Here is where the crazy starts (well, it might have been earlier, but now it is full-on crazy!). Jackson and Cooper want Mike outfits. So, I plan to applique (thanks for the awesome tutorial HS!) a mike onto a white shirt. I couldn't figure out what to do for pants. . .So, I made this fabric. I know that some of the seams don't like up, but I like it. It looks at least as good as the patchwork shorts I got from old navy earlier.

Those are great! I love :lovestruc that patchwork. Too cute!

So, I have been obsessed with what the kids will wear since finding this thread. We will be there for 5 full days and a partial day. here is what the kiddos will wear:

arrival day:

I am not really happy with the embroidery (although it came with the machine!!). I might do it over.

Day 1- Magic Kindgom day, Crystal Palace breakfast and PPP

IMG_1184.jpg

I made costumes for the boys to wear to the party, but I know it won't last long. Here are the shorts that they will wear when they take off the costumes (I am making the shirt this weekend- pirate mickey head)
IMG_1196.jpg

this is the same fabric that cute little Lily was modeling. I didn't realize that the eyes were hearts until I was sewing it. Oh well, I just hope the boys don't notice!!

Day 2- animal kingdom and DTD
I am having shirts made by a friend and they haven't arrived yet. Cooper has an elephant and Jackson has dinosaurs on his shirt.
For DTD-

I LOVE the Friends around the World fabric!! It's too perfect!! The Nemo and Squirt appliques are FLAWLESS!!! They are just SO perfect!!!

I absolutely LOVE the patchwork Mike shorts!! I'm VERY into the Madras print for my munchkins! You did an outstanding job!!!

Thanks guys!

I have the Disney brother one (cheapo from wal-mart). I wish I had a larger area, but it has worked very well for me so far.

I have one outfit left. I have no idea what to do. We are going to MK, DTD and will eat at CRT. I thought about smocking a shortalls outfit for Cooper- maybe try a Captain Hook, Croc, Peter and a tiny tink. That would be boyish, right? No idea for Jackson. I would love to CASE Heather's peter pan outfit in some way, but, ummm, yeah, not that talented!

You ARE that taletned!!!:thumbsup2

Do you find the Brother machine pretty simple to use applique-wise? I am really wanting one, but I'm a major beginner and I don't want to purchase something that I will have no control of!! I'll end up with Mickey applique's on my hands!!;)

I personally would let the birthday girl (in my case) go over on money. Afterall, it's their party. But all the siblings and/or friends would have to stick in budget. As far as party bags, I would not expect one if my child came home with a BAB. Mostly with prizes (addition to party bags) i do some games and if you win, you pick a wrapped prize out of the basket. You can open it and keep it. Then if you win again you can choose to put back your first prize and pick another or keep your prize that you got the first time and we let the 2nd place winner choose. When everyone has a prize then we can start winning 2nd prizes. Because I spend so much on party bags and prizes 2 is the max I give out. Then what ever is left I put in my reward box for my girls throgh the year. Then when we get to the end of the party and there are open gifts in the prize basket those winners now will have to pick from the opened prizes. Before the party is completly over I hand out party bags and tell everyone that they can "trade" prizes with anyone and not to feel bad because I will not be sad if they don't want/like their prize they received.

I lvoe to do cabbage rolls at parties. I take a prize wrap it and put a sticky note on it with a question (like middle name, favorite food, bedroom theme, worst subject, favorite subject, color of backpack......)and then make a second layer and put on a post it note with another question about the birthday child. I wrap each gift between 3 and 7 times with questions for each "layer". Have the kids sit in a circle and like hot potato pass the prize around. If the person holding the gift gets the question correct they can carefully unwrap that layer. If there is another layer they pass. If they see a prize, they keep the prize. My girls are 7 and 8, and the kids love it. They love to learn about their frind (birthday girl) and some know and some don't know the answers. Some guess like what size shoe, what time born, name of babydoll. But all the kids there are friends, or would not be invited to the party so they will know SOMETHING on the sticky notes. I also learn a lot of my Daughters when I ask her the answers to all the silly questions. Its fun

Those are some great ideas!!! My husband put his foot down about the prize bags! He said "They are getting the bears...prize enough!" He grew up with VERY little and the excess that is expected around here is very disturbing to him...me too. He's right on that end!

I REALLY like the "cabbage roll" idea! I may do that for my step daughter and her friends. They'll enjoy that!

You are too sweet, but I am not that good YET! I will get there, but am nowhere close right now.

The machine is VERY easy. I had to buy a card reader ($170 when I got it ages ago) so that I could buy designs off of ebay or other sites. I think it is a good machine. I really love it. I have two other machines (and a serger that I have a love/hate relationship with). With the exception of the larger embroidery area, I wouldn't change a thing about it. Love, love, love it.

And you missed my post about practicing my eyebrow arch- I am working on it, but i know it isn't effective. Jackson said "why are you looking at me like that, Mom?" Yeah, no fear- YET!

Awww, you guys are making me feel so special!! I almost didn't post because they are boy clothes and not as cute as a lot of the girl things! I NEED to find a girl around here to sew for!! I have tried to talk a few friends into LETTING me make something for their kid, but no luck. UGH.

Anyway, the applique designs are from the site that must not be named. I ALWAYS get them from one great designer- PM me if you want her name. She has been AMAZING to work with. She has some really, really cute stuff too.

oh my goodness !! All your outfits are fabulous! Oh yes pm me with that name!
Lori

WOW!!!! You guys make such awesome stuff!!!!!!!!!!:worship: :worship:

Butterick also has a pattern for that shirt #3832. Buttericks are on sale 2/$3.00 this Thu/Fri/Sat at JoAnn's.

 My oldest turns 9 next month (I have a birthday first and I will be OLD ;) ). You need to update your signature.
Hey, our tickers look pretty similar!! How long are you staying?

That's right, you don't need to apologize for posting only when you have something new to share. We all understand how hard it is to keep up with this thread!

I love the Tink outfit and the shoes are FABULOUS!! Rosie O'Donnel was on Martha Stewart's show yesterday demonstrating how to make painted shoes like this!

I just have to say that I am growing more obsessed with this thread each day! :lmao: I don't have the opportunity to respond to each and every post, but there are so many talented people on this thread!

Since I have started reading this- within the last 2 weeks- I have purchased over 25 yards of fabric and many patterns off the you can make this site which I didn't even know existed until I read this thread!

The kicker is I don't even sew :rotfl2: But my mom does- I am sure she will be overjoyed with the amount of work I now have for her to do for our upcoming trip:rotfl2:

Anyway- just wanted to say how much I am enjoying all of these customs you all are creating!
:welcome:!!! How funny that you have 25 yars of fabric and don't sew! I think you need to learn! Maybe your mom could teach you! Make sure you share pictures of anything your mom makes with us!

I'm thinking since she wants to be a princess Goofy, maybe you could use a Cinderella pattern. You could make the main dress out of the goofy fabric and then make the things on the sides out of a coordinating fabric.

PS You see the Snow White costume my little one is wearing in my siggy? I made it!
We definitely need a bigger picture!

Of course my mother has to show her how it goes down under my panties.
You poor thing!! How embarassing!

I made this Enchanted top (not a dress) for a fellow Diser. She wanted a top instead of a dress so her daughter could wear it over leggins. I thought that was a pretty clever idea! I made up the pattern for this one too.

Deann, I sent you these pictures first, I hope you got them!

Arminda saw this, and thought I had made one for her, so I think I might have to make another one!
HELLO!! That is gorgeous!!!! I wasn't so sure about it when you said you made it shorter, like a shirt. But I LOOOOVE it!!!!! You are just amazing!!

Just stopping in to say hi! I am loving all the new customs. I am trying to at least lurk with you guys so that if we move I do not get to lost lol. We have been insanely busy. Our sibling group is going to grandma at the end of the month and our adoptive placements have been moved up to coming in May. Princess A is still with us and we pray everyday she stays. She quit breathing last week and DH and I preformed CPR on her. She spent last week in the hospital and thankfully is doing much better now. I never realized how fragile life truely is I do not think. I cannot wait life to slow down a bit so I can start sewing again!
Glad to get an update from you. How scary that Princess A stopped breathing!!! I'm glad she okay now!

Wow!! That is pretty! It's going to be fabulous when you're done!

I have a question about birthday parties...do the kids usually open the gifts at the parties your kids go to? Around here, it is customary to wait until everyone has left, and then to write thank you notes after the party....I like it, because there's no competiton about who gave what, and no embarrasment over "doubles".
I'd be dissapointed if I went to a party and the kid didn't open my gift. I just talk to Tessa before her party and make sure she knows that it will hurt people's feelings if she says she already has something or that she doesn't like it. So, she needs to say she likes it and tell them thank you. I would actually prefer that she didn't get a lot of presents. We once wrote on the invitation "no gifts, please." But, no one listened!

8 bids!!!! My very first time selling!
WOW! How exciting!

Jumping on the birthday party talk here. Heidi (DD6) is invited to a birthday party on the 19th. Ready for the time ... it's from 4:00 - 9:00 PM. 5 hours! And 9:00 at night? Isn't that a bit late for 5- and 6-year-olds? It's at the girl's house. They'll be doing makeovers on them. Am I the only one who finds this a bit strange?

I wanted to add that the girls in her Kindergarten class were invited. I think there are about 10 of them.
I find it pretty strange, too! The makeovers sound like fun, but a 5 hour party going until 9:00pm?

Just stunning Teresa!!
I think I like enchanted a little to much- is that possible? I mean I'm not going all Titanic about it but I just love that movie!!! Maybe it's the music?? (I have seen Titanic at least 30 times)
A fellow Titaniac!!! Did you see our previous posts? Sugarbees has a Heart of the Ocean tattoo!! I saw Titanic 11 times in the theater, most of them by myself! :rotfl: Teresa, Sugarbees, and I all have Rose dolls, too.

HELLO?? He's 15 yrs old...he probably thinks that princess is hot! Of course he would remember what she is wearing!! HAHAHAHAHA
Not MY sweet little baby nephew!! :snooty:

:lmao:

 WOW!! You've been busy! What a bunch of wonderful stuff!!! Your boys are going to be absolutely adorable! I'm sure they'll get lots of extra attention in these outfits!! I'm so glad you're going to use my applique tutorial!!!

I love how that turned out! Is that the Weeke pattern? The Farbenmix patterns that I ordered got lost in the mail, and it has been over a week and I am still waiting for it. The seller is trying to get USPS to track the package down!
Yes it is the Weeke pattern. And thank you again for the Pattern Ease otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do it. I hope they find your patterns. This wasn't very hard to do.

That is a great idea!!!!

Ok, I got about half of the pics for the shorts done, then my battery died, so I'll post what I have. I finished those shorts, but if people need more pics, I will show them on the next pair....
Thank you so much! I love picture tutorials! These look really easy to do! I also am very appreciative that you posted a picture of your bobkin with a pin attached. I have the same one. Teresa told me I could pin the wider elastic on. But, I had no idea what she meant until I saw your picture!

And you missed my post about practicing my eyebrow arch- I am working on it, but i know it isn't effective. Jackson said "why are you looking at me like that, Mom?" Yeah, no fear- YET!

I had a similar experience. I practiced the arch on my friend's kids and they just laughed. It could have something to do with the constipated look I have to get on my face in order to get my eyebrow to arch. :confused3

I have a bunch of fabric paint so I used that. I think regular acrylic paint would work, too, although I'd make sure to use the special medium for painting on fabric. I used a pencil to draw some of the bubbles and Tink then started painting. Some of the colors aren't as bright as I'd like but I think they are close enough to a match of the colors of the fabric.

Wow, I still love those shoes. The whole outfit is fantastic but the shoes put it over the top (in a good way!). I forgot that you started out painting on clothes, my painting would look like a 5 year old did it, and a not very talented 5 year old at that!

On the other end of the spectrum, I have had Chicken Pox TWICE. Once when I was about 9 and once in COLLEGE. Then when I got pregnant with Spencer, they tested my immunities, and i was NOT immune to CHicken Pox, adn had to have a booster!! :scared1:

It's genetic that my family doesn't hold onto Chicken pox immunity...my mother had it 5 times. :scared:

Five times! Yuck! That is some bad luck!

Oh, Teresa, I love this! It is perfect!

At the VERY END when they are dancing around the apartment, Giselle is wearing a simple yellow dress.

Okay, now I know which dress. Even if people don't recognize it from Enchanted it is still a pretty dress.

hi everyone,

its been so long since i have been able to hop on the net because we have had computer problems. i have not seen most of this thread yet, so nothing to comment on yet, but i am sure everything is fabulous! I have caught the last few pages through and noticed all the talk about petti's. Tahlia is turning 7 next month and she asked for a petti for her birthday, but because of the waits, and the prices, not to mention overseas shipping i thought it would be easiler to make my own! Here is what i have been working on, its not finished, still have 2/3 more to complete.
th_petti001.jpg
[/IMG]
it actually hasn't been to bad to make, although i dont have a ruffler yet so i have to do it all by hand:headache: ! Its pretty much like a twirl skirt but you add more layers as you go down. like i said its only 1/3 finished so the end product should be 3xtimes more 'puffy' than the pic.

melissa

jayden, tahlia, ash and blake

All of that hand ruffling takes some patience!

I just thought I'd let you all know that Target has princess sock in the dollar bins. It looked like they had Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella through a size 2-4 & Cinderella, Ariel, and Snow White from 2-4 to 6-8.

Also, a question.

I made dd4 a skirt for dd1's Mickey birthday party & now I'm not entirely sure what shirt to make to go with it. I was thinking a peasant top with Mickey on the front. I have enough plain white to make one, but I'm not sure how that would look. Would it be better to get white w/black polka dots for the shirt?

This is the skirt:

:lmao: Gotta keep practicing that eyebrow arch!!!! The secret is to get a look of steel in your eyes while you do it and remain very still. Let the arch do the talking for you! I'm telling y'all...it works!

thanks for the info on the brother machine!! I think I'm going to ask for one for my "half" birthday!

YES there is such a thing...

there is!

I SWEAR!

;)

I had a similar experience. I practiced the arch on my friend's kids and they just laughed. It could have something to do with the constipated look I have to get on my face in order to get my eyebrow to arch. :confused3

:rotfl2:
Okay you made me snort laugh and choke on my diet coke AND my dog barked at me b/c I scared him!

Who knew that having pretend measles and being banned from polite society would lead to such laughter?!

:cool1:

URRGGGG..having problems with the capris. I thought I was doing so well. Got the two pant legs attached front and back and them match them up at crotch and sewed it together. Then I look. One leg is both pattern #11 the only one is #10, which means one leg is wider than the other. So, I rip, rip, rip and sew, sew, sew. I think I got it right.. #11 is now with #10. Right? Wrong! Now the notches don't match up so I must be wrong again! I thought I was getting the hang of it. :confused3

On a brighter side, I did finish the top an I will post later. She is running around with it on, she says she has to wear it today, it is so pretty. I did bottonholes and buttons! Yah me!:cool1:

I think a plain white shirt with a mickey mouse on it would be really nice. Although, I enjoy simple boutique clothes. You may get other opinions. Also, I think it would allow the birthday girl to shine a little brighter :)

Around here, it is customary to wait until everyone has left, and then to write thank you notes after the party....I like it, because there's no competiton about who gave what, and no embarrasment over "doubles".

It depends around here. If the party is somewhere else (like a bounce house place, bowling alley, gymnastics, etc.) where there is a time limit they usually don't open the presents so the kids have more time to play. If it is at the child's home about half the time they open the presents and half the time they don't. Both of my girls will be having parties away from the house this year (their b-days fall about 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after the baby is due and I'm not having my house destroyed!) and since there is a time limit on the parties we will not be opening them with everyone around.

Jumping on the birthday party talk here. Heidi (DD6) is invited to a birthday party on the 19th. Ready for the time ... it's from 4:00 - 9:00 PM. 5 hours! And 9:00 at night? Wow, that does seem kind of late and even if it was earlier five hours seems like a lot to me! I wouldn't want to be the host's parents! Oh well, they did it to themselves!

Thanks for the heads up on the princess socks! Tessa loves those socks and she's outgrown all of her 2-4's (she's got little feet).

I LOVE the Mickey scaloppini!!! I think it would look cute with a white shirt. I'd try to put a ruffle or a ribbon on it somewhere with the black/white dot, just to tie it together.

:rotfl2:

Thanks guys! I was leaning towards the white, but I wasn't entirely sure since teh skirt is a bit dark. Heather, I think a bit of the black dots is perfect! Now I have a plan.

Another vote for a white shirt with some of the black and
white fabric. I LOVE that skirt. Where did the red fabric
come from?

sohappy--- I love, love, love  those patchwork shorts.
I am going to CASE those for my DD. Great job!

Lori

I don't mind the makeovers. Heidi can't wait for that! I just thought the length and lateness of it was a bit much for their age.
