here is an example of a dress with lace sewn behind-just enough so it hangs

I made this Enchanted top (not a dress) for a fellow Diser. She wanted a top instead of a dress so her daughter could wear it over leggins. I thought that was a pretty clever idea! I made up the pattern for this one too.

And, the back:

Deann, I sent you these pictures first, I hope you got them!

Arminda saw this, and thought I had made one for her, so I think I might have to make another one!

What a clever idea! I love it. And love the movie.

Hi All! Once again I've gotten behind on this thread. I think I'm going to make one last apology for not being able to keep up. :-)

Anyway, I finally had a chance to make the pants to go with Zoe's Tink top/dress. Here's the finished set:

tink_pout3.jpg

I also decided to try painting some shoes since I already had a pair on hand that I'd bought a few months ago to experiment on. It was a lot of fun picking different patterns from the prints I used to replicate on sections of the shoes. I'd initially planned to have the shoes basically the same but after I did one, I decided to make the other one totally different. I think they still look like a pair even if they aren't the same. :)

tink_shoes2.jpg

I have a feeling I'll be tempted to make a matching pair of shoes for each set... and Zoe already has more shoes than one little girl needs. LOL Hopefully my practical side will prevail...

Those pants are adorable! And the shoes look great with the outfit! You did a fantastic job with Tink.

:goofy:
My next door nieghbor's granddaughter just came back from Disney. She is a 3 yr old cutie. She also was scared of EVERYTHING in a costume. Goofy got her over that. Some how he charmed this little girl and they came home with pics of her hugging all the characters and princesses.

She wants to be "Mrs Princess Goofy"Help me figure out how to girly/princess this up please! She wants a dress... Maybe a peasant dress in red with a pinafore of this print???? ruffles in another color???? Help! :cutie: :goofy: (I have 3-4 yards to use of this goofy material)

DSC04294.jpg

I have no other ideas than have already been posted. Just wanted to say that the fabric is great. DS2 LOVES Goofy.

I've sewn on the top of the fabric as well as behind. For me, it depends on the lace. Some are finished looking on top and bottom edges with others aren't as nice along the top edge so I put those behind the fabric. Is the lace flat or pre-gathered? Often the pre-gathered isn't very pretty along the gathered edge because of the fabric used to enclose the gathering.
I second this opinion.

Hello, all! I've been tending to a sick baby for about a week, and now guess what?.... I'M home sick today! Sore throat, snotty nose, blech!

Anyway, I finally finished the "Lucky" outfit. Here are pictures of the front and back. Hopefully Kimberly will post pics of the outfit on her daughter after she receives it this week....

And here is a Minnie halter dress I made for Edie last weekend.

And this is Edie's signature pose. I call it "rolling around on the ground on purpose so mom can't take good pictures."

And here is one of Nate so he doesn't feel left out.

These are so cute! I love the Lucky one and your appliques look perfect! Wow!

I have a Build a Bear question for anyone who has done Build a Bear parties!

Did your birthday boy or girl get to go above and beyond the "fixed" amount the party? Meaning, the "guest of honor" has a bear with an entire outfit including shoes and accessories while the other party guests have bare footed bears with maybe a t-shirt and a pair of shorts? Each guest will have $25 to spend, and I'm of the opinion that $25 is more than enough for Sally and Teddy to have nice bears with a cute outfit without having to go lavishly over board. Especially since they'll have had a ton of other gifts from family.

I guess I'm a little uncomfortable with the "Look what I got and YOU didn't" concept. It bugs me. It could be a childhood thing...our mom didn't let us win game prizes at our own birthday parties. We could play the games, but if we "won" the second place person got the prize instead...it was our birthday after all and we were getting gifts from everyone already.

Any thoughts? I want the kids to have a great day, but I also want them to get the concept of being satisfied with what they've got and not needing "MORE", birthday or not.

Could be that wicked step mother thing.

:goodvibes

I am with you on this. I don't want my kids to be spoiled. I want them to know how lucky they are that they have so many extras. I have a good friend who makes sure that her kids get everything they want and it drives me crazy! She had a petting zoo and pony ride come for her 2 year old's b-day party. She said that she was wondering if 1 hour was enough for the pony. Since there were only 14-15 kids coming I thought that was fine but that to make sure that they people giving the rides didn't let one kid "hog" the pony. Her response was, well unless it was her DD. She could ride it for as long as she wanted. I know she was the b-day girl but I want my kids to learn to share and to be good friends and to be appreciative. It really frustrates me sometimes when I see people spoiling their kids to excess!

Jumping on the birthday party talk here. Heidi (DD6) is invited to a birthday party on the 19th. Ready for the time ... it's from 4:00 - 9:00 PM. 5 hours! And 9:00 at night? Isn't that a bit late for 5- and 6-year-olds? It's at the girl's house. They'll be doing makeovers on them. Am I the only one who finds this a bit strange?

I wanted to add that the girls in her Kindergarten class were invited. I think there are about 10 of them.

It's a flat lace. When I put it in front, you can see the material behind it. When I put it behind, I think the material in front of it looks dumb. In the past, I put it in front. I thought maybe I was doing it wrong.

So after you sew the lace on, it kind of hangs right below the fabric? That's an idea I hadn't thought about before!

Yes, pretty much like that. It's a sewing technique I learned in an heirloom sewing class.

okay that is gorgeous , Jayedyn loves that and i have that fabric so i am totally gonna case that what pattern did you use?

it sounds like a mini sleepover party but not the actual thing Jayedyn was just asking me about doing something like this for her party...;)

I know some of you here have older girls, since I have a 2 yr old I have no idea what would be appropriate for a 9 year old. Or, at least tell me what would be too babyish. Oh, and it has to be easy! I can handle the YCMT patterns pretty well.

My 11year old neice just asked me to make Simplicity 4255 for her. (She wanted the style on the bottom w/ no ruffles.)

LOL! I have someone who wants to CASE me- but I DIDN'T sew it. It's handmade by a gal who sells on:wizard: I bought several of them from her- a couple were phenomenolly priced.

I LOVE the Goofy fabric!! I keep hoping one of these days a Goofy print will magically appear at JoAnns. I'm planning on running in the Goofy Challenge again in Jan 2010 (Jan 2009 sold out while I was home with a brand-new baby and couldn't even think of ever leaving the house let alone running another marathon-and-half) and little miss Megan will of course need a custom to match :lmao:

I have a question about birthday parties...do the kids usually open the gifts at the parties your kids go to? Around here, it is customary to wait until everyone has left, and then to write thank you notes after the party....I like it, because there's no competiton about who gave what, and no embarrasment over "doubles".

Same goes for New Jersey. Gifts are not opened at the party to avoid exactly the things you said! I was not used to this. Growing up we opened all the gifts at the party and oohd and ahhhd over everything and said "Thank you SO MUCH! I love it!" or the variation of "This is lovely! Thank you very much!" My mom would have us practice our thank you's before kids came. We had to smile when we said them and sound appreciative! She wasn't a nut about it, but it was very important to my mom and dad that we show appreciation and genuine thanks for gifts. My mom always said "We want to make people feel good about doing something nice for us don't we?" And we'd chime back "Yes ma'am!"

we are SO products of our upbringing!:lmao:

At the beginning of my pregnancies they draw blood and they can test it to see what you have had. Everything from Measles to AIDS to Herpes etc.

They show you the results. I Hate having my blood drawn and I hated and dreaded the few visits when they did.

yeah...I may need to stick to dogs or adopt. I pass out every time I see a needle come my way.

In our area the gifts are opened so everyone can see. I've never really noticed much competition but then children's parties in our area (at least among my friends and family) are very simple and low key. For most of the kids, getting to see the birthday child's reaction to their gift is an important part of the party.

I had cousins in Oregon and that's how I remember their birthday parties. Very low key...running around in the yard, or playing in the wading pool. One of my cousins had a Slip n Slide she did every year...and she loved to "shave balloons"...shaving cream on balloons...give every kid a Gillette and whoever could shave the balloon w/out popping it wins! I hated that game. I have an issue with balloon popping!

I would NEVER let my munchkins have anything with RAZORS in it!:scared1:

8 bids!!!! :wizard: My very first time selling!

It's only day 3 out of 7!!!!

It's all used clothes. I cleaned out Norah's closet and piled up a "lot" 96piece size 3T clothes.

I'm thrilled!

YAY!!! Congrats!!!:goodvibes

The thing I think that parents do not understand is that the more children get, the more anxious they become about "getting more". They have no boundaries when it comes to getting stuff b/c no one is telling them ENOUGH or NO or teaching them to appreciate what they have. Which then leads to children feeling invalidated or not good enough if parties don't top each other year after year. (Not to mention tantrums in Target!) Over the top "getting" leads to self esteem being attached to how much stuff they accumulate. We don't do our kids ANY favors by indulging them to the nth degree.

at least in my opinion!:thumbsup2

(this is an issue that drives me batty!)

I think if more kids had parents to make them Disney boutique clothing the world would be a MUCH happier place!

:cool1:

Wow! Good job on the pattern drafting! This is beautiful!
Teresa- that is just amazing! (I thought I commented on it already, but couldn't find it). Really, truly amazing! I think that anyone would immediately know that is an Enchanted "dress".
I love it!! What a great idea.
That is so pretty. If Jenna didn't have so many outfits made and planned for WDW I would ask you to make her one.
This is gorgeous!!! I would loooove to know how you made this!
What a clever idea! I love it. And love the movie.
I am so jealous!! It is beautiful!

Thanks so much!!! You guys do wonders for my self image!!!

It involved MATH :headache: Lots of it :headache: :rotfl: I'll try to get it wrote down and post one of these days!
Then you can make one MissAmberStalker!

When I go to a wedding or shower or any party with presents (graduation, anniversary etc..), I don't like it when they don't open the presents. If I go to the trouble to buy a gift, I want to SEE the person open it. I think that's part of the fun! To me, (and I'm not judging anyone, this is just my opinion) it's rude to invite someone to a party, ask them to bring you a present, but then not open them for the gifter to see. My Mom feels the same way.

Cool Wendy!!! I hope you do great!!!

I just got three big garbage bags filled today with clothes I'm donating to our local "free store". It felt REALLY good to get them out of here! (Even if it was just to the garage until I can take them tomorrow!)

Arminda (9 11/12 year old dd) wants me to make her one of those too. It's a really cute pattern for that age.

When I worked in a bakery A lady came in and wanted a cake that had makeup items drawn on the cake and she said that she didn't care what the cost was. I asked her what kind of party she was having. She said that they were renting a limo, taking their DD and 5 of her friends to the beauty salon and then taking them to the mall and buying them all new dresses. I asked how old the girls were and she said 7.:scared1: Way too grown up for that age.

Just stopping in to say hi! I am loving all the new customs. I am trying to at least lurk with you guys so that if we move I do not get to lost lol. We have been insanely busy. Our sibling group is going to grandma at the end of the month and our adoptive placements have been moved up to coming in May. Princess A is still with us and we pray everyday she stays. She quit breathing last week and DH and I preformed CPR on her. She spent last week in the hospital and thankfully is doing much better now. I never realized how fragile life truely is I do not think. I cannot wait life to slow down a bit so I can start sewing again!

oh my gosh that is super super scary!!! I am glad she is ok now.

It sounds like it really has been busy around your house. I hope that everything works out for you!

I made this Enchanted top (not a dress) for a fellow Diser. She wanted a top instead of a dress so her daughter could wear it over leggins. I thought that was a pretty clever idea! I made up the pattern for this one too.

I think I like enchanted a little to much- is that possible? I mean I'm not going all Titanic about it but I just love that movie!!! Maybe it's the music?? (I have seen Titanic at least 30 times  )

I'm going to sew tonight!! Maybe I'll have some finished items tomorrow!! :goodvibes

HELLO?? He's 15 yrs old...he probably thinks that princess is hot! Of course he would remember what she is wearing!! HAHAHAHAHA:lmao: :rotfl:
