and I had to slap her around with an eyebrow arch more than once AND threaten to remove her from the party if she didn't lower her voice and WAIT HER TURN. This child is a grabber. I simply cannot abide a child who grabs and whines. Can't. I would just die of shame if my child acted like this as a guest at a party. :sad2: StinkPOT.

Overall the day went well.

And guess what y'all...Sally got a SEWING MACHINE from her grandma!!! She was THRILLED to death!! I cried when she opened it. I thought of all y'all and how much love you show your munchkins with your sewing machines! It's a nice one too! It's a Jenome Petite...I think that's what it's called! Tomorrow Sally will sit with her grandma and they will sew a pillow together!

I couldn't be more excited for her. What a wonderful gift!

and I am so dang tired right now I could cry!

Hope y'all had a good day!!!

I was hoping that you would post pics- but didn't want to be too forward and ask for them!! So YEA!! The kids are dolls and I am glad that everyone had a good time. My 5 yo is somewhat like Sally- he is nervous about other people looking at him or laughing at him. He wouldn't wear the cutest gymboree underwear that had a tatoo heart and read "MOM". He thought the other kids would make fun of him for "loving his mom". I am wondering when the other kids will see his undies!

I also learned to sew from my grandmother. I have lots of fond memories. She is still alive, but she just can't sew much anymore. I am the only grandkid that took an interest, so that made it even more special. I think of her everytime I sew!

Sally is adorable! And a sewing machine as birthday gift! How wonderful!!! I have a Jem Janome, probably similar to the one she has- except I bought it at the ripe old age of 23- I used that machine for 10 years. Its janome makes a great, durable machine. How delightful for her!!!:woohoo:

OK- this is a little OT, but I just want you all to know how much I look forward to coming here everyday. It just puts some happiness and warmth into my life. I feel like you're all family- and NICE family at that! No drama, no envy, just supportive good peeps. THANKS for being such wonderful, caring people! LYMI!!!! :grouphug:

I cannot agree more. . . even though I am fairly new around here, I too feel the love :goodvibes

1. She looks gorgeous! I couldn't tell until you said something, she is a beauty.
2. How exciting!! DH and I are hoping to start trying for our at the end of this year :) I NEED to lose some weight and get the oncology all clear. . . enough about me, I wanted to wish you the very best!
